1. Disengage yourself from your thoughts to the point where you can witness your thoughts flowing like clouds flowing and you are sky which is witness of them without any concerns, judgements, without any analyzation, clinging to them- you are witness awareness behind the thoughts. Thoughts cannot rise without awareness. Be the awareness behind thoughts and emotions. (If you are very beginner, practise this for few weeks/months in your spare time for atleast half hour).

2. Then try to be aware of the Seer who sees (If conditioned mind keep answering as I - as in person , then you have to keep trying until you get spontaneous intuitive answer reveal to you), there will be loads of divine insights-gurbani tuks or divine revelation without any words in this state

3. Once you are fairly established in awareness of seer (one who's cognizing the whole experience), you will spontaneously realize there are times during meditation thoughts will collapse-cease to exist, leaving you alone with awareness only- awareness by itself without any object is self aware, there is only just pure awareness of awareness in this state which is beyond description, at this point witness role collapses into totality-undivided awareness in which whatever is perceived is not subject/object its just pure undivided awareness/knowledge/gyan(itself)-JOT-light -knowledge not person or being but pure awareness/knowledge itself -all in one/one in all, we call it Jagad JOT- Awake undivided JOT (Awareness Being Knowledge), buddhist call it satori etc, all kinds of names.

Achal Morat Anubhav Parkash Amitooj Khiijaie || (Achal Morat -Pure unconditioned thoughtless awareness -Anubhav Parkash - Intuitive spontaneous infinite ocean of divine knowledge- Bhramgyan Amitoj Khijaie - All effulgence, non-descript Ocean)

This is where one all the effort ends, after above state grace(Gurparsad) is required for spontaneous revelation, no effort can reach there beyond this no matter how hard you try to break conditioning patterns be awareness etc etc.

One may have revelation of their real self- of Satori/Jagad Jot (Undivided Pure Awareness being spontaneous intuitive ocean of knowledge) for second, minute, weeks, days , month. whatever the case may be- its truth of eternity but abiding in the truth by effort its not up to us or matter of our effort as no effort can reach there, for some very rare lucky (one in million spiritual seekers)- abidance in this natural spontaneous sehaj avastha it will be all the away full gurparsad for forever at this point but for some, natural spontaneous sehaj avastha in this truth-(Jagad Jot-real self-atma) will be very in and out until full gurparsad.

ਪੂਰਨ ਜੋਤ ਜਗੈ ਘਟ ਮੈ ਤਬ ਖਾਲਸ ਤਾਹਿ ਨਖਾਲਸ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
ਜਾਗਿਤ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਪੈ ਨਿਸ ਬਾਸ੝ਰ ਝਕ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨ ਨੈਕ ਨ ਆਨੈ ॥
ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੝ਰੇਮ ਪ੝ਰਤੀਤ ਸਜੈ ਬ੝ਰਤ ਗੋਰ ਮੜ੝ਹੀ ਮਟ ਭੂਲ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
ਤੀਰਥ ਦਾਨ ਦਯਾ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਝਕ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹਿ ਝਕ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
pooran joth jagai ghatt mai thab khalas thahi nakhalas janai.
jagith joth japai nis basur eaek bina man naik n anai.
pooran praem pratheeth sajai brath gor marrhee matt bhool n manai.
theerathh dhan dhaya thap sanjam eaek bina nehi eaek pashhanai.
Such a man, in whose heart shines the full Divinely Radiant Light is a true a pure Khalsa.
He the Khalsa meditates on the Ever-radiant Light, day and night, and rejects all else but the one Lord from the mind.
He decorates himself with perfect love and faith, and believed not in fasts, tombs, crematoriums and hermit cells, even by mistake.
He knows none except the one Lord in the performance of acts of pilgrimage, charities, compassion, austerities and self-control.

This may help further:


Everyone(even sinners of highest calibre) is born with pure portion of mind ( source of mind which is right at the starting edge of mind) which we sikhs call it surat/bibek/brahmakar unconditioned birthi- intuitive unconditioned consciousness/pure cognitive perception. So divide your mind into two-
-diseased mind which is affected by five vices, depression, stress, anxiety, emotional negative suicidal thoughts
-pure portion of mind-intuitive unconditioned consciousness/pure cognitive perception mind
What we often do is we try to combat diseased conditioned mind with diseased conditioned mind which may only provided band aids fixes but it does not look at the root, that's why many psychologist fail to address the root cause, they provide solution to fix one problem but inadvertently create other problems as well-such as more conditioning, dependency on medication etc.
So With pure portion of mind start a first phase journey which is simply witnessing the thoughts come in, let whatever thoughts (no matter how hideous) come in and whatever thought go -go..don't judge or analyze the thoughts, just simple witness as pure witness, it will take some practice so to make it easier..here are some analogies it help further or visualize:
-Witness the thoughts visualize-thoughts being clouds-appearing/disappearing on its own accord , it does not matter to you because you are the sky which has pure vantage view (pure unconditioned intuitive cognitive consciousness-achal thoughtless surat) in which thoughts come in and out as clouds, you have pure vantage to witness your thoughts not matter how big and scary clouds are, it cannot touch you as you can always see them below, they are below you.
- Imagine you are in the middle of road- each thought is car trying to hit you, drag you with it. Imagine how painful it is being hit by each car (thought) which is dragging you all the way, what you do ? do you fight with a speedy car coming at you? No..you simply get on a side of road, move away and witness the thoughts(in form of car) travelling in and out of road-your view and ultimately ignore them by abiding in your consciousness(surat)...after a while car-lethal weapon (thoughts) will loose its influence on you as you will start witnessing them and not getting hit by them and eventually you will also transcendent witness stage as well in straight in abidance in already available inner state we all have already in our pure universal portion of mind which is achal moraat (pure motionless stillness-afor-thoughtless awareness) universal being at the point Guru's kirpa will unfold itself and guide you further.
Anyway, our main focus should be to disidentify with our thoughts, but since you are at it, you might as well try to understand thoughts structure how transient they are and illusory they are, disidentify with them all together with pure universal portion of mind (pure unconditioned intuitive cognitive consciousness), and don't worry about right actions and rights speech, trying to figure how to do naam jaap since everything comes from there, this unconditioned pure intuitive cognitive consciousness will guide you further how to do naam jaap, gurbani patt, right speech, right actions very naturally and spontaneously.
