  1. sorry, i don't think he does refute daljit singh in his paper - unless you seem to have read something everyone else has missed ? your opinion is irrelavant :roll:
  2. lol @ see jeevan deol - he hasn't published anything other than one essay at harvard, which does not refute daljit singh, and unless you have read his PhD thesis, which i very much doubt, which of his published work are you referring to ? also, which piara singh paddam essay/book are you referring to ? no point in telling me names without actually mentioning how they proved daljit singh wrong.
  3. so what if they question dasam granth ? i'm sure they have their reasons for doing so. see daljit singh's essay for some examples.
  4. this 'gurudwara' was only discovered around 50 years ago by any army captain or something, who apparently had 'darshan' of guru gobind singh ... :? sounds a bit dubious, but some claim reference to hemkunt in dasam granth confirms it authenticity.
  5. how does the message of "meditating with each breath" equate to a specific "breathing technique" ? some weird logic going on there.

  7. giving the name "singh" 13 years before guru gobind adopted the name himself sounds a little strange . some specific references from those texts please...they are quite large :wink:

  9. some references would be helpful. also, what specifically do you mean when you talk about "sikh tradition" ( i assume you have written this piece). the five people you say who were sent by guru gobind to venaras in 1686 - they all seem to have "singh" in their names, so what were their names before they took amrit ?

  13. Neo Singh, that shabad was by Bhatt Gayandh in Svaiyay Mehl 5 on Pannaa 1402 (just type in 'kundalini' in the search option on www.sikhitothemax.com, and it comes up with a few more shabads...make your own mind up)
  14. lalleshvari - what specific forms of meditation are recommended in the guru granth sahib ? your reasoning suggests that since reading and reflecting on gurbani isnt sufficient to constitute 'meditation' (in your opinion) then surely the guru's would have realised that they need to let people know that they were only 'reading a map', and would hence need to let people know what the 'path' was ... ? neo singh : there's a line from guru granth sahib that states the 'kundalini' can be aroused merely by sitting in sadh-sangat, and as such, there is no need whatsoever to sit in any postures or make any physical exertions (which is what kundalini yoga ppl like yogi bhajan do)
  15. so lalleshvari - do you expect me to individually search journals covering south asian studies and attempt to find some articles you might have written ? all i ask, since i'm not psychic, is if you actually have any published work at all, and if so, where can one find it. I'm sure that as a scholar, you actually want your work to be read in the public domain ? If you're not a scholar, then that's fine too, but atleast give a straight answer to a pretty simple question. jsb: if lalleshvari had said "i've published some work, but don't have the time to list it", that would have been fair enough - but a response such as "soon my friend in due time", quoted from the exorcist for some strange reason known to lalleshvari only isnt acceptable for me.
  16. lalleshvari/bahadar singh - why the delay tactic ? surely there can't be much effort involved in simply giving the names of journals that you've contributed to already ?
  17. [apologies in advance for not creating a separate discussion thread !] lalleshvari (or bahadur singh), i'm not interested in 'you', but rather your academic work. Since you normally seem quick to point out the fallacies in others for not applying scholarly rigour, i'm sure you could provide samples of your work showing how it should really be done. after all, if you regard yourself as a scholar, then surely there's no reason why you shouldn't make your work available for others to see, is there ? If your work isn't available on the net, then perhaps you could refer us to some journals/periodicals you may have contributed to ? GurFateh!

Since you claim to be an academic, would it be possible for you to provide url links to some of your academic work (i'm sure you must have written some research papers! ), just so that we can gain an idea of your perspective into indian and/or sikh studies. Out of curiosity, which university/college did/do you teach/lecture at ? GurFateh!

  20. The only obvious thing is that you're unwilling (or maybe unable, since your Gurdev is away in the Big Apple) to answer even the most simple questions from non-AKJ indivduals. I recall Bikramjit Singh posed a question about the prefix "Akali" that you use for Guru Nanak at shastarvidiya.org and sarbloh.info ... and other than telling us that you were in the process of writing a 'lekh', there has been no response of note. the fact you're still in the process of writing this 'lekh' indicates you hadn't actually conducted any research regarding this issue at the time of writing the websites - doesnt that violate your golden principle of always backing up any claims you make on the website ? since you always trumpet on about producing FACTUAL EVIDENCE blah blah blah, shouldn't you remove all references to "akali guru nanak" from the sites until you CAN actually provide those historial references, or is this another instance of shifting the goalposts ? Additionally, I asked about the minimum age requirement to initiate into the Budha Dal - pretty simple question right ? Surely you would know since you claim to be a part of the Dal. GurFateh!
  21. Narsingha - according to Budha Dal tradition (oral, scriptural etc etc), what was the minimum age one had to be before he could become a part of the Budha Dal ? Unless the age stipulation has changed since the creation of the Budha and Tarna Dal's (in which case you should explain why this was changed and which of the Jathedars authorised it), aren't you a little too young to be part of the Budha Dal ?

NarSingha, can you confirm (or deny) that you are "Brown Cookie" who used to post on www.barficulture.com some months ago ( since this "Brown Cookie" also claimed to be the creator of www.sarbloh.info and www.shastarvidya.org), and issued a 'challenge' to the creator of the said site, who incidently never claimed to be a sikh, let alone an amritdhari singh. if you are the same "Brown Cookie", then how does issuing challenges to non-sikhs fit in with your 'khalsa maryada', since the whole point is to enable both participants to improve their martial combat skills - but in this case, one of the participants was neither a sikh, nor a proclaimed warrior, nor indeed was he interested in physical confrontation. moreover, this "Brown Cookie" went to great lengths to explain the legality of his 'challenge' under UK law, (which incidently i couldn't find in the archives on barficulture.com...i wonder who deleted them ?). Also, would you care to explain how the legality of Bikramjit Singh's one-on-one challenge, is different from your (and Niddar Singh's) Hadh Torh challenge(s), other than you seem to want people to visit your akhara. Does the akhara provide some sort of immunity from legal prosecution if people are injured/killed ? Or perhaps because you feel safer with your chums to back you up just incase it looks like your nihang 'bravado' is about to be exposed ?
