These lower caste men have to be at the beck and call of their masters and they cannot leave their work. As per a survey in the state there are more that 5 lakh tenant farmers in Punjab who are compelled to live like a bond slave. Jai Singh Pillaur the president of the “Dalit Dadta Virodhi Andolan†represented this sensational report. The report said Most of these men work on the lands owned by Jat Sikhs, who comprise the landed and political gentry of the state and own the majority of the land, He added. Life has changed little for these landless labourers, even though the green revolution catapulted in Punjab the rich state in the country. Cast plays key role in their plight and they are living under the mercy of their masters while Punjab is known as a land filled with prosperity and happiness, but life seems to be a dark for them, who are completely hopeless. These families are also facing the problems of the basic needs like toilets and shelter. These unfortunate people are looking for the shadows in this land of five rivers.
