  1. Nice to hear both prespectives. Oh and just to clear this up, I have nothing against gays.. I do have a gay friend, and he is a very nice and funny person..lol..and princess you are right we will go back and forth in circles, this is why I'm not arguing my point further (that and I could just as easily be wrong)...lol.
  2. If they are guilty, they get what they deserve.
  3. Actually my entire reason for posting what I did was so we could discuss it, and in doing so perhaps learn more about the topic and why we think the way we do (Socratic way of learning, since we are going on about the Greeks, lol). I have been reading all of the replies and have been taking them in. I posted my opinion and want to see what others think to gain another prespective. I'm not going to argue my initial post because doing so would be ignorant and a waste on my part, plus I'm not an expert on this..just posted and now waiting to read other opinions...so I don't think I'm sticking to my guns...lol
  4. I just thought this might be something to address, as it seems to have become a trend here in America. Every city seems to be changing its policies. I just wanted to know what you all think about this. I first of all will say that I disagree. I know gay people, and have nothing against them, but I do not approve of them being wed. Firstly I will say that god created man and woman for a reason....I mean the entire concept of human society has been based on our social relations especially with our significant other, i.e. reproduction. Secondly the gays are asking to be allowed to adopt children...again I disagree because a child needs the love of a mother and a father (A child needs both halves to understand how society operates. Such families also provide a more stable environment for the children). Now, I'm not a psychologist, but I am aware of studies that relate the importance of mother and father in how children turn out: are they more likely to commit crimes, be less ethical etc.. However, I will say that I respect others right to do what they feel is right. I just do not agree with them having to get "married." Keep your affair private,, as already stated this will change the face of society. This brings to mind another question..how come that animals tend not to display homosexual tendencies? Just thinking about this makes me feel that this whole concept is against the laws of nature. Sorry about the spiel, eagerly awaiting your comments.
  5. i think it is crap. I don't believe in any of this other stuff, not in voodo, not in ghosts, none of that. Only in god.
  6. very interesting...I was actually thinking about similarities between Buddhism and Sikhism in my world myth class, so its very interesting to read this article.
  7. extremely, I thought it was a bit much added for that hollywood touch.
  8. Yes, I actually saw this movie tonight..and while I would agree in saying that the movie was well done, I would like to say the movie was extremely graphic. A lot of the gore was unnecessary, the idea should have been to his message across, but he just shows long scenes of violence to win over people's emotions, I think the ideals of Jesus could have been better represented. Also, I would like to say that I think it was disrespectful to actual cast a Jesus. I just feel that an actor should not portray Jesus, as I just find that very disrespectful. Example: How would you feel about a Sikh movie where someone is cast as a Guru... Honor the memory, but casting an actor for such a great man is just plain disrespectful because he can never live up to it (thus in the end it will only make a mockery of the real thing). Just my opinion.
  9. I don't quite understand your post.. Do you not see the difference between worship and respect. And the pictures I have of the guru's are treated no differently than any other pictures/posters...I don't consider them holy, and I never will...so I don't understand when you say "if u all dont wana share that point and just keep on worshioing the pictures then i cant say anything" Please elucidate for me.
  10. Um..I know this may be a little late, but I didn't see this in anyones posts in response to what Masti wrote. God is not a person, I think that needs to be cleared up...the concept of god's wife is absurd, because you are thinking of god as a person. Also I didn't think Sikhism encouraged asceticism as a way of salvation; it actually advocates living harmoniously in society and helping the less fortunate. I know Masti is banned just felt that anyone reading through this might want to see more sides to it..(correct me if I'm wrong) Also I felt Masti was using looking at Sikhism from a western standpoint. Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but the guru's didn't have knowledge of Christianity did they? Cause Sikhism is an eastern religion, with views different from the western religions (I know Islam is an exception).
  11. Yeah, I agree with everyone else here. There is a difference between worship and respect. I have pictures of the Gurus, but I don't worship them.
  12. hehe, don't worry mr. greycells, you're not the only one...I'm the terrible at dancing period, lol
  13. i think we should not be so hasty to judge...about them being weak..unless you know the entire situation it is not true, atleast as sikhs, don't waste time judging each other. Lend your support, I think that is exactly what the problem is, everyone is all to ready to judge, and not willing to listen, I mean thats why we are teased in the first place is it not? So why do you want to be like that? Spend less time worrying how others uphold sikhi, and more time about how you do..just lend them your support and they will find the right way on their own.
  14. i don't know about you all, but all those sports drinks taste slightly salty to me, anyhoo..I just drink water..lol
  15. yeah...was actually a good game, maybe people should be paying more attention to the game and not the half time show..lol
  16. how bout ya'll just call your selves sikhs, and take Singh or Kaur...makes it easier don't you think?
  17. um..back in high school, being the only sikh in a school of 3,000 predominently white kids (99%) wasn't the easiest thing, but most of em were cool..but yeah i've experienced my fair share of being "ragged" on but rarely in school, usually get this shit at places like the mall (not that it happens very often, i'm kind of a big guy, so most people don't say anything).
  18. This sounds interesting, but what about the addictive properties of these drugs? I mean you say they are O.K. when taken in moderation, but if you become addicted then moderation is out the window. Just thought I'd throw this into the mix for your views on it.
  19. 87.4 years, the lowest number yet, lol.
  20. yeah, so the kirpan takes on a symbolic role? I guess that is true already, very few people carry around kirpans anymore due to the circumstances of the world now...thanks for the reply though.
  21. lol, bruce lee was awesome man..makes me wanna play tekken with law, lol
  22. haha, yeah, I thought that was really stupid...the whole love story they through in there, but i really liked the movie. This kinda brings up a question for me...you know that the samurai were all traditional and preferred using swords to guns, but what about Sikhsim? I mean Kirpan is one of the five K's, but is it understood that that now means gun, as that is the weapon nowadays?
