  2. Sache Patshah visited Delhi when small pox had broken out (correct me if i m wrong, was it small pox? ). He cured so many people. Gurdwara Bangla Sahib commemorates His stay in Delhi. daas has had the fortune of visiting Bangla Sahib once.
  3. People who stay away from evil coz of fear of GOD are normal people. Those who do so out of love for GOD are great ones. i never understood the meaning of this. Later on i realised by Guru's grace, that its a stage when u are so much in love with WAHEGURU, that u don't wanna do any wrong. Not because HE will punish u, but becoz u dont wanna feel embarassed when u face HIM. Ofcourse HE will forgive u, but why do such a thing in the 1st place that u can't face HIM! Its like our parents not hitting us when we do something wrong at an elderly age, but they do feel disrespected and upset. When u think of GOD as your mom-dad, and dont wanna upset HIM, u wont do any wrong. And that wont be coz of fear, that will be outta love
  4. The queen of Dacca (today Dhaka, Bangladesh) had ordered her artist to draw a painting of Guru Teg Bahadur when Sache Patshah was there. The painter drew the body but couldn't draw the head. Guru Sahib drew it Himself with the brush! This painting was brought to Calcutta during the 1999 Vasakhi celebrations.
  5. http://headlines.sify.com/2421news2.html?h...fidelity:~Study Internet chat increases infidelity: Study Washington: Internet chat rooms are fast emerging as courting grounds for people looking for romantic or sexual thrills. What boggles the mind is that most of these "chatters" are married, according to a new University of Florida (UF) study. "Never before has the dating world been so handy for married men and women looking for a fling," said Beatriz Avila Mileham, who conducted the research for her doctoral dissertation in counselor education at UF. "With cyber sex, there is no longer any need for secret trips to obscure motels. An online liaison may even take place in the same room with one's spouse," she claims. Counseling organisations report that chat rooms are the fastest rising cause of relationship breakdowns and the problem is likely to get worse as today's population of Internet users, estimated at 649 million worldwide, continues to grow, Mileham said. "The Internet will soon become the most common form of infidelity, if it isn't already," she said. Unlike some fatal attractions, a simple click of a mouse button ends contact - should the person want to break it off - without any explanations or apologies, she said. In 2002, Mileham conducted in-depth online interviews with 76 men and 10 women, ages 25 to 66, who used Yahoo's "Married and Flirting" or Microsoft's "Married But Flirting," Internet chat rooms that are geared specifically for married people. Eighty-three percent of the study's participants said they did not consider themselves to be cheating. The remaining 17 percent deemed it a "weak" form of infidelity that was easily justifiable, she said. Other research, however, showed that most spouses feel as betrayed, angry and hurt by online infidelity as they would if skin-to-skin adultery were taking place, she said. The UF study found that what started out as innocent, friendly exchanges progressed quickly to strong desires for sexual relationships. Twenty-six of the 86 participants went on to meet the person whom they had been engaged in an online relationship with, and of these, all but two ended up having a real-life affair. One 66-year-old man ended up having 13 affairs this way, she said. ANI

  8. http://www.nihang.net/pgsikh_prophecy.htm The Karni Namah and the Raj Namah are two significant chapters of the Sau Sakhi, the Sikh book of prophecy. The Raj Namah appears in, The History Of The Sikhs, by J D Cunningham on p. 340. Cunningham came across this document during the mid 19th century. He states that these ?compositions are of course fabulous as regards Nanak, and appear to be the compositions of the commencement or middle of the last century?. The Karni Namah was told to Qazi Rukan Din, Pir Bahaoud Din, Ghous, Kuthab, Saalaar, Hajji, Sheikh and Mushaikh Aulviya, who sat with Guru Nanak at religious discussions. The Raj Namah was told to Kaarun, the Emperor of Rome, on Guru Nanak?s return from medina. These prophecies were in the Old Janam Sakhi?s written by Bhai Bala, who accompanied Guru Nanak on his travels. However, the British removed them. ?Raaj Karega Khalsa Aaki Rahai Na Koe. Khuaar Hoe Sab Milengai Bachai Sharan Jo Hoe?. This is said by the Sikhs in their daily Ardas. As it can be seen, the Karni Nama is the only source of these words. Karni Nama While Guru Nanak was in Mecca and Medina, Qazi Rukan Din asked, ?True King, tell us your prophecy again. Tell us how you will unfold the future?. Your name is Nanak Nirankari and you are from the Nation of the Lord. What are the instructions for the future? Nanak replied Rukan Din, ?listen to the true answer? Whosoever reads or listens to this shall be content. All doubts shall be removed. In the tenth dress shall reside The Lord. I shall fight many battles against Emperor Aurangzeb. I shall then send a letter of victory (Zafarnamah) to Aurangzeb with my Singh (Bhai Daya Singh). Upon seeing him, Power shall lessen and he shall forget his devious ways. Emperor Aurangzeb will be overwhelmed by the sight of Daya Singh and will start to tremble. ?The Khalsa been resurrected! Good has not been done by Gobind Singh!? I shall vanish (from sight) having given a kingdom; My name being Gobind There will be a time when the Khalsa shall forget the teachings I have given them. Sikhi will only be left in name. Many Wars shall occur. I will have to return again to resurrect the Khalsa. They shall reside in the Punjab. I shall make people from all four corners into one. They will be in Majjha; They will raid Lahore. They will bring Potohaar to justice; They will take Peshawar. They will set up a cantonment at Attock and then open the Khyber Pass. They will establish a kingdom in Kabul and then take Ghazni. After bringing Hazaara to justice they will march on to Kandahar. After taking Balack and Buckaara, they will conquer Sindh and Baloch. After gaining victory over these lands they shall govern all the people. Mecca, Medina and Rome shall tremble. They shall gain victory in battle over south and west India. The Guru?s Army shall sit at the throne of Delhi. Umbrellas of kingship shall sway over their heads. All shall be content. From East to West all shall be conquered. None shall challenge the Khalsa. All humanity shall become one. In the kingdom of the True King, Satjug shall be established. The Khalsa Panth shall rule. The arrows of death shall not touch them. The Army of the Timeless shall grow and spread like locusts. All shall wear vestments of blue; no one else shall be seen. Listen Qazi Rukan Din, ?The Singhs shall rule?. The Unholy Sheikhs shall be destroyed. Pirs and Mureeds shall be no more. All shall recite the one name of the Lord. Then he shall come himself. The untrue shall not be able to see his glory. All humanity shall unite and he will distribute provinces. The Earth shall give food and the mountains shall give diamonds. Fruits of many kinds there shall be, upon the sight of the timeless. All shall recite VAHEGURU and achieve salvation. Many Dharamsalas (places of discussion) shall exist. The Koran and the Mosques shall vanish. The Lord shall manifest himself in body (as man). He will make all utter VAHEGURU. All Singhs shall flock under his banner. All shall know him as the True One. He will sit at the throne of Delhi. He will establish a kingdom of peace and no enemies will remain. Wherever the Khalsa turns his eye, the 14 realms shall tremble. For 14,000 years, this kingdom shall remain. Wealth will be collected and food shall be distributed. The naked and the starving shall all receive; no one will go without. Sayeth Nanak, ?Rukan Din, This is how it shall be?. Whosoever reads the Karni Namah, his love with The Lord shall grow. The Word of the Timeless shall prevail. Those uttering falsehood shall not remain. After the effect of The Akaal, forests, mountains and the world shall see salvation. The Khalsa shall Rule. There will be no-one left to oppose them. All who are lost shall gain the safety of the Khalsa Raj Nama Spoken by the First Master First, Nanak went to Mecca; Medina he afterwards visited. The lord of Mecca and Medina, Kaarun, he made his disciple. When Nanak was about to depart, Kaarun, the fortunate, thus spoke: Now thou art about to go, But when wilt thou return? Then the Guru thus answered: When I put on my tenth dress I shall be called Gobind Singh; Then shall all Singhs wear their hair; They shall accept the ?Pahal? of the two-edged Sword Then shall the Khalsa be established; Then shall men exclaim ?Vaheguru? The four races shall become one and the same; The five weapons shall be worn by all. In Kalyug they shall array themselves in vestments of blue; The name of the Khalsa shall be everywhere. In the time of Aurangzeb The wondrous Khalsa shall arise. Then shall battles be waged, Endless war shall ensue, And fighting shall follow year after year. They shall place the name of Gobind Singh in their hearts. When many heads shall be rendered up, The Empire of the Khalsa shall prevail. First, they shall conquer Punjab; Then other countries shall be theirs; Hindustan and the North shall be possessed by them; Then the west shall bow to them. When they enter Khorasan, Kabul and Kandahar shall lie low. When Iran has been laid prostrate, Arabia shall be conquered and they shall march on to Mecca. Mecca shall be beheld, And Medina shall be seized. Mighty shall be the rejoicing, And all shall exclaim ?Vaheguru?. Unbelievers shall everywhere be destroyed; The holy Khalsa shall be exalted. Beasts and Birds shall tremble in the presence of the Lord. Men and Women shall everywhere call on God. The Earth, the Oceans and the Heavens shall call on God. By calling on the Guru shall men be blessed. Every faith shall become of the Khalsa; No other religion will remain. ?Vaheguru? shall everywhere be repeated, And pain and trouble shall depart. In the Kalyug shall the Kingdom be established, Which Nanak received from the Lord. Worthless, I fall before God; Nanak, the slave, cannot comprehend the ways of the Lord. Thus replied Nanak to Kaarun?s question. Questions: The coming of Nanak was prophesised thousands of years before his arrival. These prophecies are explicitly detailed in the Vedas and the Puranas, which are amongst the oldest scriptures on Earth. Whilst at Mecca and Medina, Guru Nanak unfolded futuristic events in the Karni Nama and the Raj Nama. He clearly states that he will have to return to ressurect the Khalsa. Prophets of the world have all established their religions. Each religion was a requirement of its age, which the prophet was sent to fulfil. The way of the Khalsa is the requirement in the age of Kaljug. It is the tool necessary to defeat Kaljug and establish the kingdom of Satjug. Presently, the Khalsa appears to be in a state of dormancy. What is required for the Great Guru to show himself? What conditions are required, i.e., how much more of a decline of humanity is required? Is this decline necessary? What can we do, as Khalsa, to stop this decline from occurring? What we are currently doing is OBVIOUSLY not working!!!

(page 1299) I have given up jealousy ever since i associated with the company of saints. (pause) No one is my enemy; none is stranger to me; I am the friend of all. Whatever the Lord does is good. I got this sublime wisdom from the saints. The Lord pervades everything. Nanak is over-joyed seeing and beholding Him. JEALOUSY..literally the test means that i have forgotton to be concerned with other persons. WISDOM...wisdom lies in submission to the Will of God. Recite after Nitnem, or any time of the day, with full love and devotion. This can be recited anytime Dhansari Mahla Panjva Aukhi ghari na dekhan daiyee apna birdh samalay, Hath daye rakhay apnay kau sas sas pritpalay, Prabh siyu lag rahiyo mera cheet, Aad ant Prabhu sada sahayee dhan hamara meet. The lord does not allow his servants to face their difficult hours alone; this is his prerogative. With his protecting hand, He takes care of His own servants at every moment of their lives. Let your heart remain attached to the Lord. From the beginning of life to its end, the Lord is ever our Helper. How great is the Lord. (pause) As if witnessing the marvellous greatness of the Lord, my heart is delighted. The Lord will protect the honour of those, who meditate on him. This is to be recited when one is scared, or before sleeping. Bilawal Mahal Panjva Tati vao na lagaee Parbrahm sarnaee, Chaugird hamaray Ram kar dukh lagay na bhaee, Satguru poora bhetiya jin banat banaee, Ram nam aukhadh deeya eka liv laee (Rahau) Rakh leeyay tinn rakhanhar sabh biyadh mitaee, Kah Nanak kirpa bhaee Prabh bhyay sahaee. Hot wind blows not over him who is under the protection of the supreme lord. On all the four sides is the lord's protecting circle and so pain does not disturb me, O brother! I have met the perfect Guru who has made me as he desired. He has blessed me with the medicine of the Lord's Name as remedy and I am in tune with Him now. (Pause) The protector-Lord had saved me and cured me of all my maladies. Nanak says:"The Lord had extended his grace to me and given me His support." HOT WIND: or ill wind stands for anxieties and misfortunes. It has no effect on God's devotees. The MYSTIC CYCLE has the effect of warding off danger, if one remains inside it. Lord Rama had drawn a mystic circle around his wife Sita while living in the forest.

  13. http://www.indianexpress.com/full_story.php?content_id=27599 Besides being morally wrong, events like Babri Masjid demolition, Gujarat riots harm Hinduism itself Kaushik Basu It is time for the average Hindu to reclaim his religion from the madness being unleashed in its name by the VHP and the RSS. The most recent complaint against India’s Muslims, namely, that they did not accept the Shankaracharya’s ‘‘reasonable offer’’ is absurd. The Kanchi Shankaracharya, true to his reputation, had started out in earnest — to engage in dialogue, to take and to give. But what was offered in the end, under relentless pressure from the VHP, was quite egregious. The Hindus would make no concessions — not on Kashi, not on Mathura. And the Muslims would gift the disputed land in Ayodhya to the Hindus. But this makes a travesty of the term ‘‘gift’’. You can urge your own side to give away something. But asking the other side to gift something to you is a misuse of the word. And when that something happens to be land, created by the illegal demolition of a mosque, this amounts to taking a person hostage and then asking him to ‘‘gift’’ his watch to you. This Ayodhya deadlock is just one in a line of events, beginning with the 1992 destruction of the Babri Masjid and continuing with the massacre in Gujarat, and the bending of the law to protect its perpetrators. Not only are these events morally wrong, they do great harm, ironically, to Hinduism itself. Writing in the middle of the 19th century, Karl Marx had marvelled at the quiet robustness of Hindu civilisation. It would take blow after blow of invasions, the economy would shatter, the buildings break; but no sooner had the dust from the invading cavalry settled, it would become clear that Hinduism was intact, almost unchanged. In some ways, it is also a religion of unrivalled openness. There is no central command that sets the rules of what a Hindu may or may not do. One can violate its rituals and still legitimately claim to be a Hindu. One can be an atheist and a Hindu, as was the sage Carvaka. Aggression towards minorities, as are being preached by the VHP, is unbecoming of this great tradition. To whip up emotions by stoking fears that Hinduism is endangered and will perish unless it defends itself aggressively is to reveal an inferiority complex for which there is no basis. The inclination to use the State to ban conversion is founded in this same complex and a failure to understand that Hinduism may not be loud, strident and proselytising, but it is strong. It faces no risk, except from its own fundamentalists, who, by imitating other fundamentalists, are for the first time threatening to change the very character of this ancient religion. And while on this subject, I must add my own belief that, even if it were an endangered religion, there would be no moral reason to ban conversion. Religion is a personal matter. People should be free to preach; and if someone, as a consequence of this or simply because he is dissatisfied with his own religion, wants to switch to another faith, then so be it. Hindus have often treated their own sub-groups poorly. ‘‘To the Untouchables, Hinduism is a veritable chamber of horrors,’’ wrote India’s most famous Untouchable, B.R. Ambedkar. He argued that Hinduism, as practiced, was ‘‘inconsistent with the self-respect and honour of the Untouchables’’ and that this ‘‘justifies (their) conversion’’. Ambedkar himself converted to Buddhism three weeks before his death on December 6, 1956. If such conversions are thought to be offensive, then the lesson must be to reform the practices within Hinduism that lead to them, instead of using the State to block exit routes. It is time the BJP government dissociates itself from the VHP-RSS combine. I know it is naive to expect politicians to live entirely by their morals. To be able to do what a politician wants to do, he needs to be in power, and this often necessitates compromises. But at the same time even politicians must draw a line and decide that, beyond a point, it is better to lose an election than to be held hostage by a small fanatical group that has no respect for the law. The VHP has made it clear that if the ASI excavations yield no evidence of a temple, it will ignore the ASI; and if the Supreme Court does not rule in favour of a temple, it will use mass movement to counter the verdict. One of the critical ingredients of a thriving economy is the rule of law. For the BJP government, this is a good occasion to drive this point home. A tragedy of this government is that it is spending too little time on things that matter (like creating prosperity for the people) and too much time on ‘‘politics’’. For a nation as poor as ours, the pressing need is to enhance growth, create employment and curb corruption. India can achieve a growth rate of eight per cent per annum; it is in a position now to eradicate poverty. However, this will need determination, brainpower and time on the part of government to crafting and enforcing good economic policies. Our government is unfortunately so preoccupied with zero-sum political conflicts — Ayodhya, conversions, cow-slaughter, resurrection of Vedic Studies — that it is ignoring policies that can make a real difference to the lives of its citizens. It needs to put Ayodhya behind it as quickly as possible. If its current stance is making an early resolution so difficult, I suggest that it tries what is only a slight modification of the venerable Shankaracharya’s plan. Ask the Hindus to gift the land where the Babri Masjid once stood to the Muslims. — The writer is professor of economics at Cornell University and visiting professor at the Delhi School of Economics

  15. Tuesday, June 13th, 2000 Stillwater, Oklahoma. I think I have sat down to pen down a few words of my mind after a very very long time. Its been ages ever since I drew my mind on paper. I dont know when will be the next time I do so. Perhaps today I needed to finally express myself. So far I was busy gathering experiences of this world, both good and bad. I have finally come to one conclusion, that if anyone can accept man/woman as he/she is, good or bad, its only GOD, the ONE who created man and woman. People will always pin point at ones nature, and insist on one to change those features of personality which they judge incorrect. This is not the case with the Almighty Lord. I am seriously tired of watching people falling prey to pride, ego, jealousy, hatred etc. The more sophisticated words describing these evils in modern society are referred to as attitude problem, prestige issue, backbiting or bitching. Time and again people are heard using phrases like take it easy, cool it, chill, but they never seem to understand what these terms and phrases actually mean. Attitude problem refers to the nature of a person who is seen to be silent with a strong frown on his/her face, or who walks with his/her nose touching the clouds. Prestige issue revolves around an individual who is actually very insecure about his/her reputation, and the slightest comment passed can hurt his/her ego. Such a person can never tolerate the scene of someone else getting more importance than himself/herself. See how wonderfully society has renamed pride as attitude problem, and jealousy as prestige issue!! Unfortunately, people these days have too many issues. More than the highest numbers any mathematics taught us. One fails to understand as to why the human being has purposely made his/her life so much complicated, when it can be lived in a lot better way. It is only now, that I have started to understand what ills of society were fought by Guru Nanak and His successors. The world was then on fire, and it still is. Those who are getting the Gurus message are keeping themselves away from all the above mentioned ills of the world. Backbiting is even worse than attitude problem or prestige issue. It starts out as a general discussion, and ends in one making a list of faults found in another person. The Gurus were strongly against slander. There is so much rubbish lying on this earth, I had no idea at all! No one is happy at all. And the worst part is that one who tries to remain happy, the world doesnt let him/her. It is a truly sad situation, and a grave danger to a persons peace of mind. May the Almighty Lord free everyone of all social and human ills, so that this world becomes a better place to live in, and our short but hardly gifted human life flows smoothly free from all complications. 16. Love Thy Neighbor On a sunny morning, walking past the green trees Enjoying the beauty of nature, the sky and the breeze Adoring the creation, the rising and setting of the sun A moment when of no hatred, or the use of the sword or gun The naughty squirrel, the active bird, dwelling in the common abode Side by side, in love and peace, enmity is something none can afford Playful by nature, freedom since birth The bird chases the squirrel, and the latter runs forth How pitiable is man, O LORD of all, so hateful and so small Uncountable similarities exist, and yet no love for all They look the same, they talk the same, they even sing the same Inspite of this hatred persists, for logics so lame Nothing to share, and still together, present for each other Lets hope from them we learn, how to Love Thy Neighbor Rochak Sharma i sent this poem to http://www.poetry.com , and they nominated me for "poet of the year 2003 award". Well obviously I didn't get it (LOL ) but they put up my poem on their website. If u go to http://www.poetry.com , and type "Sharma" under "last name" and "Rochak" under "first name", u can see it .
  17. Monday,July 3rd,2000 Stillwater,Oklahoma Yet again I have managed to pen down my present state of mind. I have been so ungrateful to my beloved LORD. Never did I recognise HIS Grace in all that happened with me. Never did I thank HIM for what had happened, instead always blamed HIM for anything which i judged as a wrong happening to me. Never did I apologize for the sins I committed, and yet HE,my All-Forgiving LORD pardoned all my sins once I looked upto HIM. Hatred and anger filled my heart, and the world seemed to be betraying me every moment of my life. Every time HE wanted to teach me a lesson,HE put me in a seemingly chaotic situation, and then HE Himself would pull me out of it when I had learned. And HE would pull me out right on the edge, just before I could get into more possible trouble. I never thanked HIM for all this,on the contrary blamed all my so-called "bad times" or "bad experiences" on HIM. And yet HE is forgiving. One can stop believing in GOD,but GOD never gives up on anyone. No one in this world has accepted me as I am,other than my Guru Nanak. People of the world want you to change as per their taste. My Guru Nanak accepted me as I was and changed me in His own sweet way. Whenever my eyes searched for Him,He was there for me. Never did I recognise His presence, and considered myself all alone. It is so hard to live by HIS Will. Everything that happens with you or to you,you just have to surrender to HIS Will, and visualize HIS Grace within it. No matter even if it means to put your life at stake. Then you don't have a will of your own. Your will is in accordance with HIS Will. I never knew that this was so hard. You don't have your own mind. You don't have any ego of your own. You are no more yourself! And I salute and bow before the Ones who find peace in living such a life. Carefree, free from bonds of tension, envy, jealousy, hatred, anxiety. All left is just peace, calmness,Divine Love, and the Holy Vision of seeing HIM in everything. As the Gurbani says that all forms of creation are from the LORD Himself,so one will find it impossible to search for faults in others. May WAHEGURU bestow upon everyone such a blissful state of mind. Rochak Sharma
  18. Friday, August 25th, 2000 Stillwater, Oklahoma i said to the LORD "O LORD,u made someone handsome...someone rich......someone famous...someone tall...someone muscular...someone confident and someone powerful...i do not fit into any of these categories...why was i the one to be left out!!...isn't U'r Grace showered upon everyone equally?...isn't everyone equal before U?"...and the LORD smiled and said "son, the ones I made handsome are constantly under the anxiety of losing their looks on getting old...the rich ones fear the loss of wealth...the famous ones have nightmares of having a bad name in society...the tall ones are considered older than their actual age which depresses them always...the ones muscular end up with various diseases when all their muscles turn into fat in their old age...the ones who are confident fall very early once they let pride take over their minds...the ones powerful meet their end pretty soon upon abusing their power...and besides that My son,a large number of these mentioned ones have other faults too...some don't know how to speak in a decent manner...some have their noses flying over the seventh sky,and some are of an utter cheap character and thinking...I have given u such a remarkable sense of humour that u can make anyone's day...that u can erase off depression from the minds of people...that u'r mere sight brings a smile on the face of people...that people associate happiness with u...that people just love to talk to u...My dear son,I haven't granted any of such gifts to any of those u just mentioned"...and by the time GOD finished speaking,my collar was already wet with tears...and i said i was sorry...and i said that i couldn't thank HIM using mere words alone...truly wonderful are the ways of the LORD who loves all equally...and truly foolish are the ways of a man like me to feel left out. 19. Sikhs and Hindus Similarities : Quite a number of them , plus both started in India Differences : quite a number of them again. Actually some can point out more differences than similarities. One worth mentioning is that while most Hindus try to label everyone as a Hindu, Sikhs refrain to be labelled as anyone but Sikhs. Conclusion : must try to live together in peace (now many will deny this). Sikhs and Muslims Similarities : Many! Differences : Too many! Muslims teach their young kids at an early age how great their faith is and make them feel proud of it. Probably all other communities should start doing the same. Conclusion : Must start educating our kids about Sikhi. Then we won't complain that girls want cleanshaven guys and that guys are cutting hair to fit into society. Sikhs and Christians Similarities : Many! Differences : remarkably many! No other community is known to have done so much humanitarian work as much as certain Christian organizations have done in the past and are still doing today. Conclusion : follow the principle of Sewa and try to do more humanitarian work. Siks and Jews Similarities : Quite an appreciable number! Plus both have known persecution quite well enough. Differences : Some do exist, like circumcision etc. Jews are one type of people who are united more than most communities. Conclusion : Unity is strength. Remain united and dissolve all foolish differences! Purpose of this article : just an attempt to make people aware how much we can learn from other communities rather than pointing fingers at them and distancing ourselves from them. Yes it is alright to be known as what u are and not labelled as someone else. But it is a characteristic feature of wise people to look at good aspects of a person and filter out the negative portion. They look at the virtues of an individual, and try to inculcate those within themselves without being affected or bothered by the vices. Expected response : not expecting many pleasant ones, but still waiting :)
  20. First of all, for us as Sikhs, its quality that matters and not quantity. What started with one Divine Jot in human form has today illuminated more than 20 million hearts in a span of just five centuries. So lets not worry about numbers, as the inner light that pervades us all is One, and will never ever die out. Lets talk about diamonds. Anyone who knows about diamonds is well aware of the fact that a pure unpolished diamond in its natural state is not very different from any other ordinary looking stone. Only the few who know how to distinguish a diamond from another stone will be able to see it even in its natural unpolished state. Another thing about diamonds is that they are so precious gems, that people often hold more value to them if they are discovered rather than sold. A diamond bought is beautiful but nothing compared to the one that is discovered. People who sell diamonds don’t know the beauty attached behind them. What matters to them is how expensive it is. Now coming to my point. The diamond I am talking about is Sikhi. Only the ones who have the yearning to meet GOD, that flame of burning love within their souls will be able to recofnize Sikhi as the true and ultimate religion. That is the reason why even some people born in Sikh families never seem to understand Sikhi, while some who are born in non-Sikh families just fall in love with it. Those who know Sikhi is a diamond, don’t go around selling it at a cost. There are others who go around preaching their beliefs, making everyone aware of how their way of worship is the only right way, and some even offer to pay money to those who convert! This is the reason we don’t have anything called “Sikh missionariesâ€, because this diamond is to be discovered, not to be sold. PS : some misinterpret this way of thinking to mean that we shouldn't tell others about our religion and "wait" for aspirants. Thats NOT what i mean. All i mean is that we shouldn't go around bashing other religions coz thats unSikh.
  21. WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Saadh sangat ji, i have been thinking about this for a few years. Sikhi is undoubtedly a universal religion as it carries a message for everyone at all times. The reason i call it the only Indian religion is because we have 4 religions that have taken birth in India : Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism. Hinduism is sometimes defined by some people as more of a culture than a religion, although i wouldn't want to comment anything about this statement since there are people who stand both for and against it. Besides, i am talking about Sikhism here. Buddhism and Jainism have very little following left in India. Besides, Buddhism is recognised by many as more of a philosophy. Jainism, since atheist in essence, is not recognised as a religion by some other thinkers. Again, i wouldn't want to get into discussion about Jainism here. Please let me make it clear that i am not saying here that Sikhism is only Indian, as in for Indians only. NO. I mean to say that i feel it to be the only way of life started in India that can be called as religion. There are other reasons too. Hinduism has too many sects all over India, everyone of them different from the other. There are too many belief systems as well. Although we often may not find them calling themselves superior or true as compared to the other branches. Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh both travelled far and wide. What i find so remarkable is that on the Baisakhi of 1699, the Panj Pyaare were from every part of India. Delhi in north, Jagannath in east, Dwarka in west and Karnataka in south, plus one from Lahore. It wouldn't be wrong to say that the whole of India was represented that day. This is one main reason why i feel Sikhism is the only religion of India, and definitely a universal one. By Guru's grace, today we have Sikhs of all nationalities, and so Sikhism is not limited to just Punjabis or Indians alone. I read a message from a youth from UK on another Punjabi website's discussion forum. This man was a muslim and had taken Amrit and was really happy. I have also started coming across people who were born into some other religion and have adopted the path of Sikhi (one of them happens to be the one i see everyday in the mirror...hehehehehe), even though they may not have taken Amrit as yet. Just wanted to share some ideas. Hoping to get more enlightening inputs from the sangat. And i do stand corrected for any opinion of mine regards Guru rakha
  22. WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH a small attempt by daas to describe his feelings to Guru Sahib Thankless I am Thankless I am, for being totally blind Calling you cruel, although YOU were kind Thankless I am, for throwing all the blame When it was my mind that was totally lame Thankless I am, for calling them bad times Which actually cut the sins of my past crimes Thankless I am, for not understanding That YOU always give, and yet I am demanding Thankless I am, for not being able to rejoice And not knowing that every sound, was nothing but YOUR voice Thankless I am, for being such a fool Unaware that YOU gave me, every possible tool Thankless I am, for never apologizing Always drawing conclusions after senseless analyzing Thankless I am, for always complaining Crying for what I lost, forgetting what I am gaining Thankless I am, for whenever life was hell I lost my faith, and would cry and yell Thankless I am, I ran after this world Wounds and pain, that is what it hurled Thankless I am, as my mistakes are repeated My weak human eyes don't see YOU, so high YOU are seated Thankless I am, the most thankless one ever And yet YOU love and care for me, and forget me never WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH ~Rochak
  23. Dhann Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! This poem is for few of those Hindus who have completely forgotten the unparallel sacrifice of Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib For you He left His family, His son, His wife For you He didn’t hesitate to sacrifice His life For you He courted arrest, and suffered all tortures To fill your life with the roses of happiness, and joy filled orchards For you He saw His Sikhs sawn and boiled The hands of the Mughals with blood were soiled For you He refused all pleasures and comforts And accepted the pains that can shake all hearts For you He rejected proposals of wealth So that your generations could thrive in health For you He sacrificed His body and His head So that you could live fearlessly and earn your bread Have you forgotten all He has done His people you made the object of fun Have you forgotten the legacy of His martyrdom that to the oppression of His people you act deaf and dumb? Have you forgotten His sacrifice, oh so complete! That today His message for you has become totally obsolete! Have you forgotten that He is your saviour Or the Mughals would do to you what else but devour Forget not the One who saved you Protected your honor and carried you through Forget not the One who took all the pains Death for Himself, for you all the gains Forget not the One who had His head severed Today His people are mocked by you, instead of being revered Wake up my dear, before its too late Your silence and indifference is ruining your own fate Wake up my dear, or you will pay a cost Hatred will fume and all love will be lost Wake up my dear, and recognize this fact What He did for you was an ultimate act! Wake up my dear, wake up and bow down Bow down to the Master of Sikhs, the Sikhs whom you labelled a clown Wake up my dear, and say after me Say with your heart and you will be free Dhann Guru Teg Bahadur, tu Hind di chaddar Tu hi sadda sacha patshah tu hi sadda rehbar Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! ~Rochak
  24. This reminds me of one of my weird thoughts i have about the "bara bajj gaye" deal. The greatest number on the clock is 12. Therefore the last hour is 12. This earth/creation is also going thru its time/phase. So when the earth reaches its final phase of existence, there will be only Sikhs left.
  25. My parents are Hindus. When i was blessed with Sikhi, i used to recite pauris if Sukhmani Sahib. Since i didn't know much about how different Hinduism and Sikhi were, i used to do paath in front of the small mandir we have at home. It was after some 2.5 yrs that i used to do it in the same room but away from mandir. Not that i was fanatic about it, but i wanted to feel the Formless Parmaatma and not pictures. My parents have always supported my Sikhi and never forced me to follow Hindu practices once they were convinced that i was not gonna budge
