BARNALA, Punjab (September 11, 2014)—Vikram Dhanaula, alias Babbi, who hurled a shoe at Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Badal at a function in Khanna on August 15, has announced to become Amritdhari Sikh. Vikram shared his plans while talking to selected media persons after returning home from jail.

Vikram said that he would visit Sri Akal Takht Sahib to take Amrit in order to turn as a “true Sikh”. Notably, he was wearing a small turban when he addressed the media persons. Bhai Mahinderpal Singh Dangarh and Harwinder Singh who are co-accused in shoe-hurling case, also accompanied him. All three were granted bail by a Ludhiana court yesterday. They reached Dhanaula village at about 11 pm last night after being released from the jail.

“I have been working as a volunteer of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) since December 2013 but neither AAP nor any other party has come to my help”, he said. He was all praise for Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira and advocate Rajdev Singh Khalsa, former MP, for raising voice in his favor.

Vikram, who is unemployed, said he had thrown a shoe at the Chief Minister as he was disappointed with the state of affairs, and felt that Punjabi youth had no bright future. He ruled out the allegation that he had torn the uniform of a policeman.

He said his wife taught at a private school as a science teacher but she too was dismissed after his arrest. He added that he had not quit AAP, and would remain firm follower of Arvind Kejriwal as long as he stands by his principles.
