  1. Satguru Nanak on His first Udasi stopped at Bhai Lalo Ji's house. Here is the full story from: http://allaboutsikhs.com/gurus/gurunanak2.htm FIRST STOP AT EMINABAD Accompanied by Mardana, the Guru embarked on his mission and left his family behind. He made his first stop at Saidpur, now known as Eminabad, and there he met a poor carpenter named Lalo. The Master looked at poor Lalo graciously and he was blessed with Divine love and lo, he was a blessed man. The Guru chose to stay with Lalo for sometimes as a guest. The news reached Malik Bhago, the chief of the town, that a holy person was staying with Lalo. Malik Bhago was a corrupt man and he had amassed wealth through unfair means. He held a big gathering and invited all holy men including the Guru. The Guru, however, did not accept his invitation. The Malik then made a special arrangement for the Guru and requested him to come and eat at his residence. At last the Guru went there and Malik Bhago said,"O holy man, I have prepared so many dishes for you, but you are staying with a poor rpenter and eating his dry bread. Please stay with me." The Guru replied,"I cannot eat your food because your bread is ill-begotten and has been made with money sucked from the poor through unfair means, while Lalo's bread is made from the hard-earned money." This made Malik Bhago very mad and he asked the Guru to prove his point. The Guru then sent for a loaf of bread from Lalo's house. In one hand the Guru held Lalo's bread and in the other that of Malik Bhago's, and when he squeezed both, milk came out from Lalo's bread and blood dripped from Malik Bhago's bread. Malik Bhago was completely shaken by his guilt and asked for forgiveness. The Guru asked him to distribute his ill-gotten wealth among the poor and henceforth live an honest life. Malik Bhago was re-born with the Guru's blessing.
  2. N30: Sikhi comes straight from Ik Onkar Vahiguru. It is because of the liberal attitude of the Satguru that Hindus and Muslims don't understand Sikhi, thinking that the Satguru were Hindu or Muslim; or that the Satguru got their "ideaology" from Hinduism or Islam. These kinds of people don't understand the Satguru. Sikhi is straight from Paarbrahm Parmesar.Satguru Nanak Dev Himself says so to Lalo: "Jaise main aave Khasam ki Bani, taisra kari giaan ve Lalo!" As the Word of my Husband Lord comes to me, so do I reveal it O Lalo. (SGGS p.722) So there you have it, not from Hinduism or from Islam, but from the One Supreme Creator Being.
  3. Rupz: I suppose Rupz you mean how Saroops of Sri Guru Granth are published.I believe Guru de Saroop are still printed and published in Amritsar.I don't know though what the exact process entails. Perhaps someone knowledgeable can tell what the printing and binding process entails?
  4. Yes, interesting, "dazzling darkness" and all that.I wonder what that's all about? When divine light has nothing to reflect off of, then is it known as dazzling darkness? Is this when instead of experiencing, you become what is being experienced? The thing is, this "divine darkness" is not mentioned in Gurbani. We have to go beyond all of this conceptualising, intellectualising of Vahiguru.I believe only Naam will do that, once it is received ofcourse
  5. IDEAL SINGH: Buddham Sharanam Gachhaami = I come under the protection (sharan) of Buddha. It is in Pali language I believe. In my view Satguru Nanak Dev Ji and Gautam Buddha achieved the same enlightenment. It's too bad that the followers of Buddha waste their time over trying to intellectualise Ultimate Reality. Has nobody ever seen how the Satguru used Buddhist terms in Gurbani?Like nirbaan and sunn (shunya). Here are some examples: Antar sunnang baahar sunnang, tribhavan sunn masunnang. Inside is the Absolute-Void outside is Void, pervading the three worlds is Void Void. (Sidh Gost) Sunno sunn kahai sabh koee. Everyone talks of Absolute-Void. Anhat sunn kahaa te koee. Where is this Absolute Void? (Sidh Gost) Ustat nindaa do-oo tiaage, khojai pad nirvaan. Go beyond (tyaag) praising and slander, seek the state of Nirvaan. (SGGS p.219 line 3 Raag Gauri M:9) Har Har man bhaaiaa param sukh paaiaa, Har laahaa pad nirbaan. The Name of the Lord is lodged in my mind, the Lord Har has granted me the state of Nirvaan. (SGGS p.444, line 18, Raag Asa, M: 4) There you go.
  6. gurjit_sehmi: May have been yes, because I believe Jesus never existed. He is a Jewish(?) version of the dying and resurrecting godman before the Jesus myth like: Osiris, Dionysus/Bachus, Attis, Mithras etc.Check out: http://home.earthlink.net/~pgwhacker/ChristianOrigins/ http://www.truthbeknown.com/christmyth.htm http://www.holysmoke.org/hs02/mithra8.htm Read: The Jesus Mysteries by Timothy Freke & Peter Gandy Jesus and the Goddess by Timothy Freke & Peter Gandy The Jesus Myth by Prof. G. A. Wells Do tell me lalleshvari, do you believe Jesus existed?I have done quite a bit of research inot the figure of Jesus, and have come to the conclusion after several years of research, that he never actually existed. The Jesus story is a Jewish(?) myth. Did you know that Dionysus was crucified?Did you know that Attis (along with many other godmen before Jesus story) was born on the 25th December?Dig deeper.
  7. lalleshvari: Yes, lalleshvari is correct.Shiv-aa is Aad Shakti; "aa" = to come from. Shivaa = that which comes from Shiv; Shakti/Durga/Chandi/Mother/Maya
  8. Depression = dark, self-repressed state of mind Vairaag = dispassion Depression is brought on by being affected by negative life situaltions and keeping feelings inside and not expressing them. Bairaag is when negative or positive life situations have no affect to the inner-man.Bairaag comes about by Naam simran, and souldn't be brought on by force, this will lead to mental collapse. Naam simran first, and everything comes naturally afterwards.
  9. When you are in deep sleep (sukhupati [skt: sushupati]) you are in a deep comfortable darkness.Deep sleep happens a few times during sleep. We all know instinctively that deep sleep is a very nice state to be in.Deep sleep is a little similar to Sunn Samadhi mentioned in Gurbani.Only a little similar mind you. Also a baby spends 9 months in total darkness. To me darkness = rest and self reflection. The light the people experience during NDE's is Anbhav Prakaas (non-material/non-world light, Jaap Sahib). It is not the same as material light, which hurts our eyes.It casts no shadow aswell and is most attractive. It doesn't emanate from any particular discernable source too.It is all-sorrounding, and is like a loving mother.
  10. My own personal view on Chandi/Mata is that She also represents Mahat, higher mind.In many cultures and spiritual traditions, the higher mind, Mahat has been personified as a female entity. If we look at one of Chandi's myths, there is one where she fights a buffalo demon.I think it's name is Mahish, please correct me if I'm wrong. As I see it the buffalo demon represents the ahankar, lower mind.Animal mind, hence it being represented by an animal-demon.The ahankar is both animalist and demonic (attracted towards ignorant pursuits). Now, the Goddess is the Mahat. In the myth we have the Goddess slay the demon after numerous attempts. The Mahat slays ahankar after numerous attempts too.Again and again, ahankar gets the better of us, but in the end it is always slayed. In Japu Ji Sahib we have the following Slok: Pavan Guru.Pani Pita.Mata Dhart Mahat. Now "Mata Dhart Mahat" can mean "The Great Mother is the Earth" or "The Mother is the Earth/Buddhi". In many cultures around the world, the Mother is the Earth and the higher mind, the Bibek Buddhi. Many cultures have given Buddhi a femenine face. They say that Buddhi has a womb too, which can give birth to good children, ie good thoughts. The seed is Atma, Pure Consciouness. However Mahat usually ends up prostituting Herself to bad men, ie ahankar. She ends up giving birth to bad children, ie bad ahankari thoughts. Ahankar is the bad khasm, Atma the good Khasm.Meet with the good Husband and you'll gain the favour of the Father (Parbrahm). From kuchajji to Suchajji. Just my thoughts anyway.
  11. Shield Ji: Is Ashoora when Shia's perform their self-flagellation?That's pretty nasty, self-mortification and all that.A person must never do self harm.
  12. Were swords ever dual wielded by the Sikh Fauj? Is dual wielding taught as Sikh Shastra Vidya? What are the advantages/disadvantages of dual wielding swords? I am interested in learning dual wielding.I have a good grip on me.I have two swords in my bedroom already actually. One is just a machine made ceremonial thing, the other however was made by hand by my beloved Grandfather. It just sits there I'm afraid By the way, the sword that my Grandfather made has a straight edge, not curved, and the blade is about 2.5 ft long.It is full tang and fits well in my hand. What kind of a sword is it?Narsingha?Anyone?
  13. Oh dear me... Khalsa Soulja Ji, you should only criticise a religion (if that is your iccha) when you have studied it thoroughly you know. I know you got angry at the "Sikhism uncovered" post, but you shouldn't let it get to you.You should just worry about your relationship with your Satguru. You know that. These so called "Muslims" who have so much hatred for other Children of Vahiguru, they are Narakpanthi. There is an unfortunate trend of extremism and intolerance sweeping through Islam at the moment, but it won't last. Do you think Vahiguru is going to let them have their way?Vahiguru is playing with them. Before you criticise Islam, please reflect on the following Great Devotees of One Supreme Guru, The Good, The Merciful, who have been immortalised by Dhan Dhan Satguru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj: The Great Sheikh Farid Ji Shakar Ganj The Great Bhagat Kabir Ji The Great Pir Bhikhan Shah Ji I don't think it was a good idea to post your question on a Muslim forum, you are only going to cause more tension between Sikhs and Muslims. That was a bad thing you did.I have invited a Musalman to participate in this discussion.Maybe he will answer your questions if he wishes to.Sat Sri Akal.
  14. lalleshvari: True, I can't disagree with you there
  15. lalleshvari: The Satguru definitely were in Kal Yug, but that may or may not mean that WE are. Again, I'm keeping an open mind.I'm not swayed one way or the other, wether today is Kal or Dvapar again.Frankly, I don't much care, I don't think it's that important.
  16. lalleshvari: I'm keeping an open mind because it could be that the length of the Yugs has been wrongly calculated. The following is takne from http://www.yoganiketan.net/yogiraj/appendix.htm The current almanacs give us the Kali Yuga itself as consisting of 432,000 years instead of only 1200 years. The error, too, was due to the influence of Kali or the dark age when the human intellect lost the power to grasp finer things. Thus, Medhatithi and Kullukabhatta, two of the celebrated commentators on the Manusamhita were both wrong in taking the earthly years mentioned in the verses as "Daiva" or years of the gods which have never been mentioned in the Samhita in this context. The Mahabharata, in the Vanaparva ( Chapter 188 ) and Shantiparva (Chapter 231, Verses 20—23), and the Harivamsha tell us the same thing as the great sage Manu does. From a detailed discussion of all these sources the Masters have shown us that the cycles of human consciousness on earth move on in the following order: Satya, Treta, Dwapara, Kali ( the descending arc) ; Kali, Dwapara, Treta, Satya (the ascending arc). Thus we find that we have two Kali and two Satyas side by side, the one ascending, the other a descending one. We have just now finished 2400 years of Kali (1200 descending and 1200 ascending) and in 1969 are passing through the 269th year of the Dwapara era. Signs of gradual improvement in the general human consciousness were visible in the 1200 years of the ascending Kali. As soon as 1100 years of the ascending Kali were spent, the period of mutation preparing for the Dwapara Age started and finer electrical matters gradually received greater and greater comprehension from the human mind. If 1969 was the 269th year of this current Dvapar Yug, then it seesm as though Kal Yug was beginning to end and Dvapar Yug was beginning to begin in 1700.1699 was when Khalsa was established. You need to read the whole article to understand that we maybe actually in Dvapar Yug at the moment, not Kal Yug! :? :? :?
  17. Actually they are mentioned in Ancient Greece. The Golden, Silver, Copper and Iron ages are very similar to Sat, Treta, Dvapar and Kal Yugs. That's all I know.Maybe I'll come back with more info, when I can be bothered!
  18. Vahiguru is Parbrahm Parmesar.Paar-Brahm, Beyond-Brahm.When we talk of Almighty, we think of Vahiguru's might in human concepts, which is inadequate to understand the Might of Vahiguru.Vahiguru's Might is beyond might, so to speak.Beyond Almighty-ness. That is why we say Paar-Brahm, Beyond-Brahm, Beyond-Almighty-ness.I mean if might doesn't actually exist, then the answer to your question, lalleshvari is a non sequitur. You asked a logical question lalleshvari, but if I could put into words my answer, nobody would understand it  :? :stupid: So the answer to your question is: Man meek qweek, deek fleek gheet0yu304g50ghohlo4u904jgdfl :stan:
  19. About Sikh being a "unique race".What a load of nonsense.A Sikh is simply a student of a Spiritual Master. The word Sikh comes from shish/shishya.The title shish has been used for millennia by many Guru's for their students.Sikh simply means "learner". What about Panjabi Sikh?Well, as we all are witnessing nowadays, the words Panjabi and Guru Nanak da Sikh are increasing, permanently splitting away from one another. To be a Panjabi, means to be a drunken ignorant lout.To be a Sikh is to give your head to Guru Nanak Dev Ji.I see less and less Panjabi's sacrificing their selves to Guru Nanak. No need to worry though.Sikhi is about QUALITY not quantity. I'd rather have quality, rather than quantity any day. 1 Khalsa = 125 000
  20. Dear Mission_Impossible Ji, I take great exception to the language you used in your message: You know you've just contradicted yourself. Bunch of black skinned Dravidians?? This kind of language I have heard from ignorant racist thugs. If you are a Sikh, then you seriously need to look at the language you use, in describing other peoples of this Mother Earth. After describing Dravidians as "black skinned," you then say there is nothing wrong with black skin. Then why bring up skin colour? Are you not contradicting yourself? Fair skinned Panjabi?I've seen many dark skinned Panjabis. In my own family there are those who have light skin, and those who have dark skin. From light skin, green eyes, brown hair to dark skinned curly haired; these are the kind of physical forms that make up my family. My family are all of Panjabi origin. I think you are someone who hasn't been to Panjab. Black skinned indeed! :x :x :x
  21. Yoga = "to join" "union," there is another word, Yukt, which comes from the same verbal root as Yoga, which is yuj.Yuj = "to join, harness". So Yoga means "union with Ultimate Reality". As far as I can remember, the different types of Yoga are: Hath Yoga, Karm Yoga, Gyan yoga, Raaj Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Mantra Yoga and Bhakti Yoga. There's a few others I can't recall at the moment. During the times of the Satguru, Yoga had deteriorated into meaninglessness.I've looked into Yoga, Bhakti Yoga is the best.To submit to Vahiguru, that's the best Yoga. It's too bad my ahankari mind is still stopping me.I've got to tame this monkey some time
  22. I'm not into serious study of Sanskrit language, but I am quite familiar with Sanskrit vocabulary.I can read Devnagari (taught myself), but when I found out what is involved in serious study of Sanskrit, I thought "forget it".But I know quite a lot of Sanskrit terms. I think if a Sikh who is serious about Sikhi would be very well off from learning Sanskrit vocabulary. There's many Sanskrit words I've taught myself. If you are fluent in reading Gurmukhi, you'll have no problem with Devnagari (Hindi script). Some of the letters are pronounced a little differently, like: bha, dha. If you read Jaap Sahib you will find so many Sanskrit Shabad, aswell as a few Farsi. If you read Zafarnama you'll learn Farsi!I learnt a few Farsi words by reading it.You have to pronounce properly though, some of the letters a very guttaral, like: Khh, Ghh. Check out: http://www.zafarnama.com/Pages/Download.html
  23. Stell Bangle: YESSS!!That's the way  Show the jackals what a Lion is all about!
  24. As far as I know, Sarb Loh Granth is Gurmukhi translation/transliteration/interpretation of Indian mythology.Like Mahabharat, Ramayan etc.My mother is reading the Steek of Sarb Loh Granth right now, so I'll ask about her about it.I haven't read it, so what I've just said could be wrong.Again I'll ask my mother to tell me more thoroughly. One thing I do know, you have to have a tough mental constitution to read it.And don't read it after sunset. That's what my mother says.
  25. Dear jsb Ji, you said: I don't think it would be playing the role of this "God" you speak of.If by "God," you mean Vahiguru, then I would say that nobody can ever "play" the "role" of Vahiguru. You should all stop thinking of Vahiguru in the terms of a Judaic god, who looks "down" on us and doesn't want us to do certain things which might upset "him". Vahiguru is not a god, Vahiguru is beyond the concept of God.Think about it.I think some of you have been too influenced by Western Christian notions of religion and "God". Man will do what man will do, all under the Hukam of Vahiguru. What is good? What is bad?In 20-30 years time we will have highly sophisticated A.I that will be able to think for it's self, which will in turn lead to more intelligent A.I. There are interesting times ahead indeed.Don't be scared now
