  1. one question guys,

How effective is the technique of repeating the shabad in ur mouth without actually producing a sound, kind of a mental simran?

The reason I ask is that I dont seem to get any peace or rass from it. Either that or I guess I am covered in thick layers of filth which will take years to remove before I can see any effect.

and btw has anyone done kamai of this shabad " Gobinday Mukandey Udaare Apare Hariang Kariang Nirname Akaame"

Please share your experiences if any

  2. Lol, as per usual, his hypocrisy remains unaddressed.

Funny how you read and worshipped Charitropakhyan for sexual entertainment, where as Sikhs (those who read it - which are a tiny % of the population may I add) read the large part of it as a means of wordly education and focused on the moral/objective/warnings of the story rather than the details.

    How people differ...

    SOLID ARGUMENT!!

  3. Tony jee has made good very valid point here. In 1965, when it was very likely that the Pakistanis were going to win, the Indian government had ordered the Indian army to abandon Punjab to the Pakistanis and move all the way back to Ambala. If that had happened, then it is very likely that no Sikh girl would have remained a virgin as mentioned by the great author of Saachi Saakhi. It was only because of brave men like Harbaksh Singh that the Sikhs in the Indian military refused to listen to the Hindu mantrees and generals way back in Delhi to abandon Punjab. Sikhs beat the Pakistanis which was at the time unthinkable. We CANNOT rely on anyone else for our protection.

Sikh need to look out for their own interests, because if we don't NO ONE ELSE will.

    I SECOND THAT!

  4. http://www.sivanandaonline.org/graphics/sa...meditation.html

    (i) Jerks : Beginners will get jerks in meditation. Meditation brings on changes in the cells of the brain, nerves, etc. Old cells are replaced by new vigorous cells filled with sattva. New nerve currents are formed now owing to the purification of the nadis (tubular astral vessels of the body) resulting from sadhana. New grooves, new channels for sattvic thought-currents are formed. The jerks pass off after some time. Sometimes there is tremor of the body during meditation. When you get these experiences you are progressing. Plod on. Persevere.

  5. What kind of movements ? Physical controlled movement or just involuntary movement.

Controlled movements can be explained when you are breathing in /out really fast , your body moves rhythmically along with it .

But about the involuntary movement I have no idea, I have also some people who lose control of their body when they are doing simran/japping naam.

A perfectly simple question hijacked to bring out vishe vikaar sad

  6. There is a story of Baba Nand SIngh Jin of Nanaksar In 'Anand Chamatkar'.

During evening kirtan program one of the ragi was singing in pure classical style raga. After a short while BabaJi stopped him and told him to sing in 'siddiyan dharna' because they could SEE the Raags and Raagnian dancing in front of them. Henceforth, generally, the first shabad is sung in raga and the rest of the program in 'siddiyan dharna'. It was probs down to the excellence of the ragis performance in classical style.

It could be a metaphorical statement.

But I also think such things like Raag/Raagnian can take form in the presence of a powerful Sage.

Just like ridhian/sidhian can appear as girls/humans , it is possible for rag/ragnian too.

There is an incident when Baba Nand Singh ji changed Baba Ishar Singh ji's previous name "Inder" to "Isher Singh".

Because everytime Baba Nand Singh ji said Inder, Inder devta would come and stand in his presence.

So I guess in the courts of powerful Sages anything is possible.

But it could be a metaphorical/symbolic statement too. Maybe the raagis were too egoistic and Baba ji wanted to teach them something.

  7. Thanks for the comments, I have been trying to write caligraphy on and off for about 2 years, but im still trying to perfect Mool Mantar. This thread encouraged me to start practising again.

I find making a stencil easier when you write up, take a peice of lined A4 paper and using a felt pen darken the lines and put that under the paper you write on, so you dont have to mess around with drawing lines and rubbing them out with an eraser.

I am sure that you know that writing Gurbani with prem is also a form of Devotion. So if you keep practising not only you will improve your calligraphy skills but also utilize your time immersing yourself in the Moolmantra. So keep it up :D

  8. Thanks everyone! I really appreciate it!

You've hit bullseye Nanaki ji! We need Sikh superheroes like Batman and superman, only then our youth will see themselves and won't feel bad for wearing a patka or dastaar. They will have something that they can relate to.

BTW Our history has already been sugared up and it told like a fairy tale. So why not keep history real and create fantasy characters instead?

I made a topic about that on: http://www.sikhism.us/sikh-youth/22784-no-...y-not-what.html

History can be taught using a "Sikh Batman"! Let me reproduce something from that topic:

"In my honest opinion, I think our youth will benefit from having these Sikh Superheroes, as these heroes will constantly remind our youth of Sikh heritage.

It is possible for one to teach history through fiction, when pulled off correctly.

For example, I have been working on this character called "Sarbloh". His powers are similar to those of Colossus from X-MEN.

But by placing him in the time period of Anti-Sikh riots, I will be able to teach the reader about them (or least give the Sikh side of story). By putting him in the period of the terrorist attacks on the twin towers (where he helps rush people out of the building but then fails to make it out in time and gets crushed under the weight of the tower), I am ablw to show Sikhs in positive light. This at the same time reminds us of that event(s) which left a deep scar on our history. Since, the character was born just before 1984, I cannot show World War 1 and 2, using him but I have another character who has been through the 2 World Wars, and using flashbacks I can teach the reader about Sikhs in World Wars. It's like hitting two targets with one arrow."

    Fateh!

    Bhagat Singh

Keep up the great work Bhagat Singh Veer.

I am pretty sure that no one can beat the heroes that Sikhi has produced who sacrificed themselves for selfless and righteous causes.

Little kids cannot digest the heavy knowledge of Sikhi right away. Cartoon can be a great way of teaching them about our history. There is no way kids can stop watching TV at an early stage , if they are exposed to positive images this will have a greater effect on their life later on.

I can bet if a well executed movie was created about the wars and events in Sikh history , it can surely beat the likes of fairy tales such as Lord of the rings.

  9. I think unless you are a very powerful brahamgyani pooran Sant you should never give such an advise to a person in front of the sangat , this can be really humiliating or embarrasing for the person in front of everyone.

Basically what happened was that the guy was under immense pressure at that moment, and he could have agreed to anything on the stage lol

I think before organizing an event he will think about it twice.

  10. Shaheediyan, we all agree that Madho Das was a fanatical vegatarian. Then that begs the question of why would Madho Das have Bakre in his Dera? What purpose could Bakre serve in Madho Das's dera? could it be that the whole "Bakras being Chakta'ed at Madho Das's dera" is simply made up story by our historians long ago?

    Thats a good question.

Unless he had Bakris to drink milk and he needed bakras for reproductive purposes.
