  1. Sat sri Akaal peeps..whats happening?! Have any of you heard about this new controversial film of the 'true' accounts of Jesus' sacrifice? Its not out in UK as yet. Has any one seen it yet. Its influenced/ inspired so many people that they are becoming Christians. Does any one know f the Gurus were against plays or movies made of them (im sure my mum told me that the 10th Guru was against it). But look at things from this perspective- it would really revive Sikh youths wouldnt it? (if it were to be directed by an unbiased person, hence...not some tacky Bollywood producer who rip off sikhs giving fake accounts). People would want to know more???? Then again, theres something that in my heart..doesnt feel right about making movies about such great people. What do u lot think?
  2. Hinduism is so massive and has hundreds of sects, they could even claim Christianity being a sect of Hinduism...is all pick and mix..
  3. Interesting topic. I have given this question a lot of thought. Some of you may disagree, but I truly believe that Sikhism is quite similar to Hinduism, but its a modernisation of it to help us through the dark age of kaljug. Altho I agree that it is similar, that doesnt mean that i dont support 'Khalistan'or a State for sikhs!
  4. yes, i went..i go every year, this years was the biggest (20,000 approx). I also bought an english translated book on Bhai Rama Singh (from Manmukh to Gurmukh) and some gurbani CDs...why..did you go?
  5. kaur 1699 is correct. back in the days (in UK) sikhs came together and built their own gurdwaras, but in my local gurdwara the 'jatts' didnt let other castes be part of the committees..so the Ramgharians got together and made their own gurdwareh. I know that sikhs dont belive in castes..but tell that to the sikh kids at schools who get harsh treatment if they r not jatt or watever caste. ...mind you, these days i notice that this realisation of a caste system is fading away and the youth are breaking away from it, there are alot more youth becoming aware of the casteless system in sikhism. i rekon its due to more sikh camps, educational material we get at gurdwaras, internet, increase in sikh schools. i think its great, in my opinion the youth are becoming more into sikhi than back in my day...
  6. lol...i love all ur ideas and experiences. hmm reminds me of a time at work when a Christian fanatic said to my mate 'come to church with me and see what miracles Jesus performed' and my punjabi mate replied, 'thu chup karr..find out what Guru Arjan Dev Ji did and then come back to my face and try disrespectin me! huh'..... When i was a lot younger, i didnt realise how amazing sikh history was..boy did i get a shock when i read up on it  ps, BIG UPz to the Chakars and Nihangs!!!!
  7. lol....thats hilarious i got enuff stories about my experience wid them..i could go on forever! the key is to BE FIRM...NEVER EVER INVITE THEM in your house, once you give em a chance to be listened to, THEY WILL NOT SHUT UP! Trust, me from personal expeience, they can be very convincing..before my mum converted to a sikh..she nearly became a Jehovah! but she used her mind and chose what she felt was right for her. once at university, one came to our doors, and my friends invited him in and REAAAALLLLY 'cussed' a jehovah (they are VERY HIGHLY intellectual and challenged him very well!)..they only did it cos we were so annoyed wid them knockin on our doors, that cured the problem. Another time, my cousin is like a Nihang Singh, soon as he opened the door to them..they walked off...cos they knew the score as soon as they took 1 look at him...
  8. I dont know if you guys are aware of the following, but i would very much like to share it with you for common knowledge. Just a few weeks back till now, i have realised the rise in Asian youths (particularlty Sikh and Hindu youth) knocking on our doors trying to persuade people to convert to Jehova Witnesses. Whats strange is that they speak in Hindi/ Punjubi (trying to influence othe asians). Recently, it was emerged (it was mentioned in a particular punjabi radio station) that certain leaders of Jehova Witnesses are PAYING asian youth to go out and try to convert people to their religion (particulalry asians, hence the punjabi/hindi speakers). And eventually, being surrounded by Jehovah Witnesses, they tend to fully follow that religion. I just wondered if any of you have come across this recently, its only been noticed quite recently. Its funny, because when this particular asian youth knocked on our door, he said to my mum, 'give me 15 minutes to talk about Jehova Witnesses...' and my mum replied, 'ok then, as long as you give me 15 minutes also to talk about Sikhi'.....then..... he said....no thank you, goodbye...LOL LOL LOL Talk about being open minded!
  9. just a quick query, i dont know if this has been discussed before. What does sikhism say about using implants like organs of the body (ie, heart, lungs). There was medical research going on and medics say that a pigs heart or artery can be used, however, muslims/ jehovas witnesses disagree that organ replacement should be done. So whats our view on it?
  10. haha remember that song 'papa dont preach' by madonna..... well now it will be 'PAPPI dont preach'.... ahh ok..i thought it was funny
  11. good stuff@ the above posts. there was once a muslim guy who argued that those who cremate dead bodies are 'stupid' and that bodies should be buried. In response to this a friend of mine pointed out a verse in the GGS mentioning that bodies that are buried, eventually turn to clay (decompose).hence eventually are burned (use of clay making)..so at some point, their bodies will be burnt too (cremated). (pls accept my apologies for not quoting the verse, i shall try to find it later :? ) and i agree wih N30, that sikhism and hinduism are more realistic (truth- and common sense) and relate a lot more to science compared to many other thoughts. Sikhism is of course its own religion, and it basically carries people through time of Kalyug, hence a modern religion, but then again..its a religion that existed from the beginning....
  12. hmmm very trueat steele bangle. 1 thing i dont understand is how people can believe that the world started thru adam and eve...whom grew outta a tree???? (well something along those lines)

  15. when im online, these annoying pop up ads come up, they r sooo F***** annoying! How do i get rid of em? please explain in simple form, cos im not too familiar with IT jargon!
  16. matha tek is not ritualistic. when we put our hands together in front of GGS we are respecting the words in it, the words in the GGS are so true and are all devoted to god. we bow down to ask for forgiveness, we cannot even compare to the gurus and all holy and pure people who have 100% respect and love for god alone, so we stay humble. Again, its not the physical book we worship, its the WORDS inside it that are phenominal and nothing can compare to it
  17. lol...Gandhi is over rated. No offence but.... What did he achieve? It makes me laugh when people say that he helped India become Independant. The main reason why India got its independance was because the British had to go to war (WW1 and WW2). So they left..simple as.
  18. hi! i dunno if any of you lot seen heard these stories n kirtan i came across some excellent stories and kirtan in english, heres a nice story about Sri Har Krishan and a Pandit ( a proud man) listen to it on real player (if u havent got it then down load it from sikhnet) http://www.sikhnet.com/Gurbani Go onto the above link and click on 'Sikh Stories' and select 'The Guru and the Pandit' There are many more..its real cool
  19. ahaaaa i have found it...heres the link to scientific as well as the sikh ideology as to why meat is not advisable...its so interesting: http://www.gurbani.org/webart18.htm
  20. i dont know if this is true, but i was told that some one had a dream that the Guru in his previous life meditated there. However, there are some Sikhs that dont pay much attention to Hemkunt Sahib because they feel that maybe 'it was just a dream' and that this person either wanted to make something out of it or assumed so as it were a dream. Any one know any more info on this?
  21. your sooo right,u cant beat doing it yourself. I remember before i used to be just proud to say im sikh 'N' this and that. But then i started reading the Gurbani online (doing roughly 10 pages per week and thoroughly understanding it)....IT IS VERY ADDICTIVE ONCE YOU GET READING IT. You just want to read more and more and more and more. Its amazing how you can read it online and also in english. Its all well how people JUST bow down to GGS but many dont make an effort to read or understand it properly (theyre just doing things ritually rather than 'doing' something) . I would advise them to make an effort to read it ..even for 5 mins of your time a day.
  22. YEA!! i have heard a similar story from a Kala Kenyan Singh who came to our local gurdwara quite a long time ago. From what i know before Singhs left a town in Kenya, they requested a kala to look after the Gurdwara and serve people (they even said that they would help fundings if needed). Apparantly the Kala was very lazy and didnt do much. One day he was sitting in the Gurdwara and he just saw a vision of a man with a beard and turban..and the kala got scared. When he saw some sikhs he pointed at the picture of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and said it was 'that man' whom he saw. From then on, the Kala is doing so much seva!!!! lol.
  23. hi all, just thought i'd share my thoughts with you. Just a couple of weeks ago, i went to the new Gurdwara in Southall and i gota say..its fantastic, there is always non- sikhs coming in and visiting it as well as ourselves here and the architecture is so cool! But when i was sitting amongst the sangat..i noticed granthis (people reading gurbanis) in about 10 'phone booth' looking compartments!! They were carrying out prayers for people who have requested them to do so. Now my thought on this is...shouldnt those people who 'pay' these people to read prayers do it themselves or atleast be present while its being read? It just doesnt make sense, (not that i am sooo against it..my views are just a thought). Guru Ji always said that we shouldnt pay or rely on others to prayer 'for us'...you gotta do it yourself..right? any way, thats just my thought..i dont want to be picky on what others do..but its common sense..its just weird to see people getting others to do their prayers..is this a business? :? :? :?
  24. i dunno, its difficult to know who to trust or not. then again, he did manage to inspire many gorays into sikhi. maybe the people look at him as a very holy man and wish for him to choose names. its like Baba Mann Singh ..when he comes to the gurdwaras, people all bow down at him but he doesnt like them to as he is not god..but people still do it
