Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

Some of the sharda pooran paaths I have come across ask one to do the sadhanas near a well or river. Anyone know why this is? Is this something that can be overcome, perhaps by having a pot of spring water next to you in your room? Would one drink the water afterwards?
