BTW, those seeking answer for the question posed in the original post should look at the matrimonial ads in Punjabi and other language newspapers in punjab/north India. there is an overwhelming demand for "clean-shaven" Sikh boys followed by their caste. Seriously, if people are going to blame 'Hindu culture' for the problem under discussion, you aren't helping with the serious problem of grooming and abuse, and general promiscuity.

This isn't a simple straight forward issue. Girls acting like hoes was enough of a problem in the past that the (by far) largest section of the Dasam Granth alludes to it. (In my opinion) a part of the equation is the fact that many Sikh males today have become emasculated timid pajamas making other more virile men (from other communities) look more attractive to apneean. Plus we are a liberal community (for better or worse) compared to most other brown races - and this has an impact too. I could go on.

if parents focus on teaching their children morals character and integrity

take the time to make sure their children learn sikhi

treat both children equally and focus on building their confidence and instilling responsibilities at a young age

I have to say to the critics:

Despite all our shortcomings, you have to say, Sikhs did more than ANY community in highlighting sexual abuse by Pakistani Muslims in the UK. This was an issue that was swept under the carpet by social services, media, the police AND government.

With hindsight we can say that what Sikh groups like SP uncovered and highlighted (despite a world of opposition) was only the tip of the iceberg. We subsequently found out that white girls were being abused too. It's sad that the only people to take up that cause was the ugly, openly right wing. And their attempts to racialise the issue has blown up in their face with the subsequent on-going revelations regarding sexual abuse by hordes of white men in very prominent positions in the media and politics! I mean the indigenous hardly have a leg to stand on...

Personally I believe all of the focus resultant of Sikh group activism played its part in turning the tide in this country and forcing people to face up to what was going on under their noses across the board.

It is.

But you have to remember that Hindu families also suffer from the same problem but they've COMPLETELY ignored it. At least a few Sikhs (not enough granted!) stepped up.

In the end, you can't fill important gaps in a child's psychology/personality/identity with material wealth or academic success or some tribalised bullshit. .

The community has yet to learn this. But there ARE Sikhs who are working within the community addressing the issue. More than I can say about some others.

PS - Yes, we have problems, no doubt about that. And certain issues are taking much longer than could be wished to address. But we working on it. So don't write us off just yet.

Has anyone carried out a study on this subject recently, if so I would like to read it.

There have to be many contributory factors to this problem. We can start to resolve this problem once we know what these factors are. Otherwise we are just going round and round in circles guessing at solutions.
