Bridegroom in Punjab village arrived for marriage in helicopter

FATEHGARH SAHIB: It was not only a marriage with difference but also a glorious tribute to all the girls born in district Fatehgarh Sahib, among the top in country for high female foeticide when a bridegroom from district Ludhiana arrived at village Dholewal near here in a helicopter and the couple after marriage ceremony flew home in the chopper.

The whole village assembled in the fields this morning when a helicopter landed at specially erected helipad carrying bride groom from village Gidri near Doraha. The police had made special security arrangements for the event.

Bridegroom arrived in the Chooper

The helicopter hired by family of bridegroom reached the destination in 20 minutes time while the other members of marriage party arrived in cars after over one and half hour. The bridgroom Navdeep Singh kept sitting in the chopper untill rest of the marriage party reached there.

The crew of media organisations also reached there to cover the marriage and surrounded the bridegroom when he stepped down from the helicopter. Navdeep said that some of his family members live in USA but he never went abroad. "It was my first flying experience", he said. He added that he just wanted to do something different.

Navdeep has married Manpreet Kaur(24) who had migrated to USA after doing Nursing course. She belongs to an agriculture family of the village.

Rajvir Singh father of the girl said that the bridgroom had not demanded any dowry but wanted a royal reception for the marriage party. We have performed marriage at newly constructed bunglow spread over one acre land.

One of Manpreet's uncle is living in USA for the last 18 years but he couldn't arrive to attend the marriage, the family members said. Rajvir Singh owns about 25 acres of land.

K.K. Singh pilot of the helocopter said that family hired the chiopper from monarch company but he was not aware of its rent. He said that he also came to Punjab for the first time. He had earlier also carried about 7-8 marriage parties in other states.

Jagrup Singh brother of bride said that they were trying for the last two weeks to get permission for landing of helicopter and finally permission was granted two days back. He said that it was first such marriage in the whole district and perhaps also in the state.
