  1. I think it depends on the situation , can't remember the exact quote from siri Guru Gbind Singh Ji , goes something like this " if all other means fail when upholding justice fails , then it is just to draw the sword " The above mentioned incidents , have we really exhauasted all peaceful means to get justice , in their wrong doings ? i don't think so . I believe there is a minority of people who are fanatics and get worked up for no reason and act in a manner that in thier eyes they are fighting for religion but in fact are doing more damage than good I also believe that a true sikh , will not run away when fighting for righteousness i.e. like saheed udham singh , when he shot general dyer in the court room , he did not shoot him and run away
  2. Yogesh was excellent , the guy played all the gharanas superbly the technique and speed was out of this world ( you could see he spent alot of years practising ) Amrik, ustad Tari Khan is coming to Birmingham July 17th , if you think Yogesh is good Tari is something else , I've sen him before and I think he has take tabla to another dimension , he is worth seeing.
  3. But surely if we belong to sri Guru Gobind Singh ji , we have to practice and live in the rehat meriyda and if we are doing it with pyar and devotion , our minds become purer and then only the people who live this code will rule regardless of which religion they follow Is this true or am I barking up the wrong tree ?
  4. I don't think you should have apologised but to explain to your friend what it meant. I was listening to the radio station ages ago and remember similar topic being discussed , from what i recall , khalsa is the pure not just sikh , it could be any religion and only the khalsa "the pure " will rule I may be wrong here but what I understand form the word pure is a person who only sees waheguru in there eyes , they are free from the 5 sins ( anger, lust, greed, ego and apologise i can't remember the last one)
  5. Amrik, Yes I do , i learn from him at the MAC Do you know him?

  7. taken from sikh history .com web site 'Steel bracelet. A symbol to remind the wearer of restraint in their actions and remembrance of God at all times ' So , if for some unexplained reason a sikh tries to perform sinful duties , kara will remind them that not to perform those sinful duties , if you can't see the kara then how will a sikh be reminded? hence not covered.
  8. It is not about the play being hijacked , it is about respecting others beliefs. The whole point was to get the theme of the play changed ie. not to use sikh symbols / SGGS ji to set the play in a different environment If you believe that the play had some issues and society needed to be made aware of them , them why not go round the country inviting members of all societies to discuss the issues , without a doubt if injustices have / were done , sikhs and many other people from different backgrounds would be there in force. Why make a play about sex/rape/ abuse ? realistically , if you go and watch a play like this , at the end you probabaly feel a bit bad and after a day or so, back to normal . Why not act upon these issues , by speaking to relevant parties who can help society regarding theses issues , why make a play and money ?
  9. Kirtan throughout UK's Gurudawaras Wahe Guru Ji ka Khalsa Wahe Guru Ji ke Fateh I was thinking about the TSUNAMI disaster , and ways to raise funds and remember wahe guru ji at the same time thoughout the gurudawaras in the UK ( thats if it hasn't been done so already) justed wanted your views and if possible if we could action it , the thought was , to get men, women, youngsters, professional kirtians, jathas etc.. to do kirtan at gurudwaras for one week or 2 days. All should involved i.e. beginners to Advanced to professionals and donations go to the TNSUAMI Disater appeal) , let the sangat know about them via SKY digitial channel radios ( radio punjab 880, sukh sagar 900 , 926 any others, leaflets , forums word of mouth etc..) so that they could announce the dates to the sangat as when the kirtans going to be held and at which gurudawara It would be ideal that all the gurudawaras in the UK if possible hold the venue at the same time. the issue is , how to approach the gurudawaras , whether they would listen to us or just sweep us away. There could be a representative for each area ( volunteers welcome or people who know the Gurudawaras pardans) God willing i would volunteer to organise events in birmingham with the guidance and help form the sangat. kema dha ja chuck hai
  10. Wahe guru ji ka khalsa wahe guru ji ke fateh , I believe the Gurprit Kaur Bhatti should have deeply thought about the consequences her play would have on society before she wrote it , and then re-inacted it . One question I have , is that the play she wrote , is it fiction or is it reality? Did 'acts of rape / sex abuse ' happen to someone she knows closely ? or is it just her imagination ? If so , then why right a damn play about it ? why make money out of it ? why not seek justice by proper legal methods ? why not disgrace the person/persons involved ? Talking about freedom of speech , 'yes up to a point' , there are limits and boundaries we must keep within. If you look at the sikh history , the 9th guru siri guru tegh bahadur ji , gave his life so that hindustan can be free of oppression , so its not that sikhs don't know about freedom of speach , its about freedom of speach for just cause to help other humans who don't have a voice , its not about , ' oh let me offend , someones beleifs and then I can say I have the right of freedom of speech '. kema dha jachuck hai
  11. Wahe guru ji ka khalsa Wahe guru ji ke fateh , I think the media have blown it out of proportion, i.e. the media are broadcasting more news on the violence rather than what offense the play caused to sikhs. Watching the news last night , it was all about propaganda , i.e ' sikhs violently attack the REP ' ' violence at the REP caused by sikhs , ' etc... RATHER than , giving the news to the public about the offense the play caused and what the sikhs wanted to be rectified in the play , the media focused it more on violence So the media are playing games , if i wasn't a sikh and i saw the news , the impression i would have is that , these sikhs are violent people causing harm to innocent by standers just because people don't agree with their views. Plus one big mistake that was made was using violence , it was only a minority of people who caused such violence. If it was a peaceful protest , I bet it would have been solved behind doors , with a bit of persuasion from sikh leaders and other community leaders. So we must educate these people , regarding the sikh religion , so they will think twice of using religious places / symbols in their plays in the future. We must tell them the meaning of sikhism , hold a gathering outside the REP / some peaceful place , with literature so that non sikhs can read and digest what sikhism is all about and that sikhs protesting about the play were not protesting to stop the play , but to change the contents of the play so that Sikh sysmbols/ place of worship / any negatives about sikhism as a religion were changed. It is not the religion that is at fault it is the person . kemma dha jar-chuck heh
