  1. Mustard oil. if you soak you kanga in mustard oil then the wood contracts and the kanga becomes softer. this makes combing your hair easier and also washes out and impurities in the varnish used to make the kanga. it may smell for a while though. but that will go with time Mustard Oil, savier of all world problems.
  2. Aman, if you do not mind me asking, can you pls tell us where you are from. In england, i give the caste system to be around for two more generations MAX, if not one. The reason for this is that, the sikhs who are religious will hopefully teach their children sikhi, and those that are not religious will slowly die out of sikhi. so, if you are into sikhi and force into a caste, I have one wish from you, do not force you child.
  3. haw, if you can vote more than once, then the poll is not correct. :x
  4. hi, i need a copy of guru granth sahib in romanised english. can someone send me a copy or provide a link.
  5. I had to spoil it. I voted for Bhangra.
  6. I feel that it is fair to say, that much of the older generation did not take their sikhi to another level because they had other intension such as raising the family making money etc. We are fortunate enough to be at a stage where hopefully money is not to be a big problem. (But it probably will ) To right off the older generation is wrong as they will appoint the leaders in most gurdwara's etc. Keep it sweet with them. Nod and smile. When you get the power, feel the power to do something good. And this will come with wahegurus grace. lets learn as much good as we can from the older generation. They have lived in the world and have experience. But the question arsises is, how to start??? (we've made a start, but now comes crunch time. The do's will emerge whilst others will fade) If you are at school, as the principle, dean etc about doing an activity relating to sikhi. This will start a good relationship with you pripciple/dean. We could, in fact as to do a charity event. Eg, sponser bike ride (been done in england), feed the homeless etc....
  7. here is a good link to the understanding of the structure of sggs. http://allaboutsikhs.com/articles/guru_granth_sahib.htm i can't remeber if it has the compete numbering thing. But i will try to get it.
  8. Fateh Joga Singh, i agree that if people can meet cool, but we are all in differnt parts of the world. Im from england. Let use the tech, emails, wap, texts as well as meeting up. But what is to be the aim. I replied to a PM by FatehSingh saying that we should start small, then slowly grow. if people want my msn, just PM me.
  9. The image of the elder sikh generation is narrow mindied. Im 21 yrs old. The elder generation mostly, (not all) have not set us a good image. We need to break this image of sardars being thick etc. We are not, we have some of the most intellect people among us. We are the first to publish out religious book on the net. A sardar invented Fibre Optics. We are indeed very smart people. Also this image of a clean shaven sikh, got to chage the image, we need to show people that sardars are cool, we know how to chat to others, chill out and yet still be happy in our reht. To break this is not going to be easy. But if you think about it, get all the good knowledge from the elder generation, cos when they die, they will hopefully take that image. We can set up a better image, We have already done so by eliminating caste. Im sure that most sikhs here will not care what "caste" their children will marry. So slowly, in one or two generations lets change this image. In the meantime expand your understanding of Sikhi. Learn, if someone asks a question, no matter how dumb, lets try to get some answers rolling. This is an excellent place to do that, as we can deeper our understanding. sorry for the long post.
  10. Why waste time telling people how to live, they have a brain, let them think for themselves. There is no need to tell poeple to do this or that. They will do whatever they want to. esp in this day and age. Who cares if he eats, you not eating it. the Truth is always the truth, why should we worry about what other people think, if he is setting a bad example, then the clever people will know. Survival of the fittest.
  11. go to this link http://www.dasamgranth.org/dasamgranth/translations/ It in not the complete dasam granth but a lot is there to keep you busy.
  12. the guru granth sahib is the truth the truth is neither created or destoryed. so we do not need to preserve it as it will always be around. It has always been around.
  13. Victory of Mind by defeating Mind. (odd but read on) that is a wild guess, dont quote me on that. But from my understanding to win the mind is to defeat it by giving it to the guru. that way we (the guru and i) win. could be pure rubbish. But im sure that we dont need to search or look up all answers, we must feel confindent that we know something.
  14. if you keep you cursor on the pic, it tell you that it is a sikh. that dont mean what they did is right. It is a very badly structured artical.
  15. Unfortunatly this is true. I know of one case. Not sure if it is common, i doubt it
  16. Is it not only the body that contains the sex the atma is the same in all. So therefore it shouldn't matter if you are gay or lesbian. (now the joking part of the meg is here, so pls people learn to laugh so you dont take offense) BUT.... if you want a family, its a bit hard for a man to get pregnant, so lesbians are Ok. We all should become Lesbians. Joke. If some is happy bonking the same sex, who cares. Were not doing it.
  17. you should work becasue you want to do it Not because you are forced, or think that you will get a reward, or a piece of paper at the end. at the end you die with nothing. but the memory is passed on through your atma. It is linked somehow, so reading or Tupsia in your last life will be followed through.
