It is no mystery that Sardar Jassa Singh Aluvalia - the great Jarnail of the Khalsa Panth used to incite Akaal Purkh Ki Fauj into a state of supreme hope and defiance against any odds by reciting Aasa Ki Vaar every morning. It would be impossible to find a better explanation of what Raag/Rang Aasa, this shabd is an absolute embodiment of Aasa - if you are lucky enough to find a rendition in the said raag, kindly bless us with it: ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ आसा महला ५ ॥ Āsā mėhlā 5. Aasaa, Fifth Mehl: ਵੰਞੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਲਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ॥ वंञु मेरे आलसा हरि पासि बेनंती ॥ vañ mere ālsā har pās benanṯī. Be gone, O my laziness, that I may pray to the Lord. ਰਾਵਉ ਸਹੁ ਆਪਨੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੋਹੰਤੀ ॥ रावउ सहु आपनड़ा प्रभ संगि सोहंती ॥ Rāva▫o saho āpnaṛā parabẖ sang sohanṯī. I enjoy my Husband Lord, and look beautiful with my God. ਸੰਗੇ ਸੋਹੰਤੀ ਕੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣੀ ਰਾਵੀਐ ॥ संगे सोहंती कंत सुआमी दिनसु रैणी रावीऐ ॥ Sange sohanṯī kanṯ su▫āmī ḏinas raiṇī rāvī▫ai. I look beautiful in the Company of my Husband Lord; I enjoy my Lord Master day and night. ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਚਿਤਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੀਐ ॥ सासि सासि चितारि जीवा प्रभु पेखि हरि गुण गावीऐ ॥ Sās sās cẖiṯār jīvā parabẖ pekẖ har guṇ gāvī▫ai. I live by remembering God with each and every breath, beholding the Lord, and singing His Glorious Praises. ਬਿਰਹਾ ਲਜਾਇਆ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਮਿਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਿੰਚੰਤੀ ॥ बिरहा लजाइआ दरसु पाइआ अमिउ द्रिसटि सिंचंती ॥ Birhā lajā▫i▫ā ḏaras pā▫i▫ā ami▫o ḏarisat siʼncẖanṯī. The pain of separation has grown shy, for I have obtained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; His Ambrosial Glance of Grace has filled me with bliss. ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਖੋਜੰਤੀ ॥੧॥ बिनवंति नानकु मेरी इछ पुंनी मिले जिसु खोजंती ॥१॥ Binvanṯ Nānak merī icẖẖ punnī mile jis kẖojanṯī. ||1|| Prays Nanak, my desires are fulfilled; I have met the One I was seeking. ||1|| ਨਸਿ ਵੰਞਹੁ ਕਿਲਵਿਖਹੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ नसि वंञहु किलविखहु करता घरि आइआ ॥ Nas vañahu kilvikẖahu karṯā gẖar ā▫i▫ā. The demons within me have been burnt; the Lord of the Universe has revealed Himself to me. ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਲਾਲਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥ प्रगटे गुपाल गोबिंद लालन साधसंगि वखाणिआ ॥ Pargate gupāl gobinḏ lālan sāḏẖsang vakẖāṇi▫ā. The Beloved Lord of the Universe, the Lord of the World has revealed Himself; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I chant His Name. ਆਚਰਜੁ ਡੀਠਾ ਅਮਿਉ ਵੂਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥ आचरजु डीठा अमिउ वूठा गुर प्रसादी जाणिआ ॥ Ācẖaraj dīṯẖā ami▫o vūṯẖā gur parsādī jāṇi▫ā. I have seen the Wondrous Lord; He showers His Ambrosial Nectar upon me, and by Guru's Grace, I know Him. ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਨਹ ਅੰਤੁ ਜਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ मनि सांति आई वजी वधाई नह अंतु जाई पाइआ ॥ Man sāʼnṯ ā▫ī vajī vaḏẖā▫ī nah anṯ jā▫ī pā▫i▫ā. My mind is at peace, resounding with the music of bliss; the Lord's limits cannot be found. ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਿ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ बिनवंति नानक सुख सहजि मेला प्रभू आपि बणाइआ ॥२॥ Binvanṯ Nānak sukẖ sahj melā parabẖū āp baṇā▫i▫ā. ||2|| Prays Nanak, God brings us to union with Himself, in the poise of celestial peace. ||2|| ਨਰਕ ਨ ਡੀਠੜਿਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥ नरक न डीठड़िआ सिमरत नाराइण ॥ Narak na dīṯẖ▫ṛi▫ā simraṯ nārā▫iṇ. They do not have to see hell, if they remember the Lord in meditation. ਜੈ ਜੈ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਦੂਤ ਭਏ ਪਲਾਇਣ ॥ जै जै धरमु करे दूत भए पलाइण ॥ Jai jai ḏẖaram kare ḏūṯ bẖa▫e palā▫iṇ. The Righteous Judge of Dharma applauds them, and the Messenger of Death runs away from them. ਧਰਮ ਧੀਰਜ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੇ ॥ धरम धीरज सहज सुखीए साधसंगति हरि भजे ॥ Ḏẖaram ḏẖīraj sahj sukẖī▫e sāḏẖsangaṯ har bẖaje. Dharmic faith, patience, peace and poise are obtained by vibrating upon the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ਕਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਭ ਤਜੇ ॥ करि अनुग्रहु राखि लीने मोह ममता सभ तजे ॥ Kar anūgrahu rākẖ līne moh mamṯā sabẖ ṯaje. Showering His Blessings, He saves those who renounce all attachments and egotism. ਗਹਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਏ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਪਤ ਅਘਾਇਣ ॥ गहि कंठि लाए गुरि मिलाए गोविंद जपत अघाइण ॥ Gėh kanṯẖ lā▫e gur milā▫e govinḏ japaṯ agẖā▫iṇ.
