  1. Sat Sri Akal: The man bashed Sant Attar Singh for slapping sake!!!
  2. Sat Sri Akal: Yeah...they are the Panj Pyare.
  3. Sat Sri Akal: Bhai gdhaliwal23 Sahib, Mac OS X is Linux (shhhhh....don't tell nobody nothing!).
  4. Sat Sri Akal: Buddhism does not comment on the subject of the Almighty. Rather, Buddhism's ultimate goal is to rid of all worldly desires and attain Nirvana, or the ultimate bliss. Buddhism was a HUGE religion in India...that is until the time of one Sankaracharya aka. Chanakayia. He and fellow Brahmins, troubled that the castless Buddhist religion might upset the Brahmin control over the people, started a campaign to eliminate Buddhism. Through military might and philosophical undermining, the Brahmins literally drove Buddhists out of their country, India. The Buddhists were pushed into the Himalayas to the east and to Afganistan in the North. The temples of the Buddhists were either leveled or converted into Hindu temples. (Information summarized from "The Sikhs In History by Bhai Sangat Singh, Pages 3-10).
  5. Sat Sri Akal: SinghMunda Sahib, Guru's Langar is Beant (infinite). Don't worry too much about it running out. I have noticed that there is somehow never a shortage of Langar (usually overflowing with food!) and never a shortage of sewadaars. Guru Sahib makes full arrangements for Sadh Sangat!

Sat Sri Akal: Narsinga Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh was also a King of his domain. Guru Sahib details that the Chandi Vaar is a translation of Markande Purana. It is a translation of ancient texts and Guru Sahib also translated other works of Sanskrit (Ramayana and Mahabarata). But that is what it was, translations...done for people who requested him to do so or perhaps to give the public access to texts long hoarded by Brahmins. Now I have one question for you...when the entire text of Guru Granth Sahib details worship for the ONE Almighty, when the origional compositions of Guru Sahib praise the one Almighty...why would Guru Sahib worship Durga? When Ganjnama, written by his close associate Bhai Nand Lal, states that Avatars worship Guru Sahib, why would Guru Sahib do otherwise? When the Almighty itself radiated through the Guru Sahib, what need would he have to worship or appease Durga with sacrifices?

Sat Sri Akal: First...Bhai Fateh Singh. You are claiming that Tankahnama is not an authentic writing of Bhai Nand Lal Sahib. Please, provide some evidence. Second, Bhai Narsinga, let us take Durga Puja for instance. Many authors have referred to Guru Gobind Singh invoking Kalka upon the creation of the Khalsa. However, Bhai Nand Lal Sahib's work Ganjnama (available at http://www.zafarnama.com) states that Guru Sahib could command the Avatars, that the Avatars desired darshan of Guru Sahib and that the Avatars were the Guru's servants. Not to mention that the entire Guru Granth Sahib is dedicated to the thought of the one Almighty, not secondary dieties. Therefore, the concept of Durga Puja is invalid. Second thing, Bhai Sahiban, how do you think Singh Sabha movement (Lahore) succeeded in becoming such a huge influence on Sikhism? It was through logical arguement and analysis of all the history present and then making a decision on what is in line with Gurbani. People are not that stupid. They will listen to reason and did. The Singh Sabha (Lahore) wrote book after book telling WHY things were not in line with Sikhism...not just believing everything that history details. Hence its success. Singh Sabha (Amritsar - aka. Santanis) had the same opportunity to do so...why did their movement not succeed? Perhaps they had nothing convincing to say?

Sat Sri Akal: And what can be deemed "authentic"? What books are you referring to and who wrote them? Sikhism, after the passing of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib, entered a very dark academic era because of the continuous conflict with the Mughals. The majority of the Sikh Panth was fighting the Mughals, leaving nobody to give a Sikh account of what was happening. Who can we consider reliable? And who did write books during that time? Koer "Singh" (aka. Bishan Chand) - a Vaishnavite Hindu writer of the Gurbilas Patshahi 10 - man who invented the Durga Puja myth. Also writer of the 41 "Bhai Gurdas" Vaar, which inculdes references to Kalka (Durga). Kesar "Singh" Chibber - a Barhmin writer of Bansavali Nama - elaborates on the Durga myth. Sarup Das Bhalla - writer of Mehma Parkash, who tries to improve the image of Prithi Chand, Dhir Mal and their progeny. And who but Mahants were in charge of the Gurudwaras during this time. Their practices included idol worship INSIDE Gurudwaras and conducting Hindu rituals. How much consideration for the Sikh identity could they have had? So Bhai Fateh Singh, who do I trust? And the follow-up question to that is, Why Should I trust any of them when most of what they write is against Gurbani?

Sat Sri Akal: By the way...to claim that Kavi Santokh Singh Sahib's Suraj Parkash is without errors and should be considered the absolute version of Sikh History is irresponsible. Bhai Vir Singh comments on the Suraj Parkash (now someone is going to bad-mouth Bhai Vir Singh...sigh). Kavi Santokh Singh was a gifted poet who was hired by a Sikh Raja (can't remember name) to write an account of Sikh history, which up to that point was in many volumes and oral history. Kavi Sahib not only researched various texts, but also went around collection oral history. Kavi Sahib wrote down everything he was able to gather, but he did not necessarily cross-reference with the Guru Granth Sahib to see if what he is writing is in line with Gurbani.
  11. Sat Sri Akal: Umm...would not non-violence have been pioneered by Guru Arjun Dev Sahib, who sat on a Tatti Tavi?

  13. Sat Sri Akal: Cause 107 was taken... Actually, it denotes the number of religious books and texts the person has read...kinda like a nerdy bragging right that some Sants have. Some family names come from this (ex. Trivedi - their ancestor read three Vedas).
  14. Sat Sri Akal: Wait a minute...Sarbloh website states that Nirmalae were not given amrit. Who's right here, hmmm?
  15. Sat Sri Akal: lalleshvari Sahib, NEVER EVER call a member of sadh sangat or a sewadaar an "idiot".
  16. Sat Sri Akal: Yes...an unfortunate addiction to gaming I have...
  17. Sat Sri Akal: Want to meditate. Download some files from below (all onto CD if possible), choose one that suits you, sit down, listen, focus your mind on the simran. http://www.sikhkids.com/akhandjaap.htm (Link courtesy of A_Singh_But_Cant_Sing).
  18. Sat Sri Akal: Sure, and after you get AIDS, have 18 children and are hopelessly addicted to Heroin, then what? Vade Ai Ganju Jaye...
  19. Sat Sri Akal: Jevoha's Witnesses Solution: Invite them in and have a long talk. You might end up educating THEM (most know nothing about Sikhism, and the few that do are mostly mis-informed). Gurpreet Kaur Ji had a great suggestion. Post the questions or points here so that they can be responded to. P.S. Muhammed Sahib was illiterate, but so what? He knew in detail about the contents of the Old and New Testament and commented about the religions in the Qua'ran. So do not equate illiterate with ignorant. It will work against you in a discussion. Malang Sahib, patience, patience. You can always yell a jakara in front of them to scare them off first
  20. Sat Sri Akal: Try this link: http://www.gurugranthdarpan.com/GuruGranth...hib%20Singh.pdf It is in the Gurmukhi Only section of the website.
  21. Sat Sri Akal: A common occurance in a nearby town to where I live. A lot of Punjabi people who complain time and time again that their kids are dating, partying etc. Then you have a look at the parents. What do they do? Party, drink, try to be more "American" (read as abandon their cultural roots). What do you think the kids are going to do? Even had one story of a family whose kid ran away with a girl. His father stated that he would "straighten him out" aka. beat the living life out of him if he ever saw him. Then you look at the dad, an alcoholic. Gee, what did you think your kid was going to do?
  22. Sat Sri Akal: Parchar within the community is needed. You guys get Muslims asking questions, we in the U.S. get Jehovah's Witnesses asking questions. Not really their fault. They are opportunists. It is the lack of a basic Sikh understanding that is needed. Now, what is needed are ideas to impart that understanding. P.S. Simply beating people might drive off MORE Sikhs to other religions!
  23. Sat Sri Akal: 1)Listen to Gurbani Kirtan, close eyes, focus all attention to it and you are meditating. Do it as long as possible (if its days, go for days!).
  24. Sat Sri Akal: Ahem...(clears throat, getting to deliver a serious answer). ______________________ It is characteristic of the higher primates to use tools and other things in their environment to live in the world. Take the chimps, for example. They will use a twig, shove it down a termite nest and fish out termites for a snack. These same chimps will also pull and bend tree branches together to make a bed of leaves for their nightly rest. Are these chimps going against the command of the Lord or a natural life? No. Rather, these animals are using the intellect that was given to them by the Almighty to survive in the wild. Similarly, clothing is a human adaptation that is a product of their God-given intellect. It is not un-natural, but in fact, very natural, as the human is simply exercising its natural talent (hence the large cerebrum). ______________________________ Thus ends Dr. Singh's Science Lesson #: 11211.
  25. Sat Sri Akal: Why do we kill living beings? To satisfy our hunger. Why clothes? Cause it's cold. The body has its needs. As per Sikhism...Guru Sahib stated that Sikhs should wear a kachera (which is an article made of cloth...hence clothing). Guru Sahib got his orders from the Big Guy. And you do NOT question the Big Guy! Kapish? ( ). Sangat Ji, be happy!
