  4. Dying to the Shabad Tulsee Das was a Saint. When he was young he was devoted to reaching God and he struggled slowly on this path. When he got married he was head over heels in love with his beautiful wife, she became the sole reason for his living, everything he did was to please her. One day he surprised her with a gift - she was overwhelmed by his love and said, 'If you were devoted to God half as much as you are to me, I'm sure you would have reached God by now.' The words struck Tulsee Das to the core and his earlier life of devotion came flooding back to his mind, from that day on God became his sole focus once again. Many years later when Tulsee Das was old and wise and respected by all in the village as a saint, a Brahmin priest came to him. He said to Tulsee Das, 'All my life I've preached and read the scriptures, but I haven't met my Beloved Ram. Tell me what I should do?'. Tulsee Das said, 'It's very simple, all you have to do is climb that tall tree and jump off the branch with full faith that Ram will catch you.' The Brahmin was inspired and climbed the tree, he sat on the branch and looked down at the hard ground below. No matter how hard he tried he couldn't make the leap. Many hours passed and the Village HeadMan (SarPanch) walked by with a bag of money. Noticing the Brahmin he enquired as to what he was doing. The Brahmin explained that Tulsee Das had said that by jumping off the tree Ram would catch him. The SarPanch who wasn't a religious man quickly said, 'O Brahmin, if you like you may have this bag of money, but give me Tulsee Das's blessing in exchange.' The Brahmin didn't take too long to think about the offer and was soon off on his way with the bag of money. The SarPanch climbed the tree went across the branch and with full faith in Ram he jumped off. Ram caught him like a baby in its mother's arms. Sounds too unbelievable to be true? But look for the deeper meaning, there's a very, very important spiritual point to this story. I am like the Brahmin, I do my nitnem prayers and preach to people. I do Waheguru Waheguru meditation and I follow the bits of the Guru's Shabad that I like and ignore the bits that are difficult to apply. I follow half of the Hukam, God's Order, and my life trickles away like this then I wonder why I haven't met Waheguru ji. When my brother comes to me with a great business opportunity my focus becomes how I can make lots and lots of money and in the background I rush my nitnem and Waheguru Waheguru meditation. My life trickles away like this and I wonder why I haven't met Waheguru ji. But one day with Guru Ji's great kirpa, I hear the story of Tulsee Das. Now I realise I am like the Brahmin, I have lots of things to live for and I am scared of dying. Guru Nanak Ji says 'I have no anxiety about dying, and no hope of living.' (p20). Why is Guru Nanak Ji so brave? Because he has full faith that Waheguru ji is looking after him 'SIREE RAAG, FIRST MEHL: I have no anxiety about dying, and no hope of living. You are the Cherisher of all beings; You keep the account of our breaths and morsels of food. You abide within the Gurmukh. As it pleases You, You decide our allotment. || 1 ||' (p20). So in my ardas, 'Guru Granth Sahib Jee you have given your blessing like Tulsee Das gave to the Brahmin. Give me full faith in your Gurbanee Words like the SarPanch had full faith in what Tulsee Das said. Baba Ji may I follow your words 100% and if it kills me then I have faith Waheguru ji You yourself will catch me.' And dear Khalsa Ji, when you die while alive and are caught by Waheguru ji then you will be called Jeevan Mukhat. While still alive you have obtained liberation. By dying to the Shabad one finds the True Life held in the arms of Waheguru ji. with thanks to the AKJ website

  6. The need of moral charcter for being spiritually strong If we wish to avoid falling under the influence of delusion we must guard our mind and prevent it from wandering in agyanta, mainly due to mother ahankar. We cannot practice moral discipline purely if we have an unguarded mind. If we can learn how to protect our mind from delusion and yoke it to the practice of virtue, or subh karam and being selfless, with utmost humility then our moral discipline will grow in strength and eventually be perfected. If we neglect to guard our mind, however, many faults will arise, and we shall get farther away and away from the Ultimate Truth
  7. Sorry bro, I do not know. Got it from a friend of mine, liked it, and thought of sharing with the sangat here.
  8. THE BUS STOP DOESN’T MATTER; YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DRIVER DOES A boy stood on a sidewalk waiting for a bus. A man walking by spotted the boy and gave him some gentle advice. "Son," he said, "if you're waiting for the bus you need to move to the street corner. That's where the bus stops for passengers.""It's OK," said the boy. "I'll just wait right here and the bus will stop for me." The man repeated his advice, but the boy never moved. Just then, the bus appeared. Amazingly, the bus pulled over to where the boy stood and he hopped in. The man on the sidewalk stood speechless. The boy turned around in the doorway and said, "Mister, I knew the bus would stop here, because the bus driver is my dad! "When you've got a relationship with the bus driver, you don't need a bus stop. If you've given your heart to the King of Kings, you're in a royal family of unspeakable proportions. Today I would like to remind you that when you know the Driver of your life, you can take the bus of life anywhere. He will stop and pick you up where people think it is not possible. Whether you are unemployed, broke, single or married, or childless or divorced, or widowed. What matters is that you know Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above what we can think or even imagine. However, the BIG question is : "Is the Driver your Father?" "Are you still His child? You can only get that privilege if He is your Father. Enjoy the ride with your Father. *God knows the best, He does the best, He gives the best because He is the best. May He make you achieve the best in everything you do in life now and forever. Stay blessed, Sat Sree Akal.
  9. Brother Pyara Guest Jee, So sorry to hear about your pain. We must bear in mind, all our pains, pleasures, gains, losses, health, wealth, birth, death, honor, dishonor .... are all due to our own past karma , then also, the biggest pain which can one have, is to be "bemukh" from Wahiguru. So brother, whatever we get, is nothing but the reaping of our very own karmas, and there is no such magic stick to waver and remove away those karmas. Clouds come, pour rain and pass away. So too, our karmas come, give us our earned fruits in form of pleasure or pain, and go away. Some stay longer due to the climatological conditions, but definetely, pass away at its due time. Brother, I am not trying to put you down, but just trying to explain you how the law of karma works. Having said that, we have 2 options, either wail and shout, or accept that law of karma, and at the same time, take shelter at His Lotus Feet, through His sincere bhakti. For then, He who is the source of all bliss and joy shall come and stay in our chit. And when our attention or let us say, our mind is focussed on Him, we do not feel the effects of the karmas, for we have arised our surtee above the mental spheres, then brother, there is nothing, but He permeating our whole being with His divine presence, and then we feel only Anand. The Bani says: Anand bhayaa, sukh paaya, mil Guru Govinda. To send you blessings, it costs nothing, so brother, whoever you are, wherever you are, howsoever you are, you have my blessings and good wishes, but then also, we are nothing, it is He at all times within everyone, and He also, is the "kartar", the real Doer. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.
  10. Contact and connection It was April 2009. I was returning from Delhi by flight with a monk of the RamaKrishna Mission sitting next to me and a journalist from the US sitting on the third seat . The journalist started interviewing the monk as planned earlier. Journalist - Sir , in your last lecture, you told us about Jogajog ( contact ) & Sanjog (connection ). It's really confusing. Can you explain ? The Monk smiled and apparently deviating from the question asked the journalist:Are you from New York? Journalist - Yeh... Monk - Who are there at home ? The Journalist felt that the Monk was trying to avoid answering his question since this was a very personal and unwarranted question. Yet the journalist said: "Mother has expired. Father is there. Three brothers and one sister. All married..." The Monk, with a smile on his face, asked again: - "Do you talk to your father?" The journalist looked visibly annoyed... The Monk - "When did you talk to him last?" The journalist, supressing his annoyance said: "May be a month ago." The Monk: "Do you brothers and sisters meet often ? When did you meet last as a family gathering?" At this point, I saw sweat on the forehead ok the journalist. I wondered who was conducting the interview, the Monk or the Journalist. It seemed that the Monk was interviewing the Journalist. With a sigh , the Journalist said: "We met last at Christmas two years ago." The Monk: " How many days did you all stay together ?" The Journalist ( wiping the sweat on his brow) said : "Three days..." Monk: "How much time did you spend with your Father, sitting right beside him ?" I saw the journalist looking perplexed and embarassed and scribbling something on a paper... The Monk: "Did you have breakfast, lunch or dinner together ? Did you ask how he was? Did you ask how his days are passing after your mother's death ?" I saw drops of tears coming out from the eyes of the journalist. The Monk held the hand of the journalist and said: "Don't be embrassed, upset or sad. I am sorry if I have hurt you unknowingly... But this is basically the answer to your question about "contact and connection ( jogajog and Sanjog)". You have 'contact' with your father but you don't have 'connection' with him. You are not connected to him. Connection is between heart and heart... sitting together , sharing meals and caring for each other ; touching , shaking hands, having eye contact, spending some time together...You brothers and sisters have 'contact' but you have no 'connection' with each other...." The journalist wiped his eyes and said : "Thanks for teaching me a fine and unforgettable lesson" This is the reality today. Whether at home or in the society everybody has lots of contacts but there is no connection. No communication... . Everybody is in his or her own world. Let us not maintain just "contacts" but let us remain "connected" ; caring , sharing and spending time with all our dear ones.
  11. A Priest, A Minister, A Mullah And A Bear A priest, a minister, and a mullah want to see who’s best at his job. So each one goes into the woods, finds a bear, and attempts to convert it. Later, they all get together. The priest begins: “When I found the bear, I read to him from the catechism and sprinkled him with holy water. Next week is his first Communion.” “I found a bear by the stream,” says the minister, “and preached God’s holy Word. The bear was so mesmerized that he let me baptize him.” They both look down at the mullah, who is lying on a gurney in a body cast. “Looking back,” he says, “maybe I shouldn’t have started with the circumcision.”
  12. ON PREGNANCY My husband and I had been trying to have a third child for a while. Unfortunately, the day I was to take a home pregnancy test, he was called out of town on business. I had told our young daughters about the test, and they were excited. We decided if it was positive, we would buy a baby outfit to surprise their father when he got home. The three of us stood in the bathroom eagerly waiting for the telltale line to appear. When it did not, my thoughtful seven-year-old gave me a hug. "It's okay, Mom," she said. "The next time Daddy goes out of town, you can try and get pregnant again."
  13. Is Celibacy the key to Genius? It depends from what perspective does one takes that state of being. From the question as per this thread, and If I am not wrong think the OP refers being nearer to the divine. You see if possible, absistence from kaam, is always helpful for stepping into spirituality, provided one attaches oneself to His Lotus Feet, through nishkam bhakti, otherwise, if not , and one is still devoted to Him, then too, He is so Dayalu, that by sincerely engaging in His bhakti, all our vikars will fade away or subdued in due time, that is nothing more to us, then about His apaar kirpa and beant wadeeayee. That is why Guru Sahiban tells us in the Bani: Prabh ka simran man kee mael jaae. His simran, purifies us from all our impurities, such as: vikars, paaps, past sanskars, panj chor.... You see, it is only attachment which can create detachment in us. This means, attachment to His Lotus Feet, detaches us totally from maya, panj chor, and every other thing which can be an obstacle between us and Him. Once again, it is all His kirpa only, by which we get nearer to Him, to the extent, that one day we merge in Him. Words fail to describe or sing even a tiny bit of His infinite glory. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.
  14. Everyone is welcome to try his/her best, but still, I will only follow Guru Jee´s instructions , the fountain of all true knowledge. It is very clear, when Guru Jee tells us : Jin Har japeeya, seh Har hoeeya. Others may guess or sepeculate, or give the reply from their perspective, but brother, the words of Guru Jee, for us humans when followed, are Sat Bachan in a simple manner. He who recites His Name, becomes one with Him, without any distinction. What else does one want? Sat Sree Akal.
  15. Brother Daya Singh Jee, there can be several answers to your question, but with to make a direct approach to it in a clear manner and in simple words, the Bani is very precise, when it says: Prabh Ka Simran, sabh tay oochaa . Further on, it also tells us : Awar kaaj tere kitte na kaam, mil Sadh sangat, bhaj kewal Nam. So you see, we are all murakhs where spirituality is concerned, so why not faithfully follow and do what Guru Jee, the supreme Gyani tells us to do through the Bani. With due respect to all mazabs, from this our present loctaion, until the one where Wahiguru is, means Parbraham, Sach Khand, there are countless stations or let us say destinations; it all depends on the ticket we willingly take/purchase, means the type of jaap or devotion we perform. To just mention a few of these stations, some mantras/jaap take us to devlok, Indralok, Vishnupuri/ Baikunth, Shivpuri...etc; but brother, it is only by Wahiguru´s kirpa and His Simran, that we can be able to reach His abode. That´s it. Stay blessed. Sat Sree Akal.
  16. Enough about jokes on wives. Now somethng for husbands... A new metal is added to chemistry: • Name - Husband • Symbol - Hb • Atomic weight: - Light when found first - Tends to get heavier over the years with time • Physical properties: - Boils at any time with inlaws - Can freeze in front of his own family - Melts if sees other women - Very bitter if questioned • Chemical properties: - Very reactive - Highly unstable - Possesses strong resistance to gold, silver, diamond, platinum, credit cards and cheque books - Money saving agent • Occurrence: - Mostly found in front of TV, Laptop & Mobile. . ✒...if we lose a pen, we can buy new one; but if we lose a pen cap, we cannot buy it... so love your husband, because all Dhakkans are important Always keep your husbands picture as mobile screen saver. Whenever you face a problem, see the picture & say: if I can handle this, I can handle anything!... Finally -Living with husband is a part of living......... but living with the same husband for years is 'art of living'!!!!!!! Cheers to all women.
  17. Why do we need a Master (Guru)? Once upon a time, a cow went out to graze in the jungle. Suddenly, she noticed a tiger racing towards her. She turned and fled, fearing that at any moment the tiger would sink his claws into her. The cow desperately looked for someplace to escape and at last, saw a shallow pond. Barely evading the tiger’s reach, she jumped into the pond, and in the heat of the chase, the tiger blindly leaped after her. To the surprise of them both, the pond was extremely shallow yet filled with deep recesses of mud. After toppling over each other, the cow and the tiger found themselves a short distance apart, stuck in the mud up to their necks. Both had their heads above water but were unable to free themselves no matter how much they writhed. The tiger repeatedly snarled at the cow and roared, “I am going to enjoy the sound of crunching your bones between my teeth!” He thrashed about in fury but soon became fretful as he found no prospect of escape. The cow thoughtfully laughed as the tiger struggled to free himself and asked him, “Do you have a master?” The tiger disdainfully replied, “I am the king of the jungle. Why do you ask me if I have a master? I myself am the master!” The cow said, “You may be the king of the jungle, but here all your power has failed to save your life.” “And what about you?” Retorted the tiger. “You are going to die here in this mud too!”’ The cow smiled mildly and said, “No, I am not.” “If even I, the king of the jungle cannot free myself from this mud”, snapped the tiger, “Then how can you, an ordinary cow?” The cow gently replied, “I cannot free myself from this mud, but my master can. When the sun sets and he finds me absent at home, he will come looking for me. Once he finds me, he will raise me up and escort me home sweet home.” The tiger fell silent and coldly glared at the cow. Soon enough, the sunset and the cow’s master arrived. He immediately recognized the plight she was in and lifted her to safety. As they walked home, the cow and the master both felt renewed gratitude for one another and pitied the tiger they both would have been happy to save if only the tiger had allowed them. The cow represents a surrendered heart, the tiger represents an egoistic mind, and the master represents the Guru. The mud represents the world, and the chase represents the struggle for existence therein. Debrief Its good to be independent and not rely on anyone. But don't take it to an extreme, you always need a partner/coach/mentor who will be always on the lookout for you. Having them does not mean you are weak, it's just that you can be stronger with their help. Make sure to share this story with your partner/coach/mentor and express your gratitude. **Happy Guru Poornima**
