Reciting vs Reading Gurbani

Recommended Posts

Since Gurbani is written in poetic form, complete with rhyme, what if any effect do you think this might have on us from the perspective of sound?

Background: Many spiritual paths claim that chanting / recitation of certain mantras etc effect us in a deeply spiritual way regardless if we recignize it or not.  And so, simply reading something vice reciting it, may not have the same effects. What about listening to others reciting it then?

In similar light, there are those who say Gurbani is not only meant to be read... but also recited (or listened to) as it has deeply profound spiritual effect on us. And Gurbani (unlike in other religions) wthe entire SGGSJ was meant to be sung...

This makes sence from a scientific standpoint, simply because vibration is found at the base level of the Universe.  Everything exists in octaves... light, heat, electromagnetic energy, electricity, and even sound, are all just different 'bands' of frequency traveling through a medium. Even the atoms which make up everything we know (including our bodies and our brains) are really just a bunch of atoms - electrons and quarks - held together by electromagnetic force.  Einstein was quoted as saying that matter is really just energy in a slow state of vibration.  So all that truly exists is [conscious] energy, in varying states of vibration.

So do you think that there is a definite difference if you recite Gurbani vs read Gurbani?

What about someone who is deaf?? Is Gurbani which is read (sung in the mind) still creating the same vibrations through thought waves/consciousness (which are also frequency able to be measured by EEG)??
