  1. nice pic, keep up the good pics coming in!
  2. This is such a controversial issue, almost on every website this sort of issue goes on forever and ever. None of us really knew him personally so its difficult to say. From my personal views, I think that some of the many reasons why he was looked up to was cos of the fact that he revived the sikhs to come back to their religion, was one of the very few genuine Sikh leaders we had, he knew that oppositions wanted to destroy sikhi and he stood up as much as he could to prevent this. I know a few stories about Sant Ji that indicated that yes he was very much an enlightened person. He had earth moving 'powers' due to his spirituality and this had been witnessed by various people. In my opinion, whether or not he'll come back..we wont know, but God always sends the good people to guide us and I know that we have yet to wait for another leader(s) to come and help us throught these bad times. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moderate Note: We think that main question has been answered which was the intention of this thread. And now allowing further discussion on this matter will lead to subjective responses and conflicts within certain members. We should consider Sikhism and Gurus higher than anyone on this earth. It is always good to follow Guru Granth Sahib. Sant Jarnail Singh was Sikh of guru like so many others. This discussion is locked in order to avoid any conflicts. You can visit site started by Dam Dammi Taksal to get more information regarding him. here is the URL. www.gursikhijeevan.com Also you can visit www.sikhnet.com and search their discussion for for sant Jarnail Singh and there are so many interesting discussion you can read.
  3. C'mon man, thats a bit harsh. I have some Muslim girl mates, they seem content with their religion and family life. We cant generalise ??
  4. ^^^^ hey i work for Immigration, i'll help u send him back aimmeee bakwaas, its people who cause disctinctions between castes a breakdown in our unity.
  5. I rekon u should ask ur Local Gurdwara first, see what they think and let them authorise this. (my friend was in a similar situation a few years back).
  6. U know what, I actually think she was quite a good leader, but she messed up BIG time towards the end. If shes the greatest leader...that makes Mother Tereasa look like a dictator....
  7. Thanks N30, Thanks for keeping the positive memories of Sant Ji alive. keep up the good work. Nice portrait of Guru ji too
  8. Thank you very much for the info. I dont want to turn this thread into another topic but I want to express the fact that Sant Ji woke the Sikh population up and revived us all. Reading about him brought me back into Sikhi and I respect him for that. He was the only man who could stand up to inequalities and practices against Human Rights. We shouldn't judge him, its all up to god to judge him. '1 man's terrorist is another man's Hero', thats all I have to say. And the CD is great! Atleast efforts are being made for the Sikh youth
  9. Amardeep, (Aww@ the memories)..Have u got any pics of them? I was amazed at how fab the Nagar Kirtans were in India It was in Jallundhar Cantt Choni (shonii, dont know how to spell it), my Massi lives 3 minutes away from the main Gurdwara. Whilst we stayed there, my dad used to get up and do seva there and on Gurpurab, they handed him a Saropa due to his hard work..(great holiday for him !!) It was so great, they had Miri Piri Academy American Singhs and Singhani's (unfortunately I got so caught up in the fun that I didnt take pics of them- there were THOUSANDS of them). I really enjoyed it, there was noise - fireworks, kirtan, the band, vans and trucks from the early hours till the late at night. Outside the Gurdwara, there was a model plane full of fresh petals, it was HUGE..and as the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji passed, all the thousands of petals were tipped out. Every single street had Khalsa Flags up, and a different band..absolutely everywhere. Hindus/ Sikhs, people from the local Pinds ..everyone joined it. One thing, because my Massi's house is literally next to the Gurdwara, i got NO sleep..they'd start doing Kirtan from 4am every morning! and in addition to that there was a late night Jagrata (Hindu festival every night )...so when i got back to UK, I looked like I had 10 rounds with Mike Tyson..and had a lot of sleep to catch up! Amardeep, you should go back for a holiday end of October time, it all happens around then. I am going again for sure! One question, I noticed that quite a few of the Gurdwaras dont serve Langar 24/7 (well this one didnt). People said that its due to poor people taking advantage. The only serve Langar on Gurpurabs/ Bhasakhi etc. Why is this? Why not 24/7? Surely thats wrong
  10. Wow, heard of that story too, amazing
  11. I dont know why people blame the girls, the guys are just as bad. Anyway, I dont want to create another topic here or agrue with any one! Its a problem which is significantly caused by lack of education and resources. Parents or upbringing is very important. If the parents dont educate their kids about Sikhi or make and effort to take them to Punjabi Schools or the Gudwara and teach them about Sikhi then as a result- the children will drift away. Look at Muslims as an example, they spend a lot of money on educational resources (at Universities I see sooooo many resources and stalls and so on). From a personal experience, I have sikh friends who dont even know who the Guru's are! So when it comes to the crunch- its all down to parents / education.
  12. School Kids takig part; [highlight=red:96261411ce]girl power[/highlight:96261411ce]
  13. I went to India recently and got caught up in this huge nagar kirtan clebrating Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Birthday. On of my fav parts was watching the Scottish Sardar Ji's band...WOW!! I'll post the rest later this week. I had such a fantastic time that day, probably one of the best moments in my life so far It'd be great to invite these guys to one of our Nagar Kirtans..!
  14. 'Mitti Musalman Ki peirei paee kumiar; Ghar bhandei itan, jaldi karei pukar.' (Asa Mohalla 1, p-466) The above verse, I have heard or read a definition of a LONG time ago. From what I remember, it basically explains that although Muslims believe that their bodies will be resurrected on Judgement Day- this is not necessarily true as eventually they will be cremated like us (the soil of their decomposed bodies are used to make clay- and are burnt). Sorry if it doesnt make sense, like I said I am not certain about this statement as i did read about this explanation a very very long time ago.
  15. Have a look at some really good articles on this website www.gurbani.org I used to be so confused about these things- and this website made it so simple to understand and overcome..just take time to read the articles on there..Its one of my favourite sites
  16. Orchid Just try listening to it- think of it as an educational resource, I wont deny it but I sweated the night I slept after hearing it..but it will be ok as long as u remember God. Its really worth it...trust
  17. I dont know much about them, but I recently been to India for a holiday and OH MY GOD>>>>>>>there are LOADS of Radasoami temples accross Punjab and the rest of India
  18. LOL@ Dharamraj - a 'dude' Orchid, have a read of a book called 'In Search of the True Guru' by Rama Singh (a dude who was Hindu and one day, stated getting visuals and as a result became a gursikh). Its in English, so its easy to understand. Heres a quote from the book with regards to what he saw (death experience): "I have had a personal experience of how a lustful person is tortured in that horrible nightmare. A person is first taken through a gate of fire and thrown into the pit of hell where the water is boiling all the time. When the Soul reaches there, it repents for its evil deeds. There is no food or water served. On all 4 sides, one can hear the wailing of 'HAI, HAI' , if someone asks for water, he is first asked by the JAMDOOTS for which good deed done during his lifetime he should be given water. If he has none to his credit, then no water is given". There are some images in the book that Bhai Rama saw, and more on this experience.
  19. Maybe jesus didnt claim that, after all he existed a LONG LONG time ago and as you all know, history gets distorted. I told my Muslim friend the other day that I saw the Passion of the Christ and she went bezerk!! Saying that the way Jesus died in the Passion of Christ wasn't true. Muslims believed he died in another way. (Just confused me more)!! I really hope that in 1000 yrs time, sikhi doesnt get distorted like this!!!!!!
  20. PN, I wish you all the best, we all have our pathways to finding God and we are all individuals. I think, as long as you are at peace- fair play. How ever, you stated that Sikh society has a sense of: ''Hypocrisy, insecurity, pettiness, arrogance, ignorance, lack of respect, false and unflattering bravado''. Well I have news for you- you get this is all religions, if not- an element of it. Theres no escaping- its there and always will be - Its human nature. And you say that nobody is there to teach you about sikhism>..well things dont come easy to us all in this world today- we go out and find it ourselves in most cases. In my opinion, I might get a lot of people against this, but I see religions of the world- the same- leading to 1 God. Which pathway I personally follow, or dont follow is for me to decide I guess.
  21. The pain!! gosh imagine..(well thats my main fear!) And also, after reading 'in search of the true Guru' (manmukh to gurmukh)..the visions that Bhai Rama Singh Ji had dont sound good!!!! :? (im weak!!)
  22. I watched the film a couple of days ago, and it was incredible. Probably the best film I have ever seen. Its nice to watch a film that has a meaning to life as supposed to the violent gundh rubbish that come on. Its sad but I bet it wouldnt win any awards - instead its gonna be a violent gundh film that would get all the attention (thats life in todays world). I dont believe it was anti semetic at all, infact wasnt it some of Jesus' disciples who also betrayed him! Its a movie of love for God, and respecting ur enemies which is far more rewarding than loving someone who loves you. The film also reminded me of our Gurus, and how they too made sacrafices for their followers as well as enemies! I say that more films should be made like this that have a meaning and promote love n peace in the world today.
  23. sat sri akaal people! Im going to ask you all a couple of questions, and I dont mean offense what so ever. I am a Sikh, learning about my own religion and sikhawareness has some useful sources of information. Is the Sarovar in the Golden Temple clean? I went there recently, and it looked ok. My mum asked me to go in and pay respects, but I couldnt in the beginning- then just went in. I saw people frantically pushing about, trying to get in..and made me think- is it clean? If you are sweating etc, surely its gets in the water right?..then some people drink it- its Amrit And another point- Im just confused cos Sikhs shouldnt really believe in miracles and these people went, thinking that they'd get luck (maybe they will, I dont know). You have to work HARD as well as pray/ kar seva to get far in life? If i repaeted this thread- or if it has been discussed earlier, I apologise- just give me the thread.. Cheers!
