  1. I don't know if this is all planned, or someone is taking advantages of the loopholes in the Indian justice system, but there have been 3 cases of a Sikh's hair being forcibly cut in less than a week. First it was Inderpreet Singh from Jaipur, Rajasthan who was kidnapped by local goons and his kesh were cut. Today it was on the early morning breaking news that 2 more such incidents have occured. One was Gurdeep Singh from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand who was arrested on Thursday night, and the same night his joora was chopped off. He even showed his kesh on camera. Police say that he was arrested on criminal charges, but Gurdeep denies it, saying it was he who informed the police of the crime. The police also say that he has been arrested many times, and so to seek revenge he cut his kesh himself and is blaming the cops. The 3rd case is Jagbir Singh from Kurukshetra, Haryana who says he was drugged and when he went unconscious his kesh and beard were cut. He is almost bald now. Sangat jee, these 3 cases have come from 3 different parts of India, all from states where non-Sikhs are a majority. These cases seem to be unrelated, but in any case, it does appear that some miscreants are testing our patience. The scenes of Sikhs brandishing swords on the roads makes them laugh and they have decided to have some cheap fun by making such scenes a daily routine. The mere arrest of Arjun Meena, the culprit who dishonored Inderpreet Singh's hair is no lesson to these scoundrels, and I guess the Sikh sangat in India should make sure that anyone who insults our religious sentiments be made to pay a severe price so that in future no one dares to commit such an act. As you may be aware, a mere arrest in India can very well lead to release once the mouths of the officers incharge are filled with currency notes. Some desi methods vouch for a punishment in public so that all those who witness it can understand the consequences and keep away from doing any such acts. Perhaps that is what these culprits deserve. You can imagine how Muslims would react if some official forced pork down the throat of an Al Qaeda terrorist, and these are ordinary Sikh citizens we are talking about. It is time for action and avoid any pre-1984 kind of climate to emerge in India. Please do what you can.
  2. http://www.sikhsangat.org/publish/article_1299.shtml The police say that the Sikh cut his hair to seek revenge from someone who he is blaming for the act. These filthy scum bags don't realize that a Sikh will never cut the hair of his/her enemies also, forget about cutting one's own hair.
  3. http://www.samachar.com/showurl.htm?rurl=h...be~Shiv~Mandir' Shiv Sainiks object to Chadarposhi at Taj Mahal Friday August 25 2006 00:00 IST UNI AGRA: Activists of the right-wing Shiv Sena have raised objections to plans to observe the Urs of 17th century Mughal Emperor Shahjahan at the Taj Mahal, as well as to moves by a Raza Committee to place a shroud over his grave during a ceremony called 'Chadarposhi'. The Shiv Sena is of the view that no such ceremony should take place at the venue as it was originally the site of a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and only milk should be offered. The President of the Roza Committee, Tahiruddin Tahir, has claimed that the Chadarposhi ceremony has been going on for decades. He also disclosed that every year, the length of the sheet is increased by 10 metres and this year it is 120 metres. "I will be covering the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan at an Urs. This has been the practice for the past many decades from my forefathers' time. This time the sheet is about 120 meters. The name of offering the sheet has also been changed unlike the earlier occasions when they were offered by my forefathers' names. This time it is named as the Hindustani Satrangi Chaddar to symbolise communal harmony," said Tahir. "Previously, at the place of Taj Mahal, there was a Shiv Mandir and in Shiv Mandir we do not offer sheet. We offer milk to lord Shiva. We have been protesting that in Taj Mahal sheet should not be offered but the police have stopped us from doing so," said Binu Lavaniya, President of the Agra chapter of the Shiv Sena. He also said that as per the Supreme Court orders no political or religious activities can be held at Taj Mahal. The District administration has deployed police to ensure security, peace and stop the Shiv Sainiks from entering the Taj Mahal.
  4. Jaipur, Rajasthan: A 10th standard Sikh student protested when girls from his class were being were being harassed by some guys. As a result those guys forcibly cut his kesh. The Sikh student's father, who is an employee of doordarshan, and mother were saying that it would have been better had their son died instead of this. The police is doing nothing to arrest the culprits. Not only this the police is not even registering FIR. This whole incident of beating, tearing up of clothes of the Sikh student and then cutting his hair was done in front of the school principal Gupta and the school administration. The culprits said that this was just the trailor of a film. Not only this the police also threatened the family. Take a look at the pictures for yourself. http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?act=At...ost&id=5269 http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?act=At...ost&id=5273 http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?act=At...ost&id=5270 http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?act=At...ost&id=5271 http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?act=At...ost&id=5272
  5. A King named Suraj (Sun) had eight sons. The youngest of the eight named ‘Shani’ (Saturn) was from his second queen. He was black, ugly and lazy. The marriages of the princesses were solemnised through the rite of ‘Swaiamber’. Seven elder sons of Raja Sun got married but no one approved Shani for marriage. In order to show him fair coloured, his mother applied Vermillion on his body. Even then no girl accepted him in marriage. When King Suraj died his wife burnt herself alive on the same pyre. Lazy Shani would not even earn his living. Whatever grams was made available to him by his brothers, he would live on it. His sisters-in-law had named him eater of seven types of grams (Satnaja). Inplace of ‘ghee’ (clarified butter) he would get oil, instead of gold/silver ornaments, he would receive ornaments of iron or bronze and tattered clothes to wear. That was the way he lived. ‘Even after his death’ same articles are being offered before his idol. Hindu society believes that there are different gods and goddesses who can be invoked to meet their different needs instead of one Almighty–the Omnipotent. For beauty, ‘Ashwani Kumar’ (Son of a mare) is worshipped. For long life, ‘Markandey’ is worshipped; goddess Saraswati for knowledge; Indira for escaping from fear; and to keep ailments away, god ‘Shani’ (Saturn)* is worshipped. Since he was born to ‘Chhaya’ the queen of Suraj, he was named ‘Chhanichhar’. In Sanskrit, the word ‘Shanaichar’ maens who swims slowly.’ For staying in one solar house the whole year, he was named ‘Shanaich-char’ (Chhanichhar). All gods and goddesses have different likings of offerings. Some is enamoured by wine and meat while others enjoy pounded grains. Some deity seeks offerings of puffed sugar cakes and the others on rice cooked in milk (kheer). But to please god Shani, offerings of mustard oil, iron and ‘Dal Urd’ are made. In order to ascertain that the Sikhs have well grasped the principles of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh ji asked a ‘Vedva’ (Those Brahmins who accept alms on Saturdays) to come to his court the next Saturday in order to collect alms. Vedva thought that since he is going to Guru Darbar and Guru’s influence has spread far and wide, he is likely to receive handsome alms. Therefore he took a few donkeys with him to carry the load of alms that he was expecting to receive. So he reached before the door of Guru early in the morning of Saturday. In the jam packed court of Guru Gobind Singh ji where a large number of Sikhs were also sitting who had come from far and wide for the audience of the Guru, Diwan Nand Chand was asked to give alms to the ‘Pandit’. Accordingly, Diwan Nand Chand loaded all the items on the donkeys of ‘Vedva’. Guru ji also remarked, “Pandit ji ! the evil vision and spell of god ‘Shani’ should get dispelled now.†Sikhs sitting in the holy congregation kept watching the developments. Some lazy and not too bright sikhs did not feel anything, but many Sikhs who were well conversant with philosophy of Sikhism quietly got up from their seats and rushed behind the ‘Vedva’. They caught up with him in the fields outside. They asked the Brahmin where he was taking the goods. Pandit ji said that these were the alms given in the name of god Shani that has been given by Guru Gobind Singh to ward off his evil spell. Only Brahmin can digest these items. The Sikhs got everything unloaded there itself and remarked, “Pandit ji, we know how to digest all these items. You run away now. You can befool Hindus but not to Sikhs. Go away and don’t come this way again.†Vedva ran away. Sikhs took those items to the Langar. They grounded ‘Urd Ki Dal’, fried doughnuts of it in mustard oil and distributed them to the Sikhs in Langar. They made large rings of the iron and each Sikh wore one in his hand. When Satguru ji saw Karas (iron bracelet) in the arm of each Sikh, he asked the Sikhs why had they done like that. The episode was narrated in the court of the Guru. Satguru ji felt immensely pleased at the alertness of the Sikhs. Later on, he included the ‘Kara’ amongst the five symbols of Sikhism. Even today, it motivates us to keep away from superstitions and other doubts. Unfortunately our condition has deteriorated immensely today. Many amongst us who call ourselves Sikhs are strongly placing their faith in goddesses like Vaishno Devi, Naina Devi and gods like Shani (Saturn) and Mangal (Mars). It has happened due to inadequacy of learned preachers who could explain meaning of Gurbani. When we do not know what direction is provided by Gurbani, falling in to the trap of self willed decisions is natural. How useful it would have been had the Gurudawaras explained the meanings of various hymns instead of holding continuous recitation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Only then could they have given clear meanings of Sikh idealogy. There are some Sikhs who indulge in organising and holding ‘Jagratas’ (night long singing of praises of the gods/goddesses). They are very particular in bringing boiled grams to Gurudawaras as offerings to their Guru which is absolute self will and not approved in Sikh code of Conduct.

  7. http://www.samachar.com/showurl.htm?rurl=h...~Hearthrow~plot Four Islamic groups suspected to be behind Hearthrow plot Islamabad, Aug 12. (PTI): Investigators probing the plot to blow up several aircrafts from Britain to US, suspected the involvement of four Islamic militant groups including Pakistan- based Lashkar-e-Toyaba and Sunni extremist outfit Lashkar- e-Jhangvi. The probe revealed that funds provided by a UK-based Islamic charity for earthquake relief in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, (PoK) has apparently been used to target planes, media report here said today. "The links of the arrested suspect could not be confirmed, but the sources said intelligence agencies had put four Islamic organisations on the watch list and they included two UK-based outfits Al Mahajroon and Hizbul Tehrir, and two Pakistani organisations Lashkar-i-Taiba (LeT) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, (LJ)," the daily Dawn reported. Also Rauf Rashid, the British national of the Pakistan origin, officially identified as the key suspect by Pakistan yesterday for providing the tip off about the plot to blow the US bound aircraft with liquid explosives as the father of Tayyab Rauf, a suspect who was arrested in Britain in connection with 7/7 London bombings, it said. During the interrogation, Rashid Rauf unveiled the terrorism plot aiming to destroy at least ten passenger aircraft in the UK, it quoted officials as saying. The information was shared with the UK Home Land Security department that resulted in a raid in which 21 suspects were arrested in London on Thursday, it said. Another newspaper Daily Times reported investigations revealed that a UK-based Islamic charity group remitted a huge amount of money to three individuals having bank accounts in Mirpur, PoK in December last year with the sole purpose of helping its recipients and their organisations carry out the plan to bomb the aircraft in the UK. The links with LeT, which was banned by Pakistan, was disquieting for Islamabad as the outfit has already been blamed for Mumbai bomb blasts last month. New Delhi has been demanding Pakistan to take stern action against the Jamaat- ud-Dawa, (JUD), an Islamic charity organisation, which India says is the re-incarnation of the banned LeT. A day before the plot to blow up the planes unfolded in London, Pakistan police in a mid night swoop put the LeT founder leader and head of JUD Hafeez Sayeed under house arrest. His detention on August 10 was perceived to be because of pressure from India, though JUD spokesman Yahya Mujahid denied any link. According to Mujahid, Sayeed was arrested to prevent him from taking part in a rally planned to be held by the group on August 14, Pakistan's Independence Day. JUD, which was officially kept on watchlist along with another banned Jaish-e-Muhammad had officially been allowed by the Pakistan Government last year to take part in the relief work in the quake-affected areas of PoK and NWFP, during which the two outfit reportedly received and spent large amount of money for relief and rehabilitation. India and the US criticised Pakistan for permitting the outfits to take part in the relief work. When contacted for his reaction by the PTI here, Mujahid, who is based in Lahore, denied any link between Sayeed's house detention and the plot to blow up planes. He blamed sections of the media for linking the two. While claiming that LeT and JUD are separate outfits with no links, he saw no connection between JUD and the reports of misuse of funds meant quake relief for the plot to blow up planes. The names Lashkar and JUD appeared in the media during 7/7 bombings, as some of the militants involved in that plot reportedly studied in the madrasas run by the group. The detail of the plot to blow up planes emerged from the monitoring of Rashid Rauf's phone and internet for about six months, the Dawn report said. It said security agencies have so far arrested nine suspects and seven of them were nabbed on Friday from different parts of the country, including Islamabad, for their alleged links with the London terrorism plot. Other reports said 24 persons have been held but Pakistan officials declined to give numbers. Three of the suspects were caught from Islamabad Airport on Friday morning, but their identification and details of their destinations could not be ascertained, the newspaper reports said. Another four were apprehended from a village near Jhelum in a raid that was conducted on the information of the British High Commission in Islamabad. Out of the seven suspects, two have been identified as Mohammad Al Ghadar and Ahmed Al Khan. Several of plotters had travelled to Pakistan within the last couple weeks and had met at least one suspected Al Qaeda operative, most likely Rashid Rauf, the reports said. British intelligence agency MI-5 alerted Pakistani authorities about Rauf and his trail was later picked up by the ISI. The plotters were planning to carry out a dry run of the operation in the next days when they were rounded up. "Had the dry run that included an attempt to board the flights at the same time proved successful, they were to carry out the real attacks within days of the dry run", it quoted officials as saying. "It has all the hallmarks of Al Qaeda and Rauf has had linkages across the border in Afghanistan," they said. The Daily Times, in its report, said money has been transferred to the bank accounts of three Kashmiris in POK, which was later used to finance the operation to blow up the planes. The Muslim Charity of UK remitted not so long ago a huge amount of money under the head of "earthquake relief" to the accounts of three individuals in three different banks-- Saudi Pak Bank, Standard Chartered and Habib Bank Ltd. One of the branches of banks functioned from PoK because of a huge number of Kashmiris from PoK were based in UK. The reports said the money was transferred from the UK to banks in PoK through Barclays. Two of the recipients of the transaction are British citizens of Kashmiri origin, while the third is an Islamabad- based builder, also of Kashmir origin, the reports said. "They were arrested in the last two weeks at three different places in the country. One of them was arrested in Karachi, while the 'builder' was arrested in Islamabad", they said adding that the third suspect is still at large. "There are no available details about these three suspects with regard to their links with organisations such as Al Qaeda or Lashkar-e-Taiba or both", the reports said. Pakistani FIA investigators were apparently tipped off by the British authorities about the fund transfers and asked to investigate. Following their arrests the three suspects revealed some key elements of the aircraft bombing plan during interrogations by various agency personnel, they said. According to UK's National Terrorist Financial Investigation Unit, (NTFIU), a huge amount of money had been transferred from Britain to PoK for relief efforts two months after the October 8 quake. "Neither the amount nor the purpose for which money was sent caused any concern in the British investigation unit. What raised alarm among British sleuths specialising in finances was the fact that the entire money was remitted to three individuals, not to any organisation or organisations involved in the relief work," the reports said. The official, who refused to disclose the amount, however, said that the entire transaction was in pound sterling. "It is up to you to deduce. What I can say is that it was a huge amount. Had it not been gone into the accounts of individuals, nobody would have been bothered," he added.
  8. http://www.999today.com/society/news/story/3494.html Harvard returns Sikh students 'kirpan' The kirpan is an article of faith that was revealed to the last Sikh prophet, Guru Gobind Singh 8 Aug 2006 Navi Johal Harvard University has returned a Sikh student's kirpan (sword) as a result of the Sikh Coalition's intervention. The student, Navdeep Singh, had voluntarily given his kirpan to a university administrator who requested that the administration be able to keep it while the university determined whether he would able to wear it on campus. The student's kirpan was returned to him within hours after the Sikh Coalition's intervention. Navdeep Singh, a Harvard Summer School student, contacted the coalition on July 6 because an assistant dean requested that he provide Harvard documentation on the religious nature of his kirpan and any legal authority supporting his right to carry it. The coalition's legal director provided Singh with the coalition’s now standard twenty-eight page compilation of legal argument and precedent on the kirpan and the right to carry it. Navdeep in turn submitted the coalition's document to his assistant dean. On July 11, the dean of the Harvard Summer School summoned Navdeep to a 9am meeting the next morning. That morning, the dean told Singh that university officials had not yet decided whether he would be allowed to carry his kirpan while attending the summer school. He asked that Navdeep give his kirpan to him while university officials made their determination over the next two days. Singh complied with the request and parted with his kirpan. Upset, Singh called the coalition to request additional assistance. The coalition's legal director immediately placed calls to the dean of the Summer School and Harvard's Pluralism Project during the late morning of July 12. Staff at the Pluralism Project were able to pass along the coalition's concerns to administration officials. At approximately 3pm that afternoon dean Christopher Queen, lecturer on the Study of Religion and Dean of Students for Continuing Education in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, called the coalition's legal director to let him know that Singh's kirpan would be returned to him that day and that he would be allowed to wear his kirpan during his summer courses at Harvard. Dean Queen was kind and apologetic in explaining that university officials needed time to understand Singh's kirpan and the reasons he carries it. Singh's parents received a call from university officials to explain their action. He now proudly carries his kirpan as a summer school student at Harvard. The coalition would like to thank Harvard's Pluralism Project, dean Queen, and the Harvard administration for its prompt attention to its concerns. The kirpan is an article of faith that was revealed to the last Sikh prophet, Guru Gobind Singh, and made mandatory by him for all initiated Sikhs on March 29, 1699.
  9. http://www.samachar.com/showurl.htm?rurl=h...~for~kids:Study India 6th most dangerous country for kids: Survey India has been judged as the sixth most dangerous country for children in the world, according to a recent poll. Afghanistan, Palestinian territories, Myanmar and Chechnya were among the countries ranked as safer than India in the poll conducted by Reuters AlertNet, a humanitarian news website run by Reuters Foundation, Rajya Sabha was told on Monday. During the survey, the website asked more than 110 aid experts and journalists to highlight the most dangerous places for children. The first five dangerous countries are Sudan, Northern Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq and Somalia, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury said while replying to a written question. The facts that have been taken into account for the poll survey include the children involved in armed conflict, the psychological trauma experienced by children caught up in violence, the children living in poverty and forced to work to support themselves and their families and malnutrition among children, the minister said.
  10. http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle...ion_august4.xml Open letter to Bush from an Arab girl BY MIRA AL HUSSEIN 2 August 2006 President Bush, It has become extremely difficult to give you the benefit of the doubt on Lebanon, for you have left no doubt in our minds. We are now certain — like many of us have always been — that your foreign policy is completely biased towards Israel, and you have made no effort to hide this fact. Just out of curiosity: are they also drafted in Tel Aviv? It is your choice, Mr Bush, to support Israel, just like it is our — the entire Arab and Muslim world’s — choice to support Lebanon. You insist that Israel has the right to defend itself. Defending oneself, I believe, is a universal right, not exclusive to Israel. "The first Qana massacre did not quench the Israeli thirst for blood," it is said, graphically describing yet another Israeli crime against the innocents of Lebanon. In Qana, 57 armless, defenseless civilians died in an Israeli air strike, 37 of them were children. Maybe these numbers don’t matter to you, Mr Bush; they are mere numbers of the nameless Lebanese dead. But they matter to more than 200 million Arabs in the Middle East. I quote our late president, Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who in 1973 had said, "Arab oil is not dearer than Arab blood." But it seems that Iraqi oil is dearer than American blood. I am somewhat relieved to arrive at this conclusion. At least there’s no racism against a certain group of people. Everybody is a potential sacrifice to secure US interests, even if it means sacrificing a whole nation. No, Mr Bush, we will not accept, nor will we allow the sacrifice of more Lebanese civilians. A ceasefire should have been enforced two weeks ago. Was there a need for 37 children to die before you decided it was time for a ceasefire? How many more, Mr Bush, should die before you decide to stop sending those bloody weapons to Israel? Perhaps we can afford a sacrifice that will rein in your generosity towards Israel permanently. We have a dream for a new Middle East. Not the "New Middle East" that you’ve been brainstorming in your Oval Office. It is the new Middle East that Middle Easterners have been dreaming of; a Middle East with no violence, and no US-made weapons to fuel that violence. It is a dream only we, Middle Easterners, are allowed to dream and realise it. In Arabic we have a saying that goes, "They murder the murdered and walk in his funeral." Allow me to interpret this for you, Mr Bush: Your precision-guided missiles shipment has arrived in Tel Aviv. These missiles will "precisely" fall onto Lebanese villages; kill hundreds; and displace thousands more. (Evidently, we’ve just witnessed the first "precise" target in Qana.) Yet you have "compassionately" been able to send aid to Beirut, at the same time, with supplies for the thousands of people directly and fatally affected by your vocal, (im)moral and military support for Israel. Please include US flags in your aid shipment to Beirut; they must have burned all the US flags in stock. Mr Bush, Lebanon can and will be rebuilt, but lost lives cannot be restored. Your credibility and your government’s credibility have long been lost — irretrievably lost like those lost innocent lives. People will not forget this though. They will not turn the other cheek; they will retaliate — just like you had chosen to retaliate after 9/11. Retaliation is a value you have successfully promoted by putting it into practice, always. I was born too late to see how the British Empire had collapsed, but right on time to see how the American Empire is falling apart. Mr Bush, You will surely be remembered in history for hastening that process. 11. http://www.samachar.com/showurl.htm?rurl=h...~killing~Indian Press Trust of India Washington, July 15, 2006 A teenager in the US state of Alabama has been sentenced to life for murdering an Indian car dealer. Rickey Coleman of Birmingham was found guilty of beating to death Kavinderpal Banga, 44, a used car dealer. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Coleman was ineligible for the death penalty as he was 17 when he hit Banga at his Tarrant car dealership with a crowbar on May 25, 2005. Coleman and his girlfriend Nintonya Mathews came to the Banga dealership posing as customers while three other friends from a high school were waiting in the parking lot in what is seen as a scheme to steal cars. After murdering Banga, Coleman and Mathews stole the cars. The 18-year-old Mathews was given 24 years in prison. The three friends of Coleman were originally charged with capital murder but pleaded guilty to felony, murder and agreed to testify in the trial. Two of them, Terry Hardy and Randon Neal were given 20 years in prison while the third, Lemarcus Crenshaw, was given 24 years in jail after he lied during the trial. Banga had moved to the United States from India in 1990.
  12. http://www.samachar.com/showurl.htm?rurl=h...rug~traffickers NEW DELHI: For drug traffickers in India, Punjab appears to be the new gateway for smuggling in narcotic substances. Drug traffickers use the cities of Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Ferozepur, Ludhiana and Patiala as well as Chandigarh to smuggle in narcotic substances through Punjab, says a report published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). After Delhi and Mumbai, which have long been transit points for narcotic substances, studies have found that the seven cities in Punjab are increasingly being used as transit points in the country. "The cross-border movement of people between India and Pakistan could be one of the reasons as there has been a decline in the number of security forces guarding the borders," said a programme officer of the UNODC. "There is trafficking from other areas of India's western borders as well," said the UNODC official, who did not want to be named. She added that Jammu and Kashmir continues to be another area from where narcotic substances were being smuggled into the country. The report also suggests that the drugs being smuggled in from Pakistan were then smuggled out of the country via Delhi and Mumbai. The report further suggests that some of the drugs also go out of the country through Bangladesh's borders. "The drug trafficking trade has increased by at last 30-40 per cent in the last year ever since the cross-border civilian movement increased between India and Pakistan," said a Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) official. He added that three months ago the agency had arrested five people at the Atari railway station in Punjab on charges of smuggling heroin into India. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/article...358,curpg-2.cms "This was the first time we found that traffickers were using the train route between India and Pakistan to smuggle narcotic substances," said the official. "While these five were caught, we are not sure how many of them go undetected," he added. He said that 30 per cent of the drugs seized by them in the past three years were produced in Afghanistan and smuggled into India through the India-Pakistan border. "The only way to stop this menace is to increase the checking of passengers and by taking measures being used at airports to check drug trafficking." According to the UNODC report, over 20,000 cases of heroin smuggling have been registered in the country since 2002 and over 4,400 kg of the drug seized during the same period. The data for cocaine suggests that 66 cases have been registered since 2002 and over 214 kg cocaine seized in the past five years. The report also suggests that methaqualone, ephedrine, acetic anhydride and amphetamine were some of the other drugs recovered in the past five years.
  13. http://www.samachar.com/showurl.htm?rurl=h...~I~said:~Sushma I stand by what I said: Sushma Press Trust of India New Delhi, June 24: Under attack from pro-Congress Sikh religious leaders here for her comments on the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said she stood by her remarks that a Hindu courtier had little role in the execution of the fifth Guru ordered by Emperor Jehangir. She also received support from Sikh scholars who described Jehangir's courtier Chandu as a "small fry" behind the Guru's execution. "I did not concoct a story. I quoted excerpts from a book, 'Pancham Guru, Jeevani Guru Arjan Dev', by Satbir Singh. It clearly states that Jehangir was primarily responsible for the execution of Guru Arjan Dev as Sikhism was becoming popular fast because of its principles and teachings," Swaraj said. Her comments came in the wake of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Chief Harvinder Singh Sarna accusing her of distorting historical facts related to the martyrdom. "Is Sarna trying to belittle such a great sacrifice by linking it to a tiny courtier like Chandu who had some grudge against the Guru because he turned down a matrimonial proposal from him for the Guru's son," Swaraj said. Sikh scholars also endorsed Swaraj's views, which she had expressed at Tarn Taran during a martyrdom anniversary event that Jehangir had his own reasons for ordering the execution. "In a way she is right. There was a war of succession and Jehangir had to take a hardline to remain in power," Bhai Veer Singh Sahitya Sadan Director Mohinder Singh said. In his comments, columnist Mahip Singh quoted excerpts from Jehangir's autobiography in which the Mughal emperor mentioned why he ordered the execution. "In Tuzuk-i-Jehangiri, the emperor himself has used highly disparaging remarks against Sikhism and pledged to wipe it out," Singh said. Akali parties also threw their weight behind Swaraj as they criticised the DSGMC Chief for what they called "politicising" the Guru's sacrifice. "The martyrdom was not an ordinary event. It should be seen in its right perspective. There's no denying that it was the Mughal emperor who put the Guru to death," Akali Dal (Panthak) leader Manjit Singh, also a DSGMC member, said. The Shiromani Akali Dal also accused the DSGMC of attempts to create a controversy out of Swaraj's remarks. "Political differences are one thing, but history is another. It's sacrosanct. The DSGMC has tried to politicise a great sacrifice," SAD general secretary Onkar Singh Thapar said.
  14. Just yesterday on my visit to a Gurdwara in Dubai, I found out that the Government of the United Arab Emirates has made a provision for Sikhs to carry the kirpan. I am attaching a scanned version of an identity card a Singh gave me yesterday. Now I am not really sure how much authority such a card has here, but it has the authorization from the Consulate General of India in Dubai, and this ID card is given free to all who take Amrit over here. The date says October 27, 1986. The matter is written out in Arabic as well for Arab policemen to read it, in case they pull over a Singh wearing the kirpan. However, the kirpan is worn under the clothes and kept concealed. Nonetheless, there is a law that allows it. I was wondering, if Islamic countries like this one can make such provisions, why don’t western countries take such a step like issuing ID cards?

  16. sat shri akaal jee people I found this information on Yahoo Groups which I subscribe too. It might help you with this information. This is what veer Dalip Singh ji of Kashmir said about Science and Sikhism in his little booklet which received from gyani ji at Hazoor Sahib. Some extracts from a boolklet called A cursory look at Shree Guru Granth Sahib ( the treasure of Sipritual, scientific, cultural and musical knowledge) In the present age of science, new discoveries and inventions are achieving new heights every day. This progress has cut distances and remoteness. In this century, scientists have discovered 30,000 genes and other important facts, which have affected man's social life; and this process is still going on. Space laboratory is sending minute-to-minute information to the scientists. Man has set up its machines in space even at a distance of 310 million kms from the earth. It is really a great wonder of science, knowledge and human achievement. In the western world, scientific and technical achievements are achieving new levels. Technical Age has amazingly increased production needed for physical needs of man. But, we must realize that a scientist's field is this material world and they are simply ignorant of the spiritual domain. Five hundred years ago, Guru Nanak Sahib exhibited and revealed amazing knowledge of scientific truths (at a time when there were available no binoculars and the other instruments on this earth). Even today, only a few scientists have been able to understand just a part of the enigma of the universal reality. Guru Nanak's revelation about scientific and geographical knowledge has been vouchsafed by latest scientific research. All this proves that Guru Nanak had not only a great knowledge of the laws of the universe but also the mystical power, which enabled him to reveal such great facts of the universe, which the scientists and the other intellectuals could not even perceive due to their limited knowledge. Guru Nanak Sahib has explained mysteries of physics, chemistry, botany, physiology, geography etc. Hundreds of pages are needed to explain all this but in this article only a cursory look is being made. Gurbani explains most of the scientific facts discovered by the scientists even in the recent past. If we view Guru Nanak Sahib's revelations from fifteenth century perspective, one can be justify in calling him (Guru Nanak) as 'the first great scientist of the world'. It is tragedy of the Sikh nation that its leaders and missionaries have never tried to present this great aspect of the personality of Guru Nanak Sahib before the world. Some of the wonderful facts presented by Guru Nanak Sahib are as follows: There are numerous moons, stars and galaxies Before Guru Nanak Sahib, it was a general belief, even with the-intellectual community, that the earth is balancing on the horn of a bull ox. No scientist knew that there is more than one earth in this universe. Guru Nanak rejected this notion and said that if this earth is being balanced by a bull ox, then what power is balancing the other earths and planets? Guru Nanak Sahib explained that the whole of the universe is functioning under natural laws and every phenomenon is happening as per the command of God. The earth, the suns and the stars of the universe don't need any support; rather all of them are functioning in a system of gravitation of earth, sun and moon etc. Much before the scientists could discover, Guru Nanak Sahib revealed that there were numerous skies, neon-worlds, galaxies, universes, earths, suns, moons and continents. The scientists have still not been able to discover several of them. So many worlds beyond this world-so very many! What power holds them, and supports their weight? (Guru Granth Sahib, p.3) There are nether worlds beneath nether worlds, and hundreds of thousands of heavenly worlds above. (Guru Granth Sahib, p.5) So many Indras, so many moons and suns, so many worlds and lands. (Guru Granth Sahib, p. 7) Countless skies, countless neon-world, countless galaxies and countless universes. (Guru Granth Sahib, p. 1236) So far we have considered the scientific truth as presented by Guru Nanak Sahib as scriptures and not as scientific knowledge. But, now, the astronomers too have discovered millions of galaxies with the help of modern machines. They have found that every nebula is so big that it has millions of stars of the size of the sun, and, each galaxy has its own suns, stars and earths. When scientists discover new galaxies they find more and more galaxies beyond them. The scientists have almost surrendered regarding the mystery of the expanse of the universes. They just accept the Gurbani declaration that "there is no accountability of God's creation." Guru Nanak Sahib was the first scientist of the world who revealed that moon, stars; suns all are in constant movement. This movement is not in order but it is under the perfect order of the command of God. Earth circumambulates around the sun in one year. Similarly, moon completes its round in 28 days and the sun too revolves around its axel. According to the scientists, our earth came into existence about one billion years ago. It is impossible to calculate as to how many times has it (earth) taken around the sun. That is why Guru Sahib had declared that it is impossible to assess and there is no end to it even now. According to Guru Nanak Sahib, it is only God who can give answer to this question: In the Fear of God, the sun shines, and in the Fear of God, the moon reflects. They travel millions of miles, endlessly. The vast sky too is in his order. (Guru Granth Sahib, p. 464) The Creator who created this creation-only He Himself knows. (Guru Granth Sahib, p.4) Guru Sahib said that nothing in this universe, except. God, is permanent. Everything is in action and is moving towards destruction/ expansion. Only that is liberated for which Order has been written (by Him). The sky, the earth will cease to exist; only He will ever existent. Sun is moving all the day, moon is ever moving;and the million of stars too are in movement. (Guru Granth Sahib, p. 64) Ever existent is only He, says Nanak so. Kind regards Iain T. 23. I read the translation ages ago in childhood...lol...let me still try and someone please elaborate or correct me. Sharnam comes from sharan, meaning to take refuge. So basically its loosely translated as "I take refuge in the Buddha, I take refuge in the Dhamma, I take refuge in the Sangha". I may go wrong in translating Dhamma and Sangha, so someone else please be my guest .

  25. Adapted from the lectures of Yogi Bhajan. The Mul Mantra is a fate killer. It removes the fate and changes the destiny to complete prosperity. The first pauri is an antidote to depression. It will lift you from the deepest depression, insecurity, nightmares and loss. The second pauri imparts patience and stability. The third pauri transforms insufficiency, turns depression into elevation and transforms low self-esteem into complete self confidence. The fourth pauri blesses those trapped in feelings of poverty and lack of means. It blasts through the trap of these feelings like a thunderbolt from the blue. The fifth pauri must be recited when you feel a sense of failure within yourself. When you feel that you are not up to the job this pauri will grant you all success. The sixth pauri dispels limitation. Recite it when you feel limited, cornered, trapped or coerced. When you suffer from greed, madness for power, overbearing expansion and the need to control, when you become trapped in your territoriality, the seventh pauri will heal you. The eight pauri gives the power to be a perfect sage. The ninth pauri gives expansion. The tenth pauri grants grace. The eleventh pauri gives virtuousness. When you feel small, the twelfth pauri gives you solidarity of self, self-impressiveness and self-respect. The thirteenth pauri gives you the occult knowledge of infinity. It brings deep intuition. When you cannot find your path to life, when you cannot see the direction to your destiny, when you cannot achieve fulfilment, the fourteenth pauri will show you the way. The fifteenth pauri brings liberation. The sixteenth pauri gives knowledge of the structure of the universe. The seventeenth pauri brings freedom and resurrection. The eighteenth pauri fights madness, deep feelings of inferiority and self-destructive behaviour. The nineteenth pauri brings universal knowledge, inspiration and revelation. When the monsters are nipping at your heels, the twentieth pauri wipes away all your sins. The twenty-first pauri will maintain your status, grace and position. The twenty-second pauri brings victory in legal battles. It gives you strategy. The twenty-third pauri dispels darkness and elevates the self.
