Dubai: Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was betrayed by his deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri who led US forces to his hideout as the two were involved in an intense power struggle, a Saudi newspaper has reported.

The two top al Qaeda men had differences and the courier who led US forces to bin Laden was working and had more loyalties for Zawahiri, al Watan newspaper reported quoting Arab sources.

"The Egyptian faction of al-Qaeda led by Zawahiri was de facto running the militant group, after bin Laden was taken ill in 2004 and they were trying to take full control," the paper said.

The courier was a Pakistani national and not a Kuwaiti as the US suspected and the man knew he was being followed but disguised the fact.

The paper claimed it was Zawahiri's faction which had persuaded Osama to leave tribal areas close to Afghanistan-Pakistan border to take shelter instead in Abbottabad, where he was finally killed by US SEALs on Monday.

The plan to dispose off bin Laden had been hatched by a prominent al-Qaeda commander Saif al Adel of Egyptian descent, who returned to Pakistan from Iran, last autumn.

Al Adel had reportedly escaped to Iran escorting Osama's other son and family members after 9/11.

Al-Adel is a member of the majlis al shura of al-Qaeda and a member of its military committee, and he provided military and intelligence training to members of al-Qaeda and Egyptian Islamic Jihad in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Sudan, and to anti-UN Somali tribes.

This report seems more like a conspiracy theory. Zawahiri had no reason to kill Bin Laden. In fact, Al Qaida as an organization is almost finished as it is. All of it's members are on the run or hiding rather then planning terrorist attacks. Rather then Al Qaida of Osama, groups that owe allegiance to AL Qaida or groups which are using the Al Qaida brand name all over the world are more dangerous then the original Al Qaida itself of Bin Laden and Zawahiri.

Now that Osama Bin Laden is dead, what are the 150,000 NATO forces still doing in Afghanistan considering the fact that they were there to find Osama dead or alive. Now that the purpose of their invasion has been fulfilled they need to leave Afghanistan alone and focus their combined resources on what really matters "the economy".

Does USA and Europe really need 150000 force just to find one man? did osama had so much control over al qaeda that after his death terrorism will stop?As far forces are concerned USA has 600 billion dollar army budget.can anyone even explain that why a country with no border threat need this type of defence budget?

They are interested in only 1 natural resource and that is OIL .I think it is because they have created artificial lifestyle for their people which is practically unsustainable so people are going to vote for only those politician

which will help them to sustain that lifestyle so leaders have no choice.
