One. The Paanth has time and time again elected to protest this way. Which I repsect. But we've paid our entry fees. No more getting arrested. It doesn't work.

Two. Interesting that a much less impressive non violent protest movement came right after this.

The footage is silent so the text is placed in the reel. Here is what I saw:

00:02 Garlands for the martyrs.

00:13 Holy water to sustain them.

00:22 An Akali Jatha (procession) starts then for the distant estate at Gug-Ka-Bagh, which they claim the right to enter and enjoy despite the Government’s warning against the invasion of private property.

00:33 Chosen groups of the Akalis try to enter the estate through the lines of the British Indian police - note what follows.

00:53 At no matter what cost of bodily suffering they keep on trying - it looks so insane as to be almost unbelievable.

01:17 Scores are carried away unconscious -

The brits can be seen smirking with glee as they watch the collaborators beating the Sikhs.

The floaters were the most hysterical and hypocritical of the colonial powers at the time. Any obvious violence was met with massacres and bombing raids. That is why the protest happened this way. Plenty of their soldiers/police/administrators ended up dead in the gutter throughout that era though. Best not to talk about it too much, you know how petty and vindictive they can be.
