  1. you shouldnt be afraid - these 'bad' things come because you look at them out of fear - focus on what you're there for not on what you're not there for. Put your mind in Guru Sahibs hands - this man is not ours, it will not listen to us and we have no power over it. It'll wander for a bit then slowly calm down and stick to Gurbani - if you give it the means to do so...ie listen to Gurbani
  2. the nag champa brand are usually nice - smell good and dont irritate some of these dhoof could be used as crowd dispersant a la tear gas. But imo nag champa is the way to go. ive evne seen it on ebay if you cant find it your local dhoof shop. As for bhang dhoof ...not too sure babaji would be too happy bout that.
  3. what do you mea 'take naam' amrit vela gives more fal; doesnt mean its the *only* time to do paat. IMO not being well is all the more reason to wake up at amrit vela...but thats just me...even if its only to listen to paat on your hifi
  4. he did very hard tapasya for long periods of time. Im not entirely sure of the details. I think for 20 years he only ate food that fell of a tree/bush by itself ie he never took any food from anywhere, nor did he forcefully take it from a tree. After I think he suspended himself upside down in a well for 20 years without eating anything. I may be wrong though...
  5. i think kabir was really youg when he started doing simran - his mom started him off. He started doing tapasya after his gurdev told him he needed to work off the weight of showing ridhia sidhia which he did naively when he was young. Bhagat dhana I believe became curious when he saw how the shivling was being treated. He was young - middle aged. He had huge kamai from past lives though, which is why he got Maharaj darshan.
  6. i think i worked it out bhalla - everything God does is, was and will be for our best interests Bhana - i beleive this link explains it http://www.sikhawareness.com/sikhawareness...p?p=71268#71268 bhulla - you have to forget 'desh, kaal and vastu'
  7. I don't think so. If you are Gurmuk and proceeding in Bhagti you will come back as a human. Sangat of Satgur could earn him life as human evn though he was bemukh. I have heard of other cases of people coming back in successive human births, e.g. Suleman. Remember you will be given back exactly as you have earned by DharamRaj, so he was granted a human life again before having to pay for what he did to Sahiubzade. Thats how I see it anyway
  8. i have heard of the three pabas, but I sunno what they mean : what are Baba bhalla, baba bhulla, and baba bhana ji? Thanks
  9. It is, it's on display at the Tower of London. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/727231.stm
  10. also you usually stay there for a certain sentence - not eternity
  11. ...find out what breed she is and whether you usually cut that breeds hair...you dont want the other dogs to laugh at her
  12. you dont really need to cut her hair...most long haired dogs have their eyes covered with hair... If she runs into a door, maybe then also many samll dogs dont really bark...she'll be better at it when shes older
  13. dude y'all arent exactly warming to this i see? ... 13 hours and no one even passed by
  14. Ive alreayd got this going if anyone wants to join ...if the regular mods here want to made ops pm me with your nick. Otherwise i am online pretty much 24 hours a day so I can monitor to channel or at least help. If you dunno how to use irc check out these links http://www.mirc.com/ircintro.html http://www.dal.net/ http://docs.dal.net/docs/newbie.html and for the ops: http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/opguide.html use mirc or trillian, or chatzilla etc etc imo trillian is the simplest to use - these are all free downlads - google them. Chatzilla only works with mozilla and firefox Hope to see y'all there
  15. how about joining an IRC channel for Sikhawareness? for those that dont know IRC is basically real time chat hosted on specific channels, in this case the channel is #sikhaism and is hosted on a server called dalnet. server : dalnet (irc.dal.net) channel : #sikhism How to use IRC: First of all, to access the IRC server, you'll need a client. Just like you can access a website with Internet Explorer or Netscape or Mozilla or another web browser, you can access an IRC server with any IRC client. You have many options, so it's mostly a matter of finding a client that suits your taste. If you use the Mozilla browser (an excellent alternative to IE, especially if you dislike Microsoft, like open source software, or are interested in cool features like tabbed browsing), you probably have ChatZilla already installed. There should be a little link to it on the left of the status bar at the bottom of the window. For Windows users: Trillian is a chat client that can connect to IRC as well as AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo, all at the same time with the same program. If you use other IM networks, this is an ideal client because it makes it all very simple. mIRC is by far the most popular IRC client for Windows users. It's got all the features you'll need. For Mac users: Ircle is a common Mac IRC client and is suggested by the folks at mIRC for Mac users. Mice iRC is an IRC client for OSX, and seems to be better liked than Ircle. Want to try out IRC without installing anything? There are many web-based IRC clients that you can use right in your browser, such as this one. Ultimately, these type will be slower and often more prone to bugs/crashing, but they're good when you're away from your usual computer or can't install a program. Setting up your client: Most clients will ask you for the following information: Nickname: Choose your own, but remember that using the same username as in the boards will help others to recognize you. Channel: #sikhawareness (Don't leave out the #. All channels -- the chat "rooms" -- start with #.) Real Name: Doesn't have to be your legal name. Use whatever you want. Server name: irc.dal.net Port: 6667 or 7000 If you are unsure about settings, leave them at their defaults. If you have trouble, contact me or ask someone in the boards. We'll do our best to make sure you're able to participate.
  16. fair enough, we should revive the old ways, but we should do it acccording to truth as far as im concerned, the things he has said are kitabi gyaan. Those same Mahapursh would have told us not to use baja etc they would at least have told the sevadars close to them. Im not saying we shouldnt revive the old instruments, im saying we shouldnt do it on the basis of lies and force. when you force someone to do something their reflex action is to resist. If you explain something to someone they often make the right choice. If you explain something good to someone using lies then they are not to blame if they ignore your point. IMO it is wrong to say that using a sitar is more important than devotion, and more important than poora prem espressed with a guitar for example. These make Sikhi look like an extremist religion - like the people going around saying how long kirpans should be, or that girls *have* to wear keski. Im not saying that its against Sikhi to do these things, Im saying its against Sikhi to use lies/force to make people do them
  17. there arent really any tips if you want to learn real santhia go to the taksal for a few months seeing as you're in india
  18. thats ridiculous I think these people now coming up and saying that we shouldnt do things any different to how they were done 500 years ago are what will destroy Sikhi in the end - making it a meaningless system of karm and ritual. I cant believe he implies that it is more acceptable to sing Kirtan with the right instruments rather than with devotion... Its ignorant manmat
