It was not accepted by Congress govt. in center. Sikhs persued it but Hindus in Punjab opposed it. Those who couldn't tolerate the name, how could they tolerate the Golden Temple as SIFTI DA GHAR? Today a train service started from Udhampur to Katra to facilitate the pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi shrine. The ame of this new Railway Station is given SHRI MATA VAISHNO DEVI KATRA. But the name of Amritsar is still not changed to give respect to main shrine of Sikhs. This needs to be called officially as SRI AMRITSAR SAHIB. There are many stations or places even outside Punjab which have been named after Sikh icons or have the suffix "sahib" attached to their names. Such petty thinking! such pathetic logic! they did not name a train after GT so we butchered 1000s. vaishno Devi station has been constructed for crores of Bhagats who go for the pilgrimage. u have problems with that too! smaller places (even outside Punjab) like Nanded, Patna, Hemkunt,Paonta have the suffix 'Sahib' attached to their names. Many trains named after Sikh icons, there is not only a GT Express but also Akal Takht Express, sachkhand express, Hemkunt Express, etc. As far as using the prefix 'Sri' is concerned, it is not even Sikh!! U should demand amritsar to be named as Sardar Amritsar Sahib This guy is speaking truth that punjabi Hindus oppose the naming of Amritsar to Sri Amritsar Sahib and they also oppose the Holy status to it . Its not your fault buddy ..its because you never got a proper upbringing and you never knew your dont know your real biological lineage ..You cannot be Sikh ..no ways.
