  1. Khalsa soldier you have raised some excellent points that I've never thought of. Don't believe that, people can't admit it because its truth, maybetoclose to home for them. Were did that come from,I'm no muslim :x Excellent, recommendation I've tried it in the past it does work, the key is to stay busy. You must have some serious, baagti and a good rehit, just make sure it doesn't effect your marriage in the future, alot of women seek else were if the male is not up scratch. sad to say but its the truth. I know Singhs who sleep in seperate beds to their wife Ladies fear not that is like 1% the rest will be normal good luck my brother,I hope one day I can control my 5 friends
  2. Amans, After marriage means obviously you have to direct your energys towards your partner. ie: experiance the feelings together (that is gristy to satisfy your partner to,) Else, if after marriage your still doing it, then you one lusty soul Read Kirtan Sohila, Kaam(Lust) Krodh(Anger) Nagar Boh Paria(in the body) even Guru ji says it his body is full of Kaam/anger that take him away from his beloved, but then he gives you the solution, within. read it
  3. Khalsa Soulja, have you ever ? No point preaching and not practising, its a common thing that happens, I have seen the most "Gursikh" Sangat, be the most "Tung"(Sexually frustrated" mess up trying to control it and the first bit of contact with someone of the opposite sex, have ended up breaking their amrit and walk away ashamed  Kalyug will do what is does, Two fingers to Kalyug
  4. SamosaSingh, from my many travels throughout the world, I have found that many amritari's/non-amritari do it regularly or irregulary, it's something that is done and not thought of. If you can find a person who doesn't then they're lying Let's all get married  then we may not have to, post these messages. :oops2:
  5. Let's look at this practically, if you try to hold it in for weeks on end I have tried many a time, you become even more lustful and begin to look and lust more over girls, even in the Gurdwara's,streets and any where else. After you've done your business, Lust doesn't become such a problem, Ie: I can talk to women without drueling over them, effectively avoiding situations where, by I could be Breaking my Rehit (this is sexual contact outside of marriage) Basically if you do your self-seva you won't end up breking your vows to Guru ji, if you can control your self-passions then all good, but if you can't Oh Well! As long as you don't sleep around with people, I personally beleive that everyone has some vice that "gets them off" weather it is based on Lust,Greed,Anger,Ego or Attachment. Also if you look at Why Guru Nanak Dev Ji Stressed the fact of married life is because with you partner you can do what you please, because it's legal. "If I have offended anyone in this post " Remember Kaam(lust) and Karodh(Anger) are like two best friends always messing around and disturbing us, you can't beat them but you can control them. :yo: Hooka, Halal,Hazamat,Haraam Hooka(Tabacco),Halal(Muslim Meat,(No debate on this please),Hazamat(Removal of hair, foreskin), Haaram (Sexual Relations outside of marriage)
  6. I'm not into Brahmism, in terms of Jhoota, I have friends that have stopped eating from their own mothers, because they're not amritari """WRONG""" "your mother gave birth to you" The basis of this came from the times when Sikhs, were hunted down, it was only safe to eat from others "suitable" singhs/singhni's that you knew wouldn't poison your food. An old tactic when Sikh camps were ransacked was before the moguals, came to the camp the Sikhs would poison there food, so that when the enemy came they would eat the food and die  Sant Jarnail Singh used to only eat from other Sikhs he knew as there was many people out to assinate him, so he would only trust a few of his sevadars to prepare his food. Nowadays, many people who have taken amrit have mis-concived the meaning behind the action . and prefer to eat out of iron bowls and pretend to be gurmukh, and not eat with aam sangat shame
  7. I have to give respect to those girls that come into Sikhi regardless weather keski or not, any Female that comes onto the path will surely bring out good children. its good feeling for Singhs to know that it's NOT a male world
  8. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh I would like to know, when at any points in Sikh History have Sikhs been successful at politics, can anybody relate some examples..people,movements Because from what I can see, ie:1984,1947,1919,1857 we never have had any decent outcomes. People stress the point of "Miri-Piri" but I feel as though, you can't mix the two sides without having bloodshed (in our case) Discuss ¬
  9. See even the Sant's Recite these Vars,Most Excellent And in essence they are considered "Shant Ras" Gursikhs which is excellent they do their naam from Ad/Guru Granth Sahib but continue to keep the Dasam Bani at hand
  10. "56 years ago I joined the 15th Ludhiana Sikhs in Loralai, Baluchistan and at once became imbued with the teachings and the life of Guru Nanak. The Sikh Gurus, the Sikh religion, the Gurudwara, the Granth Sahib became part of my life. The British and Sikh officers of the Regiment were convinced that religion was an important factor in the make-up of a good soldier and we fostered that in every way possible." (An extract from a speech made by Brigadier the Rt.Hon.Sir John Smyth, Bt.VC at a celebration of the 500th Birthday Anniversary of Guru Nanak at Grosvenor House in Park Lane in December, 1969) Emergency Sahib of Queen's, Sikhs and the Dagger Division, Robin Schlaefli  I will be posting more MODERATORS SUGGESTION FOR AN ENTIRE SECTION THREAD DEVOUTED TO 1850'S- WW1/2-Present Sikhs, covering The British and Indian Army Predomiantly Sikhs of course. Sections of Photo's,quotes and and journals that the sangat has to share,ie: We build an entire section of authentic works for everyone to see
  11. Gurfateh and Welcome to this brief compilation of information about Raag and Gurmat Sangeet. Literally, raga means to color or to please. Basically, raga is a scheme of melody. It is also a tool we can use in our mission to become closer to Waheguru (God) through Keertan. Keertan is the devotional singing of the praises of God in melody and rhythm and in the words of the Ninth Guru Ji, the “glory of God with words, mind and actionâ€. As we shall explore, GURMAT SANGEET is the tradition of Keertan started by Guru Nanak Dev Sahib Ji at Kartapur in 1521 and was continued by His successors, particularly by Guru Arjan Dev Sahib Ji Dev Sahib Ji Ji. To fully appreciate the History and Tradition of Keertan (Part 2) it is interesting to first touch upon the History and Fundamentals of Raag – since the practical essence of Gurmat Sangeet lies in the understanding of Raag and elements of notation, melody etc. Information about the Spiritual essence of Gurmat Sangeet and Keertan can be found later in Part 2. The aim of reading this is to give students, including myself, some basic and relevant grounding in history and the introduction to some KEYTERMS that will be used often in the actual teaching of Keertan in the Gurmat Sangeet tradition. May Guru Ji bless us with His Divine Grace and please forgive Daas for any mistakes or inaccuracies made here. Jasjeet Singh [October 13th 2001] ----- PART 1: HISTORY AND FUNDAMENTALS OF RAAG Indian Classical Music dates back over 4,500 Years. The music was handed down orally from guru (teacher) to shishya (student). The art was known as Sangeet and included vocal and instrumental music. It was mostly devotional music intended to take man towards God and give him an inner happiness and self-realisation. VEDIC TIMES (2500 BC TO 200 AD) The arts of vocal music, instrumental music and dance were quite popular in this age. Even the common man had some knowledge of these arts. Different types of instruments like ban (similar to veena), karkari (somewhat like a lyre), nadi (flute) and aghati (cymbals) were used as accompaniments to vocal music. All this indicates that music was quite popular and was regarded as a valuable achievement. CLASSICAL TIMES (100 AD TO 1200 AD) The first authentic book on musicology was written in the second century A.D. by Bharata. He mentions three types of grama (scale), Shajda grama, madhyama grama and gandharva grama. He has mentioned the 22 shruties (microtones), svaras (notes), moorchana (scales ) and 18 kinds of jatis (ancient melodic schemes). Not much progress was made during the regime of the Rajput rulers of India. MEDIEVAL TIMES (1200 TO 1800) During the thirteenth century Sarangdev (1210-1247) wrote a scholarly manual of music called Sangeet Ratnakar, in which he brought up-to-date the musical development of the centuries right from Bharata onwards. He explained different musical modes and terms and vocal techniques of sharaj grama and madhyam grama. He divided the octave into 22 equal interval called shruties. Then came the Muslim invaders from outside the frontiers of North India. Generally they did not take kindly to music, though some of the Muslim rulers patronise professional singers in their courts. I will post the rest Section by Section
