  1. I agree with you that if family accepts then who are we? But there are families where Amritdhari's could have been drinking and their families have no problem about it but I don't think any sikh blog or site will publish the story of that guy calling it nice and cool
  2. amardeep,Dalsingh The question here is not who is marrying whom. The question is One of the quite popular sikh blog is portraying this marriage something as some kind of good thing.I could not have posted this news/story if I found it in newspaper or anything else but a sikh blog publishing and calling it a nice story is too much to grasp
  3. Glorifying Interfaith marriages http://thelangarhall.com/musings/just-a-nice-story/ The so called popular progressive sikh blogs are glorifying interfaith marriage of Amritdhari Girl with jew.I think many sikhs have adopted the western mentality of interfaith marriage even though they consider themselve practicing. In that case it is going to quite easy for muslims or any other religion to marry a sikh girl
  4. Not all Devi worshippers believe that Devi is supreme. Infact vashnavs also hold this view That vishnu is supreme Please read following link http://maavaishnodevi.org/mata_vaishno.asp Hindu's worship Vaishno Devi because they believe that Devi can fulfill their wishes quickly
  5. Kiranjit Kaur's ordeal is finally over. For 26 years, she ran pillar to post, from Patiala to Delhi, for her husband Narinderjit Singh's death certificate. Singh, a teacher, was killed on November 1, 1984 during the anti-Sikh riots that broke out after the assassination of Indira Gandhi. On April 27 this year, the Delhi High Court ordered the sub-divisional magistrate of Vasant Vihar to release Singh's death certificate with- in six weeks, after verifying the particulars. The death certificate isn't just closure for Kaur; with it she will finally be able to apply for compensation. “The petitioner has been waiting for relief for over two decades; there should be no further delay,“ the judge said. Kaur lost her husband barely a year after their mar- riage. At the age of 22, with a two-month-old son, she start- ed the long struggle for his death certificate. “I was new in Delhi. From policemen to babus, everybody deceived me. They sent me from the DCP's office in Tis Hazari court com- plex to the SDM's office in Punjabi Bagh“ Kaur told HT. “I saw my mother run around for the certificate,“ son Harsimranjit Randhawa, now a law graduate, said. “Once we get it, we'll apply for compensation.“
  6. Their are plenty of sikhs in cities who do this. They worship devi and also hear mata de bhajan.when I was living in joint family their were relatives who were quite orthodox yet they use to belive that Guru gobind singh ji actually worshipped devi because of their limited knowledge of Dasam granth and what they heard from Gyani's in Hemkunt or some other place
  7. Dalsingh The people who try to interpret sikhi from sanatan point of view should think of consequences on common sikhs of India on it.They should first think like a common man rather than an intellectual.Already in India many serials are showing strange image of Punjabi's,mainly of hinduised sikhs. They show them with typical sikh names yet they show their men clean shaven and women like typical sikh women wearing salwaar kameez They show them worshipping to Guru granth sahib and also worshipping hindu gods.these TV serials have mass following especially among women. If sanatan point of view got more popularity then I am afraid this is going to be the future of sikh community of India
  8. Well I don't support mocking of any religious figure but at same time muslims should understand that in order to get respect for their prophet they need to first give respect to other religions which they never give in their countries.
  9. Maoists attack bus in Dantewada, 50 killed n a brazen attack, Maoists on Monday blew up a bus killing at least 50 people, including 20 Special Police Officers, in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. The passenger bus, which was on its way from Sukma to Dantewada, was blown up by Maoists between Gadiras to Bhusaras near Chingavaram village, nearly 450 km from capital Raipur, using an improvised explosive device with gelatin sticks. The bus was thrown up several feet due to the impact of the explosion and body parts were strewn along the roadside, according to reports The attack, which took place at approximately 4.45 pm, was seen as yet another violation of Standard Operating Procedures which prohibit policemen and SPOs from traveling in civilian vehicles. The bus was carrying 30 civilians and 20 special police officers of the Jharkhand police, according to the home ministry. No Central Reserve Police Force trooper was on board the bus, said the bus. The SPOs, who are civilians assisting the police in fighting the Naxals, were attached to the Dantewada police. The IED was planted on a metaled road and detonated by the Left-wing extremists using a remote control device. The attack came a day before the start of the 48-hour bandh called by Maoists in five states to protest the security operations launched by the Centre. The home ministry condemned the attack and said most of the deceased were civilians. On April 6, 75 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force were killed when hundreds of armed Maoists ambushed their battalion in the thick forests of Mukrana in Dantewada. On May 8, seven CRPF jawans were killed when Naxals blew up a bullet-proof vehicle in Bijapur district. The Maoists also killed six villagers, including a sarpanch, near Teregaon in Rajnandgaon district on Sunday and threw their bodies outside the villages. Rajnandgaon district has witnessed a series of Naxal attacks in the past. In July last year, Maoists had attacked a police party killing 29 personnel, including Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Choubey. The Bharatiya Janata Party [ Images ], which is in power in Chhattisgarh, strongly condemned today's attack and demanded that the menace of Naxalism should be fought with full strength and vigour. "This is a barbaric attack and the BJP strongly condemns it. The government should further strengthen its resources to fight naxalism. This menace has to be fought with full strength and vigour," BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said the attack which showed the desperation of the extremists who were losing their support base. "This incident shows the cruel face of naxals. We have been saying this... when the naxals support base finishes they resort to such methods. Their (naxals) belief in people's representatives and local population has finished," the chief minister said, condemning the attack. "There cannot be police personnel in every village... there are 20 thousand villages. The security forces are moving forward in various areas...they are getting trained. We hope that in the future we will be able to enhance security in a better way," he said.
  10. I remember last time they only came once and all the questions were asked.I don't think they will come again All the questions relating to work, education, income,Goods were their in form. But their was no column for religion
  11. Today data collecting persons of Indian census came to my home.I filled the form for my entire family.I was surprised to see there was no column for relgion.Instead of that there was column for caste.I even asked the person is there any place where we should have to write religion and he said no.Its surprising because without religion in census we sikhs cannot even estimate our numbers

  13. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/World/US/Obama-says-Indians-buying-more-cars-/articleshow/5929243.cms WASHINGTON: Visiting Buffalo in upstate New York, a city that has been badly hit by the current economic crisis, US President Barack Obama did not repeat his 'Buffalo to Bangalore' rhetoric but did say the fact that Indians and Chinese are buying more cars would put a lot pressure on fossil fuel. Arguing in favour of public transportation system instead of depending on cars for commutation, Obama at a rally in Buffalo said mass transit system would be good for the environment. "Because one of the things, obviously, that we have to recognise is, is that no matter what we do, oil prices are going to be going up over the long term. I mean, year to year, they may vary. Sometimes it's four bucks a gallon at the pump, sometimes it drops back down to two-and-a-half," he noted. "You're not always clear what's going on, but the long-term trend is just because countries like China -- they're starting to buy cars and countries like India are starting to buy cars, and so the demand on petroleum and fossil fuels are going to be greater and greater -- we've got to get a first-class transit system," Obama said. "We don't have one right now. We used to be at the top. Now you've got China -- they're building multiple high-speed rail lines all across the country, leaving us behind," he said. "But it's not just transit. It's our ports, our airports, our sewer systems, our water systems. We're going to figure out how do we make those kinds of long-term investments, but do so in a way that doesn't increase our deficit, and that's going to be a challenge, but I think it's going to be a priority," said the US President. About a year ago, Obama had raised the rhetoric of 'Buffalo to Bangalore' when on May 4, 2009 he announced end to years of tax incentives to those US companies which create jobs overseas in places like Bangalore. "It's a tax code that says you should pay lower taxes if you create a job in Bangalore, India, than if you create one in Buffalo, New York," Obama had said as he announced end to years of tax incentives to those US companies which create jobs overseas. Instead the incentives would now go to those creating jobs inside the US, in places like the Buffalo city, he said. This was Obama's first visit to Buffalo after he became the US President. Obama said the economist might have juggled with the figure to declare that recession has ended; and the stock market might have bounced back, but he believes that recession is far from over as still a lot of people are unemployed. "Economists have all kinds of fancy formulae and mathematical equations to measure the exact moment that the recession ended. It's great that the stock market has bounced back, but if you're still looking for a job out there, it's still a recession. If you can't pay your bills or your mortgage, it's still a recession. No matter what the economists say, it's not a real recovery until people feel it in their own lives, until Americans who want work can find it, and until families can afford to pay their bills and send their kids to college," he said.
  14. A Delhi court on Saturday ordered framing of charges against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case relating to murder and spreading enmity between two communities. By CNEB News Desk, 15 May 2010 New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday ordered framing of charges against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case relating to murder and spreading enmity between two communities. Additional Sessions Judge Sunita Gupta allowed CBI’s plea seeking prosecution of Kumar under various sections of IPC after finding prima facie evidence against him. The court said that the charges under Sections 302 (murder), 395 (dacoity), 427 (mischief to property), 153A (promoting enmity between different communities) will be framed formally on May 18. The framing of charges will pave the way for trial in the case. The Delhi High Court had earlier issued direction to complete the trial within six months of cases relating to anti-Sikh riots. CBI had accused Mr. Kumar of provoking people against members of a particular community during the carnage that followed the assassination of prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, leading to the killing of five persons in Delhi Cantonment area. On the other hand, Mr. Kumar had claimed the accounts of CBI witnesses were not reliable as they had changed their versions a number of times. “There are contradictions between different statements and affidavits given by witness Jagdish Kaur. She did not name Sajjan Kumar either in her first statement before police on November 3, 1984, or before Justice Rangnath Mishra Commission and Jain-Banerjee Committee that inquired into the riots,” he had claimed. The former Outer Delhi MP had also contended that the case against him could not stand as CBI re-registered it even though a Delhi court had given him a clean chit, accepting a cancellation report filed by Delhi Police. The probe agency, however, had also sought framing of charges against Kumar for being involved in sedition saying he had incited people belonging to one community against another. Besides Kumar, other accused in the case are Balwan Khokhar, Krishan Khokhar, Mahender Yadav, Captain Bhagmal and Girdhari Lal. CBI had filed two charge sheets against Kumar and others on January 13 in the riots cases registered in 2005 on the recommendation of Justice G T Nanavati Commission which inquired into the sequence of events leading to the riots.
  15. We are not discussing who is more interested in amrrying NRI's Fatheror daughter.I am just asking you just IF a girl's father want to marry her to non practicing sikh or non sikh then what should she do? There is difference between luchee kurian and kurian who chooses their husbands. If a sikh girl finds a suitable sikh guy for herself and wants to spend her life with him then I don't find anything wrong in it. I don't think she should be called a luchee kuree. And Btw no one here is endorsing pre marital sex
  16. Indianism is despite having best resources in the world And much more powerful than opposition you just loose. We are doing this from the time of prithviraj chauhan. As far Indian team is concerned. The selection was very bad.Srikant is one of the most biased selector I have ever seen.He just give chances to tamil players despite their ordinary performence.Players like uthappa who were smashing in IPL were ignored while murali vijay and karthik were in team. Also India team went with just 4 medium pacers and was hoping that spinners will do the trick
  17. It has been said before but it's worth repeating here. John Arlott had written about it in 1948 at the end of a successful tour of England by Don Bradman's men. ""Australianism," wrote Arlott, "means single-minded determination to win - to win within the laws but, if necessary, to the last limit within them. It means where the 'impossible' is within the realm of what the human body can do, there are Australians who believe that they can do it - and who have succeeded often enough to make us wonder if anything is impossible to them. It means they have never lost a match - particularly a Test match - until the last run is scored or their last wicket down."
  18. I was reading comments on paklinks.com Pakistani's can't even believe that their team lost.I am so happy that I can't even describe
  19. I am not mixing anything with this story I am just giving you examples. It is a fact that for many Fathers marriges of their daughters are business deals.I am not going to be surprised if I see a father marrying her daughter to Rich hindu rather than marrying her to middle class sikh.In that what should a girl do,Happily accept her fathers wish or revolt. In that we all should forget about inter caste marriages as hardly any father would prefer to marry her daughter to another caste Well I don't think that gurmat deals with this issue.I think it is upto an indivisual to decide what is best for his/her sikhi
  20. We humans use being liberal or traditional for our benefit. For example in India truck load of sikh girls marry outside religion yet we need torch to find out how many end up raising children as sikhs.Women say that they have right to choose their husbands irrespective of parents wishes but what happen after marriage? Why can't they tell their husbands that they will raise children as sikhs? Just because it is patriarchal system? so before marriage a girl is liberal who choose to marry a non sikh .After marriage she is traditional because she have to obey her husband
  21. Best match of tournament AUS vs Pak.Australia scored 53 runs to win in last 3 overs.Mike Hussey played innings of lifetime
  22. On which site you have seen the pic?.The boys pic is published in Hindustan times lying on bead with his uncut hairs Going by this logic no jatt sikh Girl should marry outside of her caste as it could harm the honour of her father. Also practicing gursikh girls should not oppose their fathers if they want to marry them rich or NRI guys which are not much in sikhi
  23. To in last 2-3 years I read 4-5 sikh honour killing cases unfortunately in all the cases the guy was sikh sometimes a lower caste or sometime above case where their is no good reason. The girls like Gurveen kaur who should have been role model for today's sikh girls as they are willing marrying turbaned guys are killed by their own parents. It shows the sad state of sikh society and then we blame corrupt sikh leaders.
  24. The guy in this marriage was keshdhari and everything was OK.I don't know why on such a small issue they attacked the couple.Dal singh was suggesting that sikh relatives of that converted 15 year old girl should had smash that guy Well sikhs also smash Guys who marry their daughter but they only smash and attack sikh guys
  25. A newly wed woman and her mother-in-law were brutally murdered by the bride’s family members in what appears to be an honour killing in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district late on Tuesday night. Gurveen Kaur (19), her husband Amarpreet Singh (22) and her mother-in-law Kuljit Kaur were attacked by Gurveen’s relatives with swords and other sharp-edged weapons as they were asleep at home in Bahmaniwala village. The women died on the spot but Amarpreet, who works at a mobile phone repair shop, escaped with injuries and is battling for life in a hospital in Amritsar, the police said. Though there was no caste angle to the murder, the trio was attacked as the couple had a civil marriage three months ago without the approval of Gurveen’s family, who are into farming. Tarn Taran SSP Preetpal Singh Virk told HT, “This certainly looks like an honour killing. Although the couple had got married in court, the girl’s family, especially the father, had agreed to the marriage. But one of her uncles was against the marriage and that led to this incident. We have booked the accused and a hunt is on to nab them.” The attackers included Gurveen’s father, two uncles, three cousins and some unidentified men, the police said. As Amarpreet ran away from the spot, the assailants chased and fired at him. He was wounded in the arm and shot in the stomach. Amarpreet’s relative Nirbhay Singh told Hindustan Times, “Although the couple had married in court, things were fine afterwards and the marriage was solemnised again in a gurudwara. Both sides attended that marriage. We fail to understand how this happened suddenly.” Amarpreet’s father, Baljit Singh, an assistant sub-inspector with the Government Railway Police, was not at home when the family was attacked. Amarpreet could not be contacted as he was in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital after undergoing surgery.
