  1. If u cannot define "rehit" then why utilise this term?
  2. Please see: http://www.sarbloh.info/htmls/epilogue_sikh.html
  3. have a look at the "Nihang" section on this forum
  4. "i've heard from a few learned elders that Harmandir sahib will get attacked again...the blood of the sikhs will be knee high (is the expression used to depicte the carange ) " -J Singh "Guru Goind singh Ji will have already taken birth by then, from here many battles will ensue...the rivers in punjab will become polluted with Hindu and islamic blood...Khalsa Fauj (in bana) will appear in their millions...the Khalsa rule shall come...Khalsa Fateh!! " - J Singh ...cud we have the references?
  5. Nitnem = to contemplate upon the Almighty every second of the day ...the aim of Nitnem is not ritualistic recitation of Shabad at set periods of time and then forget about them.....but to "Jap" (contemplate) upon the shabads, to do "Vichaar" (to develop further and create abstractions), and seek more... listen (not hear) accept (through contemplation and not blind faith) practice (through thought, not ritual) some more info: http://www.sarbloh.info/htmls/jaap.html
  6. Kalki Avtar is not a "prophet". It may be worth reading Kalki Avtaar within Dasam Guru Durbar for yourself Gurpreet Kaur and making up your own mind on the subject. The best and most detailed interpretation of Kalki Avtaar I have come across is that of Pandit Narayan Singh Ji (Dasam Guru Durbar steek) in Punjabi (8-10 vols). However, for a shorter, less detailed version, try, Dasam Guru Durbar Steek (punjabi), by Gobind Sadan (Jaggi and Jaggi) at www.dasamgranth.org (this version was done under the patronage of Baba Virsa Das Udasin aka Baba Virsa Singh). Note, that this version is incomplete as it does not contain all the sections of Dasam Guru Durbar, eg, Oogardanti Baani and Sukhmana Sahib...etc.
  7. Have a gander at: http://www.shastarvidiya.org/video/video.html Shastar Pooja begins with Shastar Namaskaran (salutation to weapons). This takes the form of physical movements (exercises, training), and vocal (jakaras, salutations to Mahakaal, Durga, Shaheed warriors of the past, jungi bolas, Savayas and Dohras from Dasam and Sarbloh Guru Durbar, insults to enemies, etc.). Each movement has a deeper spiritual meaning that is designed to focus the mind towards Bir Ras (warrior essence), and is not simply done for the sake of it.
  8. ...Havans were regularly done by many Sikhs, eg. Bedis...not just Naamdharis Whats the big deal about Havans just because modern mainstream Sikhs are to damn narrow minded to understand the concept of Agni and Jott.
  9. Kalki Avtaar and Nehklanki Avtar refer to the same being (refer to Pandit Narayan Singh's Steek). Does this mean we are "Hindus" now?
  10. ...there's only one way to find out whether chatka is "painful" or not
  11. The basics of chatka/jhatka and why its done and the misconceptions surrounding it: http://www.shastarvidiya.org/htmls/chatka.html
  12. Chandi pooja within Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa takes the form of learning Shastar Vidiya and respecting Sarbloh.
  13. Sarab Kalla Bharpoor Akali Guru Nanak Devji Maharaj wore a Seli topi during his travels... (see Janam Sakhis, Pracheen Panth Prakash, Naveen Panth Prakash, Suraj Granth). The Dastar only came into usage amongst the SIkh Gurus with the arrival of Miri Piri Keh Maalik Akali Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji (see Suraj Granth, Pracheen Panth Prakash, Gurbilas Shemi).
  14. Deep Singh, I'll answer those questions soon (I havent forgotten...just been a bit busy) kaur @ gurus feet, please have a read of the following: Jatha welcomes RSS into Sikh fold Tribune News Service AMRITSAR, May 9 — The Akhand Kirtani Jatha (International) and All-India Sikh Students Federation (Pir Mohammad) has urged Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh not to take any hasty decision on the issue of Rashtriya Sikh Sangat — an offshoot of the RSS. Addressing a press conference here today, Giani Baldev Singh, deputy chief of the Jatha, said that if the RSS expressed full faith in Guru Granth Sahib, teachings of Sikh Gurus and shunned communalism, it would welcome its activities. However, the RSS would have to consider Sikhs as separate nation (quom). Giani Baldev Singh further said that Sikhism had a strong base and hence faced no threat from the RSS. He said some forces wanted to derive political mileage by creating a fear-psychosis. The Akhand Kirtani Jatha (International) however, said that distortion of the holy scriptures by the RSS would not be tolerated. To a question, Giani Baldev Singh said that some forces wanted to "torpedo" the SAD-BJP combine by raising the issue of the RSS. If RSS propagates Sikhism as per the teachings of Sikh gurus and tenets of Sikhism it will be a welcome step. Replying to another question, Giani Baldev Singh said the SGPC should constitute a panel to reach a consensus on Dasam Granth — a holy scripture. He said the controversy over the Granth was unfortunate and the findings of the panel should be acceptable to all concerned. The Akhand Kirtani Jatha welcome the call of the RSS that each Hindu family should baptise its eldest son Sikh. "The revivalism of the age old tradition would broaden the base of Sikhism and strengthen relations between both communities, he said. The Akhand Kirtani Jatha also accorded religious patronage to AISSF (Pir Mohammad). from: http://www.tribuneindia.com/2000/20000510/punjab.htm#8 ...and Akhand Kirtani Jatha accuse Nihang Singhs of being in bed with the RSS. The truth seems to be surfacing gradually....who will survive?
  15. Actually, Vishnu has over 1000 names depending upon what attributes of Vishnu ur referring to.. (cant be asked to type them all up...) btw, having lots of names for someone u consider worthy of worship doesnt mean one automatically belives in "many Gods"...if that was the case, we ourselves wud be believing in infinate number of Gods should anyone read Akaal Ustat or Jaap Sahib
  16. 108 represents universal harmony and the elements thats give rise to all living things (Sargun) within Sanatan ideology. It also represents the aspect of Kaal (time), the cycle that determines the "seen" reality we live in. ..plus it looks good
  17. Also, Shivji Maharaj has 108 names too I'm too lazy to type them up here
  18. Main Entry: 1in·tel·lec·tu·al Pronunciation: "in-t&l-'ek-ch&-w&l, -ch&l, -shw&l Function: adjective Date: 14th century 1 a : of or relating to the intellect or its use b : developed or chiefly guided by the intellect rather than by emotion or experience : RATIONAL c : requiring use of the intellect 2 a : given to study, reflection, and speculation b : engaged in activity requiring the creative use of the intellect- in·tel·lec·tu·al·i·ty /-"ek-ch&-'wa-l&-tE/ noun - in·tel·lec·tu·al·ly /-'ek-ch&-w&-lE, -ch&-lE, -shw&-lE/ adverb - in·tel·lec·tu·al·ness /-'ek-ch&-w&l-n&s, -ch&l-, -shw&l-/ noun from: http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book...va=intellectual ..doesnt mention anything having to be recognised by any authority (Sikh, or otherwise) to prove that one is an intellectual.
  19. If you visit the Nirmalas, Udasis, Seva Panthis, and indeed the Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa, the first thing you will realise there is diversity of thought, tolerance for individuality, and promotion of Gurbaani above all else. There is NO preaching, only promotion of Dharam (righteousness)..there is no emotional blackmail, nor do any of these sampardas consider themselves better than the next..these 4 are four facets to the same diamond of Guru Maharaj's Sikhi. ...and these sampardas have all been started and/or blessed directly by the Gurus themselves...as such they carry Guru Maharaj's kirpa....something modern "jathas" and "committees" do not have...they have been started by individuals.
  20. dhariwalhs, read Treh Charritar for yourself and you'll see why Gurpreet Kaur's views are in contradiction with Gurbaani ...unless you expect me to do katha of 404 Charitars on this forum?
  21. Deep Singh...this is why you end up with personality cults, manmat, warped ideology, self-concited saints, incorrect interpretation of scriptures, gatka, shabads sung to 1960's film tunes.. etc etc Sampardahs (ie, those institutions with traceable lineages and blessed by the Gurus) ensure that as much as humany possible, knowledge is not lost or skewed.
  22. sidak, unlike yourself, I have made an effort to do some research before asking people for answers. Also, with regard to Banda Bahadur, the aim of that thread was to look for knowledge, not to start a personal contest as to who's right or wrong. Rattan Singh Bhangu stated Banda Bahadur never took amrit, hence me stating that fact on that thread, whether it is historically correct or not is determined by seeking what other information is out there, and coming to the best conclusion. sidak, for once, try to avoid whining like a child and stop making every thread a personal issue. You seriously need to learn the art of debate and discussion. I assume you are old enough to vote? At least exercise your maturity. Please make an effort to do your own research first rather than using me as your search engine for Sikhi. Im flattered by the attention, but I'm sure there are other ways to look for information. If you have nothing positive to contribute, try the AKJ forums. The reason for this thread is I am hoping someone will reveal some information that I have missed.....its not about who's right or wrong, its about looking for facts. In fact I am HOPING that I am proved wrong, at least it shows I have learned something new... I dont expect to get all my answers on this forum, and have asked a good few other people with regards to this topic. This forum is just ONE avenue amongst many I am using to gain information. I didnt realise I had to mention this just to appease the petty nature of some monkeys on this forum...
  23. ...my question still remains unanswered despite the wealth of knowledge revealed on this thread ..why is there NO mention of "DamDami Taksal" before Baba Kartar Singh Bhindrawaley? NO historical texts mention this instutition, not even the Mahan Kosh. For such a great historical instutition, it is surprising that none of the historical writers mention it in their texts either, eg, Rattan Singh Bhangu, Koer Singh, Kavi Santokh Singh, Giani Gian Singh Nirmala, Piyara Singh Padam, Kahn Singh Nabha, Sukha Singh, Bhai Gurdas Ji, etc. The Nihangs, Udhasis, Nirmalas, Seva Panthis, even Naamdharis are mentioned by some of these authors within their texts....but nothing about "Dam Dami Taksal". Even Piyara Singh Padam's text listing all the Sampardahs of Sikhi does not contain an entry for "Dam Dami Taksal". To the knowledge of the Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa Granthis who are experts in Santhia/Ithihas (eg, Giani Gurdev Singh ji Nihang, Budha Dal, Akali Nihang Narinder Singh ji, presently at Bhoparai Taksal to name a few), the first mention of the "DamDami Taksal" institution and their lineage of jathedars to Akali Nihang Baba Deep Singh ji is mentioned in "Damdami Taksal Ithihas Sankeph" written by the Taksal themselves....and even this text does not reference any historical text to confirm this lineage of Jathedars. So, could someone please assist me on this quest?
  24. Gurpreet Kaur, you refer to these people as "Gursikhs", yet they seem to be caught up in a dilemma regarding their attachement to one another. Perhaps another definition is in order? Or are we to admit, even "Gursikhs" are capable of falling in love and attachment? Is this compassion? Or lust? Or desire? Does this scenario mean that cyber-dating/online relationships/flirting etc. amongst "Gursikhs" is now acceptable? Or can one hide being the veil of a "Gursikh" image allow one to persue such actions?
