Badal Approves Rs. 16 Crore As Corpus Fund For Maharaja Ranjit Singh Institute For Military Training

CHANDIGARH : To make the upcoming Maharaja Ranjit Singh Preparatory Institute for Military Training at Mohali financially viable, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today approved a corpus fund of Rs.16 crore.

While reviewing the progress of the prestigious institute here at Punjab Bhawan this morning, the Chief Minister directed the finance department to immediately release a sum of Rs.5 crore as corpus fund during this fiscal and the remaining Rs.11 crore to be released subsequently in the next financial year. The Chief Minister also asked the Director of the institute Maj. Gen. (Retd.) BS Grewal to immediately convene a general body meeting of the institute to finalize the modalities for its maiden session likely to begin from April 18, 2011.

Grewal apprised the Chief Minister that the interview process would soon commence on the basis of the merit in the entrance test conducted last week. He said that the construction of the institute under first phase would be completed by 10th February and also put forth a detailed proposal for the construction of second phase to be executed by PUDA with the facilities of auditorium, two class rooms, swimming pool,

basket ball court, indoor games facilities, cafeteria, director's residence etc. He also

urged Badal to immediately release Rs.75 lakh to meet out recurring expenditure to which the Chief Minister gave his nod and asked the Principal Secretary Finance to immediately sanction the requisite amount.

The Chief Minister also asked the Director to ensure that the best talent amongst the students should be trained for the armed forces in the institute for which the state government was committed to provide all possible help to make it one of the most prestigious Army training institutes in the country.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by his Principal Secretary DS Guru, Additional Principal Secretary Gaggandip Singh Brar besides the Principal Secretary Employment Generation DS Jaspal.
