Remembrance 2

To mark the contribution and sacrifice of Soldiers from Undivided India in both World Wars , this Remembrance Weekend, here is a film.

The film, from The Ananda Kentish Coomaraswamy Collection (Art Historian and Curator,Boston Museum of Fine Arts USA) was filmed around 1920 and shows Sikh Muslim and Hindu soldiers in India, tying turbans, a Sikh soldier tying his hair and another throwing a 'Chakar'.

It is a fascinating little film - It's title is " A Good Sikh Never Cuts His Hair" (note: it is a silent film)

The Inscription reads ;

"To the memory of all Indian soldiers who gave their lives for their King-Emperor in the Great War, this monument, erected on the site of the funeral pyre where the Hindus and Sikhs who died in hospital at Brighton passed through the fire, is in grateful admiration and brotherly affection dedicated".
