  1. Had a look at one of these kirpans (one of the lads brought his one into the Akhara). The blade is made of very good steel and can be sharpened well. But thats about it...handle looks tacky, cheap, and its not ideal grip for combat. Then again, the handle could be replaced by a custom one made from wood or resin with better grips and a less "I have a new kirpan" look - as long as the blade tang is long enough to be secured. However, despite this, it beats the "Taksali" and SGPC versions, and those distributed by the Sikh Missionary. Then again, a blunt spoon could cause more damage than the Sikh Missionary kirpans. The Budha Dal daggers/kirpans are still top notch - well designed, solid blades and handles, good steel that can be sharpened well, armour piercing, and come in a vast array of sizes and shapes.
  2. sin...depends on the quality of your guilty conscience.
  3. amrit, we have another team that will be documenting events at Holla... As yet I'm not sure if we (Nihang Niddar Singh and myself) will make it for Holla - we have lots of places and people to visit all over Punjab/Maharastra. The idea is to cover as much ground as possible in the time we have.... If we turn up, I'll let you know....
  4. I heard from 'some Nihangs in India close to Baba Santa Singh' that Nihang Niddar Singh isnt a real Nihang because he watches Sky One.
  5. ..well, just as well they didnt take the piss and ask Sikhs if they knew how to use the kirpan
  6. Its inevitable that people will adopt terms to define themselves - or their system of belief in order to distinguish it from another. Whether this is good or bad - matter of perception.
  7. Looks like terms such as "NanakPanthi" and "NanakShahi" are coming back into circulation...
  8. ..fanaticism...I assume that forgot Tapoban.org resides upon hallowed canadian soil?
  9. ...that was the point I was making (duh!). Feminists  Perhaps the descendants of Mian Mir not receiving a siropa is a blessing - who would want to receive a siropa from a murderer anyhow?
  10. Sikh, one who is constantly learning and developing.. ...if ur not a Sikh, ur going against evolution.
  11. This article, the previous one, and forrthcoming articles will be up on shastarvidiya.org in the next version (which I'm working on as we speak)
  12. ....is everyone suffering from schizoid personality disorder? Anyway, just a few queries: a) is 'shardha' alone enough? who can tell whether its genuine 'shardha'? c) does one require 'shardha' in order to fulfill a goal? Also, whatever happened to possessing skill, knowledge, and traditions? Logically, if a person has true 'Shardha' for Guru Maharaj, they will inevitably ensure that they follow the 'Hukam' of the Guru (..and understand that kirtan is sung in Raags, correct protocol is followed, etc etc) so as not to offend Guruji, Sadh Sangat and Guru Khalsa. This modern day use of terms such as 'Shardha' appear in many cases to be an excuse not to follow Maryada. Then again, if one feels they need to sit on stage to reveal how much 'Shardha' they have, then who can argue with that...
  13. Lame attacks? Calm down - no need to get so touchy. For a minute there I thought I was addressing a hairdresser. Nothing is normal when it comes to Nihangs - I thought that was common knowledge. You are looking to categorise answers in little boxes marked 'black' and 'white'. Sorry but that approach is what has let you down. If I'm a hypocrite, then thats fine - as long as YOU are genuine then nothing else should matter. Allow others the freedom to be hypocrites. If you read my replies, you should be able to deduce the answers for yourself - unless they happen to be too cryptic for you to decipher.
  14. Firstly, its very ill advised to go around asking Nihangs about their sexual preferences. Whatever the case, they will rip you a new ass. On a personal note, I have better things to do than start an investigation as to who is a homosexual and who isnt amongst the Nihangs. As long as I'm not asked on a date or touched up, and the homosexuals keep to themselves, its all good. Nihangs acknowledge the existance of small threads of homosexuality amongst the Nihang Dals - but as yet, village hangings and lenching of homosexuals and lesbians has not occured. This is because Nihangs, although vicious in some aspects, are also tolerant and compasionate beings  We are aware that certain people would love to think that the Nihangs of the UK are twinkies, because to them this would mean we are automatically 'lesser beings' - according to their 'Gursikh Grading System'. Perhaps these people should spend their precious time organising the next riot and writing out another death threat  Sexual preferences and attitudes are a result of time, space, circumstance and Guru Kirpa. God is in everyone - even homosexuals, bisexuals, transexuals and lesbians.
