Sikh jatha denied permission to visit Pak

Amritsar, February 16

The Pakistan government has denied permission to a Sikh jatha, which was to visit there to observe ‘Saka Nankana Sahib’ on February 21.

In a statement released today, SGPC chief Avtar Singh apologised to the members of the jatha and said they would be accorded priority in the jatha that would visit Gurdwara Panja Sahib at Hasan Abdal, Pakistan, to celebrate Baisakhi in April. A SGPC spokesman said the jatha was to leave for Pakistan from Amritsar tomorrow, but the Pakistan has denied permission at the eleventh hour without giving any reason. — TNS
