  1. Sat Sri Kal, I was reading the SGGS last nite, and I came across the following two lines on page 235 Can anyone explain me what victory and defeat means in this context Here's the link to page http://www.sikhnet.com/sggs/translation/0235.html
  2. Checkout this video, I got the link from the same site (posted by Deep Singh) http://radio.sikhnet.com:8080/ramgen/81med....rm?usehostname
  3. I don't see anythin wrong in serving Gol Gappas, chaat, pakoras... but concerned about the sevadar wearing his shoes while serving. :? One reason I see that they could be serving all those spicy things is that they want more visitors to the Gurudwara, then the other one
  4. truthsingh, thats a really interesting post.. sukhsingh, ppl say amritvela is the moment between night and just when sunrise occurs.. but if u get up at 4:30am, that would do
  5. I was once talking to a mahapurush and he said that ppl had names like the ones below Dharti Thakail Singh (Earth Shaking Singh) Bhuchal Singh (Storm Singh)
  6. Here are some lines from the SGGS, that are worth sharing -- In an instant, one is born, and in an instant, one dies. In an instant one comes, and in an instant one goes. If the mind is polluted, then the body is polluted, and the tongue is polluted as well. Whatever has been, and whatever shall be, comes from You, Lord. As they plant, so shall they harvest. The True Guru has shown me that there is only one pleasure.Whatever the Lord does, is pleasing to the Lord's devotee. O Nanak, he alone lives, who chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Remain dead while yet alive, and you shall be welcomed in the Court of the Lord. Within the cave of this body, there is one beautiful place. O Nanak, that human body, in which there is no pain of separation from the Lord-take that body and burn it. Like a traveller in his travels, you have come. Behold the caravan leaving each day. I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those Gurmukhs who drink in this Ambrosial Nectar. The tongue tastes the essence, and remains forever imbued with the Lord's Love, intuitively singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. Through selfless service, eternal peace is obtained. The Gurmukh is absorbed in intuitive peace. If I cut my body into pieces, and burn them in the fire, and if I make my body and mind into firewood, and night and day burn them in the fire, and if I perform hundreds of thousands and millions of religious rituals-still, all these are not equal to the Name of the Lord. ||2|| If my body were cut in half, if a saw was put to my head, and if my body were frozen in the Himalayas-even then, my mind would not be free of disease Truth is higher than everything; but higher still is truthful living. The Lord's Name is the pure wealth; through the Guru, God bestows this gift One who has the Guru, the Creator, as his Friend, shall not be questioned hereafter Beholding your family, you are lured away by emotional attachment, but when you leave, they will not go with you. Remember your Lord and Master, who is easily obtained, and all desires shall be fulfilled. aapai no aap khaa-ay man nirmal hovai gur sabdee veechaar. Their identity consumes their identical identity, and their minds become pure by contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad. He remains dead while yet alive, and he chants the Name of the Lord. You have forsaken the Bani, the Word of the Immortal Lord, in this mortal world; in the end, you shall regret and repent. Twenty-four hours a day, they deal in the Name of the Lord. This mind is a mirror; how rare are those who, as Gurmukh, see themselves in it.I do not know any other than the Lord. This world is a garden, and my Lord God is the Gardener. The Gurmukhs know that the Lord alone acts, and causes others to act. O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs love the darkness. This world is an illusion; it dies and it is re-born-it comes and it goes in reincarnation. They desert you even when you are alive, O madman and one quote from Baba Nand Singh Ji In the process of devotion and love of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib if sleep overtakes, it is then better to fall in the well and die rather than live a life otherwise --
  7. Kundalini yoga is more about the various chakras in your body. there are a total of seven chakras in your body.. i used to do this and some other stuff... but i have come to the conclusion its all useless if done without an instructor or otherwise.. well this was 2 yrs ago now i just listen to shabads and i go with the flow of life.. or just the path of bhakti yoga.. there is another yoga which is called naad yoga, the yoga of sound, which is like listening to gurbani.. and has a powerful effect. i read it in Sundar Gutka
  8. enjoyed reading it, its interesting, is that a true one ?
  9. Nice post Sevak.. I think that unless a person is ready to meet the guru, he will not find the true Satguru.. in other words the guru will come on his own accord. I would like to quote a line from the autobiography of a yogi "A master bestows the divine experience of cosmic consciousness when his disciple, by meditation, has strengthened his mind to a degree where the vast vistas would not overwhelm him." and another one fromsrcm If there is love in your heart for the Master, then the Master begins to love you. If you can bring this about then your work is almost done. The important thing is to knock on the door of his heart so vigorously that he is compelled to open it to you.

  12. That prophecy will happen, The Guru has said that the Khalsa will rule the world for 5000 years!! I also read a similar prophecy its by Ram Chandra of the sri ram chandra mission. He wrote it in the 1950's , and all of it thats written has become true... Also, He said that somewhere by the beginning of the century, that is this decade 2000-2010, many wars will take place, and there be will large scale bloodshed.. and the new world order will rise on bones and ashes.. the southern part of England will sink into the sea.. India will regain its pristine glory.. well read it here is the link http://www.srcm.org/literature/reality.html#Vision

  18. On his return journey home he stopped at Saidpur in western Punjab during the invasion of the first Mughal Emperor Babar. On seeing the extent of the massacre by the invaders, Mardana asked Guru Nanak why so many innocent people were put to death along with those few who were guilty. Guru Nanak told Mardana to wait under a banyan tree and after a while he would return to answer his question. While sitting under the tree Mardana was suddenly bitten by an ant. In anger Mardana killed as many ants as he could with his feet. Guru Nanak said to him, "You know now Mardana, why do the innocents suffer along with the guilty?"
