Vidya simply means knowledge - stemming from the sanskrit Ved. In Sikh circles, the term is used for example to talk about the knowledge of war (weapons) and Religion (Texts) Shastar and Shaastar Vidya. Traditional Indian medicine is termed Ayurved - (Ved-Vidya). Knowldge of Raags is termed Raag Vidya. The terms is usually used in the context or classical Indian Arts and Sciences (and Philosophies).
