Ello,

I was a bit confused...feel kind of dumb asking this  but..

What is the Sukhmani Sahib?

I have a book of Nitnaym Baanees and I read my prayers from that.. but what does 'Nitnaym' mean?

And who wrote/writes the rehats? And can rehats still be written today?

and also.. what does 'rehat' mean?

Sorry if I asked too many questions

Just want to know more about Sikhi.

What is the Sukhmani Sahib?

A major composition of Guru Arjun found on page 262 of the Guru Granth Sahib.

I have a book of Nitnaym Baanees and I read my prayers from that.. but what does 'Nitnaym' mean?

Nit= Everyday

Naym= routine/practice

And who wrote/writes the rehats? And can rehats still be written today?

Sikhs of Gurus time wrote them. We can't write new rehats anymore.

what does 'rehat' mean?

Code of conducts for Sikhs.

If rehats cant be written anymore...than where did the rehats about wearing hats or dancing to bhangra and such come from? Thats what confused me.

Most rehits were written before, Although a few have been added by Khalwas Panth as

'Khalsa Mero Roop hai Khas, Khalse me ho karo Nivas'

But then again, thats USUALLY made by Akal Takhat Sahib

Bhull chukk maaf

But if Guru Granth Sahib is supposed to be all we are to follow.. then why does the Akal Takhat get to add to it?

Why? well, as the qoute above Guru ji SAid.

'Khalsa mero Roop hai Khas'

Khalsa is my identity true

Khalse me ho Karo NIvas

'In Khalsa do I reside

It is said that Guru GObind Singh ji's JOT is in Guru GRanth Sahib ji, and Body in the Khalsa..

Guru GObind Singh ji ractically proved what he said

i.e. in the battle of Chamkaur, he was ORDERED by Panj Pyaare to go away, so he did take it as a Hukam - Go away from Anandpur Sahib fort - he once agian did..

He listened to Khalsas EVERY HUKAM, as it was a Part of him

hence the Shabad by BHai Gurdas duja -

Waho Waho Gobind Singh Ape Gur Chela

Hail Hail Guru Gobind Singh ji, who himself is the Guru, himself the follower

Bhull chukk maaf :)

and you think people of the Khalsa are always correct? They cant ever corrupt or change sumtin to suit their views?

Only Waheguru can judge.. and people..well even the religious can become corrupt.. unless u deny that?

I guess thats why I have a problem with the Rehats and Takhat.. I'd rather just follow Guru Granth Sahib ji

The rehats are a part of Sikhi too.

The rehatnamas that we follow strictly are the ones written by Sikhs like Bhai Daya Singh ji, who was the first Panj Pyara. He was the first one that stepped up in the original amrit sanchaar, willing to give his head to Guru Sahib, regardless of what people thought, fearless of death or whatever the consequences may be. Bhai Daya Singh Ji must have been extremely close to Guru Sahib. Also Sikhs like Baba Nand Singh Ji - Baba Ji was extremely close to Guru Gobind Singh, so he would never write something that went against Guru Jee's teachings.

There are also key parts in rehat that were written by Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself. He was our Dasmey Patshaah - and we should definitely follow HIS teachings along with the Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
