FATEHGARH SAHIB: Dr Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia, the founding Vice-chancellor of SGPC owned Shri Guru Granth Sahib World University was shot in his head at around

3:30 pm on Monday by an unidentified person. He was taken to the PGI

Chandigarh immediately.

No further information about the status of his health could be available as yet. According to sources, the shooter was in flowing beard and was wearing blue turban. On getting information about the incidence, Deputy Commissioner Fatehgarh Sahib Yashvir Mahajan, SSP Fatehgarh Sahib Ranbir Singh Khattra and MLA Sirhind Didar Singh Bhatti rushed in to the University campus.

The turban of Ahluwalia filled with blood, his spectacles and pen were seen lying on the spot. There was a great deal of panic in the surrounding area as the news spread. The University has been sealed by the Police and the security arrangements in the town have also been tightened. The University was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and SGPC Chief Avtar Singh on 25th July. It may be recalled that the radical and hardcore Sikh organizations were against the appointment of Ahluwalia as VC of the University and have continuously been opposing the appointment since it was made.

The Fatehgarh Sahib police has registered a case against unidentified persons.
