  1. Thanks for the info Chatanga. Though you can throw all the pro-meat or neutral-meat Sikh history at Veggie Brigade. They are rigid in their ways, without any ability to look at other views. SOund familiar? .....a bit like the some muslim fanatics.

  3. Oh when will Sikh fundamentalists stop from pestering us lesser sikhs from eating meat, tying up our dhari and for plucking our eyebrows and not tying 'gurmukhi dastaars'! WIth all the holier than thou finger pointing when do they get the time to do bhajan-bandgi?
  4. most sikh/indian owned meat shops in that area state they are chatka. Though i beleive what they are really refering to is that they are 'non-halal'.
  5. there is some anecdotal evidence that using iron or copper vessels help by leaching its essence into the foodstuff. But I believe ingesting the iron , copper is better. I use copper bracelets myself and know of many elite level atheles who do the same. But for most of us wearers its a case of 'no harm in trying' and it looks nice! The same is with using iron vessels, there is no harm in trying.
  6. IMO to majority of sikhs you don't need any more scholarly thoughts than to jap nam, learn vaja/tabla sur/tals, memorise the names of gurus and famous shaheeds, know how to find gurbani, SGPC rehet nama on your ipad and to know that India, Hindu, Brahimin = Bad, keep away. Any more than that they cant intellectually digest.
  7. LOL you are right. such filthy manmaty thoughts HSD1. no wonder we haven't got khalistan yet. Much better thought....someone else is your wife!!!!!
  8. Doh.....must be in wrong religion! You mean there are nooooo exemption clauses anywhere in the rehet contract smallprint???
  9. But they do write books with 'new' knowledge. I have heard of Nirmalas, and maybe also Udasis, who gather at Benares to debate their newly released granths. Not the mass printed stuff, but the ones where they only print a few copies to give out to other scholars. Now the fact that they are 1. Nirmalas , 2. go to places like benares well away from the 'educated' Pendus of Punjab and 3. writing about stuff that most sikhs consider Hindu, probably goes to explain why they are not widely known at all.
  10. Thank god for that!!!!!! I was thinking that PRE-maritals were also forbidden! Phew!
  11. Anyone here use moustache wax? Any recommendations? Not the Simco Fixo stuff, but proper Beeswax stuff that the Belgian detective wears, whats his name.
  12. Oh and before someone mentions it, the idea of wearing iron karas is a 'Khalsa urban myth'. It wont help you much.
  13. Its usually difficult for the body to absorb iron from pills. The reason is that its sourced from inorganic stuff ie metal iron. Iron from living beings ie organic iron eg red meat or plants like saag/palak are better absorbed; in other words have better bio-availabilities. Iron supplements are made from the cheapest ingredients. You have two options: 1. Double or treble your daily dosage. This will allow more iron to enter the system. But this may also bring other problems with it such as iron toxicity by having too much iron floating about in the digestive system. Also over dosing on the rubbish they out in tablets as fillers. preservatives, and stabilisers. But at least you will be As Hard As Nails!!!!! 2. Better option is to massively increase your intake of green leafy vegetation and/or non-processed red meat. Ideally meat is better than vegetables. In other words having this stuff in every meal.
  14. Maybe its because those people have some kind of doubt at the back of thier mind that their prays wont be granted. If you have the slightest doubt, hesitance, or 'what if' then you are setting yourself up for fail. Most people dont understand the idea of 'burning your bridges'. Their ardas/prays - though they spend a lot of time, effort and money on it, are really a 'just in case' supplication.
  15. For osteoarthritic symptoms I would recommend you try SUPAFLEX by NutriLabs. http://www.nutrilabs.biz/supaflex2.html It contains Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM. You can get it from other makers/brands, but I found this to be the most effective. They used to sell them at GNC however I believe they've stopped stocking the brand. If you cant get this stuff, just buy the quality individual supplements of these three ingredients. and take them. Follow the dosage guidelines in terms of building up and tapering to maintenance dose. If you eat animal products try KRILL OIL. Its similar to fish oil but only better bio-availability/quality of Omega 3. \probably difficult to get and expensive. For anti-inflammatory eat plenty of ginger in your food. Or make 'ginger curry'. Make turka as normal, Grate ginger, add it to turka along with water (tarri). Bring to boil, then let it simmer for a while. Bon appetit. Oh, also add plenty of garlic to it - unless your going on a date, then leave it out. Another is a smoothie made with celery, ginger and pineapple. Just chop up and throw in blender with a bit of apple juice or water to thin it down a bit. Pineapple contains Bromalin which is good for joints. Its concentration is found in the fibrous centre of the fruit. The hard part that most people throw away! So add that in. One you start getting better. if you dont already do it, start gentle running on grass in the park. Do it barefoot!
  16. Chatanga refer to my posts at the begining of this thread. The stuff that you buy from your local indian store is nothing more than food coloring and flavouring. It is good for your normal dahl-sabji. If you want it for medicinal purposes then order it from your uncleji from India. Ask for freshly ground kachi haldi. BTW, Your a bit young for arthritis aren't you? Is it normal wear and tear or sports related? I may prescribe something else for that.
  17. I'm sure all you guys have heard about the 'insult' by Leno re: Harmandir Sahib. Its all over the mainstream western media. I'm feeling a bit dazed and confused.com here. I just thought it was a plain joke made by leno and/or his scriptwriters. The only thing I would complain about is the taste/quality of his humour/joke. Afterall, he is an American humouring an American audience. I may be missing something. But where is the insult that caused such a scandal and 'hurt the sentiments' of SIkhs and Indians? Presently ,I do feel that we are all a bunch of big girls blouses and wusses. SOmeone, help me out here......
  18. ....and why do you think that is? I'd say its because we Panjabis/Indians still have a 'collective concious'. We still have that group mentality, whereby if an individual member of the group makes a mistake we ALL feel responsible for allowing that mistake to occur. In western (Euro/American) 'individualistic' society this tends not to occur. Though we are also heading down that western route. This is at least one positive about desi culture, and one that is noted by western society as well.
  19. taking this 'denial' thing further, philosophically. I do believe that the very first step to achieving mukti is to admit and accept, ie the opposite of denial. Now as we can see, the world, inc Sikhs are avid practitioners of the art of 3D {dismiss, deny, derail}. If we as individuals and a kaum cannot accept and admit our shortcomings both material and spiritual then what is the possibility of ever attaining mukti.? If denial is a measuring rod to see a persons/kaums avastha then good lord we have a loooong way to go!
  20. Isn't the denial scenario similar to what we Sikhs and others are adept at? Whether it is caste, child slaughter, sex discrimination etc. If someone is found doing that and it becomes public knowledge we simply brush it off by stating they 'they are not real sikhs' or 'our holy book gives us equality and they are doing manmat' or 'its only a few misguided people'. Ultimately, you can give it whatever title you want or cover it however you want to or justify it how you can, the reality is that it does happen.
  21. well now you know what to read in the mornings when you struggle to get out of bed. But having said that, I dont believe its an issue that effects all indo's who go to mideast. Many have their own successful business there. I remember reading, during the first gulf war, the gold industry in these countires are controlled by the desi people. Again it is all down to EDUCATION. I recall a panjabi saying, to paraphrase it: those who are not successful at home wont be successful elsewhere. Most of these downtrodden desi people that we here about in UK, Mideast who are having problems are usually the poorly educated people back home. Or at least they are not worldly-wise.
  22. ....and I thought compensation culture was an american import!
  23. To 'commemorate' the opening of the new Gurdwara in Dubai, i'll give you an interesting article about the side of Dubai most people ignore. its a long article, so i'll just post a link. http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/johann-hari/the-dark-side-of-dubai-1664368.html
