New Delhi: The arrest of a woman and the man she had eloped with at a village near Narela has revealed that she bludgeoned her four-year-old son and threw his body out of a moving train while on the way to Delhi from Punjab. After the GRP found the child's body on the railway tracks near Katra in Jammu on February 2, they had alerted the cops in Delhi, leading to the arrest of the duo.

The woman, Gurmeet Kaur, a resident of Hoshiarpur in Punjab, was married to Harpreet Singh six years ago. She claimed that Singh had gone to Dubai two years ago and showed no intention of returning, calling her only to enquire about their son Harman. When Kaur took up a job at a company in Hoshiarpur, she ran into Ajay Kumar, who worked there as a security guard.

After a few months of an affair with Kumar, Kaur decided to marry him and leave Hoshiarpur. In order to avoid suspicion at home, she left with Harman. Kumar joined her on the train to Delhi. On the way, they decided to leave the boy in the train when they disembarked in Delhi.

But before they reached Delhi, the boy collapsed when Kaur smashed his head against the train wall, angered by his refusal to have food. The couple panicked and threw the body out of the moving train. When they reached Delhi, they went to Singhola village near Narela in north-west Delhi and rented a house there.

When the Katra GRP was investigating the case, a passenger reported having seen Harman with his mother. "We were informed about this and launched a search to find Kaur and Kumar," said Vikramjit Singh, DCP, Outer Delhi. Kumar was apprehended at a private company where he had begun working as a security guard. Kaur was nabbed soon after. During questioning, she confessed to killing her son, saying she had "no affection for him".
