  4. yeah good article man, but i always thought the number of people killed during operation bluestar was much higer, like in the hundreds of thousands, could someone please clarify that for me (We had SMART visit our university, and they did a presentation on this, and they said that bodies from the Golden temple were being loaded into trucks and taken to mass cremations, also they said 37 gurudwaras were attacked). I have always been confused on this, so i would greatly appreciate anyone's help. Thanks in advance.
  5. This last story was really good JOYce, especially since i can relate to that...darn colleges, lol.
  6. this is off topic, sorry, but KS, you from NJ too? thats sweet man, me too..
  7. Firstly I would like to say that I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as a lot of the people on this board about sikhi, but I would like to point out that I don't think the guru's ever wanted people arguing over such trivial things as being vege or not...there is much more in sikhi to devote your time to..also I believe there was a quote along the lines of "what is meat, and what is not meat?" not sure of the source right now, but just thought i'd mention it.
  8. Hey, I joined this site a while back also, but haven't been back much, so i guess i'll introduce myself then. Um..let's see i'm 17 livin' in NJ, US, am gursikh, i love cars, weightlifting, and sikhism (even though this should be implied by the very fact that i'm posting here, hehe)...anyhoo I'm a first year Finance major.
  9. tru dat bro...never take shit from anyone...sorry bout the language, but this type of stuff really aggravates me. I go to a highschool with 99% of whom are white. I'm da only sikh guy, and no one messes with me. Probably cause i don't let them. I could care less bout there "crews", I mean i stand up for myself and dey know that. If anyone tried to mess with me, I don't care how many friends you got, you gonna get it...that and i got friends too, so yeah, never take crap from anyone, in my view its better to go down fighting than by just doing nothing.
  10. i don't know if its part of my heitage, we are sikhs, universal brother hood, and we are all singhs and kaurs...My parents and my uncles all got rid of our "last names". There was no heritage in that, just restrictive lableing that is against sikhism. Just my views on the matter.
  11. to MI, on the language issue, stop paying so much attention to the language. No one is perfect, and let people do as they wish. We are punjabi so english isn't even part of our culture, so we should all speak punjabi instead, oh but wait the current punjabi is so heavily influenced by hindi that it is no longer the same..SGGS is not written in the "modern punjabi". All I'm trying to say is that don't concentrate so much on the language rather the SGGS and it's message. Nothing else matters if you love god, god is not quite so judgemental.
  12. so AWESOME, cool @ the dude that lived 15 mins away...I lived 5 hours away..
  13. i agree that people need to be educated bout sikhi, but i don't like the term missionary, cause in sikhism you do not go around trying to convert people, it's about their choice. You may present them with the facts, but do not try to get anyone to convert as that is agains sikhism. I suggest you all try to use a different word because missionarys went around trying to convert everyone to christianity. We are sikhs not christians, we do not need to go around and try to convince people to follow us, just get information out there, just the facts, no subjectivity.
  14. I must say that the soul is everlasting while the body is not, so even if a clone is made then it will have a soul because the body is just a carrier. And I agree that cloning should be ok because god created everything including humans knowing what we would be capable of, god would most likely not have given us such options if god was adamantly opposed to such things, and I also believe in the theory of evolution as from a scientific stand point it is quite diffuclt to ignore (I feel that god created life to be an ever chaning, ever adapting concept, and that we humans are not all that are dear to god, life in general is). Please correct me if my views are wrong, as I do not want a false perception of the beliefs of sikhism.
  15. Well, I'm clearly not as informed as the rest, but from what i was taught, I grew up not believeing in anything but god..sure as a kid i may have been scared of monsters and such, but they aren't real. I was taught that only god is real, and that bhoot, black magic, etc... don't exist. I know sikhism does not believe in superstitions, and this to be seems like a superstition.
  16. Thanks for the warm reply, oh and I usually joke around like that when I talk (which is quite often so it may give people the wrong idea)...I'm not a thug, hehe, just thought you all should know.
