HELP NEEDED: Shabd Hazare

Recommended Posts

Gur Fateh!

The Shabd Hazare is a compilation attributed to Bhai Mani Singh, beginning with the Shabds (formed from the letters of Guru Arjan Dev Jee to Guru Ram Das Jee) enshrined in Guru Granth Sahib on page 96-97.

As we know, these letters were written by Arjan Dev Ji, and were addressed to Guru Ram Das Ji, but 3 of these were intercepted before reaching him. Arjan Dev Ji wrote the 4th at the command of Guru Ram Das Ji after returning from Lahore...as such, the first 3 letters express anguish at being separated the Guru, and the fourth, joy at being re-united with the Guru.

Following this shabd, follows a series of Sahbds by Guru Nanak, of which very little is mentioned when reading articles concerning the Shabd Hazare. We know that Bhai Mani Singh after the demise of Guru Gobind Singh ji compiled the Dasam Granth and also the Panj Granthi and also compiled the Baee Vaaran (22 Vars).

Does anyone know further information on the formation of the Shabd Hazare collection, its history, structural forms (the of the Raags is quite interesting, something I looked into and will write more about shortly), importance, vichaar/viakhiya or is it simply as some suggest a convenient title to help learn Gurbani?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Gur Fateh!
