  2. Errrrr if i sounded rude (which i think i did) then sorry bro!
  3. According to shastar-vidiya.org the buddha dal was an organisation set up by baba buddha ji. Hence the buddha dal and the nihangs have been around since the times of guru nanak dev ji..right?? However, im confused, because ive stumbled accross some manuscripts (persian sources) which have been compiled together by bhagat singh (punjab university,ma.phd.) and according to those sources (as well as the viewpoint of bhagat singh), the origins of the buddha dal are at the hands of nawab kapur singh; a prominent leader of the singhpuria misal. According to him (in light of his sources im assuming) it was he who set up the tarna dal, and the buddha dal (for men over 40) where the latter were responsible for the administrative tasks of of the panth i.e. upkeeping of gurudwarai, etc and the tarna dal were responsible for fighting against the mughal/afghan government. Kapur singh was responsible for setting the above system up and also for the formation of the misals (to counter the countless jathas which had formed; he wanted the sikhs to unite/solidify under a handful of able leaders.) Im confused, what are the origins of the buddha dal, and were they all exclusively nihang singhs? (Note: there was a misal called the nihang or shahidi misal, which to me implies the nihangs, even then, were a minority, and werent the benchmrk for all khalsa sikhs.) Thanks in advance!
  4. Your right neo, but for people like yourself who arent near an akhara, its important to learn SOMETHING (at the very least do some punch-bag work.) Hint Hint mr singh!
  5. sat sriiiiiiii akaaaaaaaaaaaaaal (i thought ganm was a nice person until i saw all his/her posts..not very impressed)
  6. Cheers sukhi..ur absolutely right. Thanks for the advice! LoL i was a little gloomy but im okay now. I realise that people will always be people! And hukkam will always have to be accepted with a smile.
  7. Yeah but imagine how lethal someone like gurdev nihang nidar singh would be when he has his shastars (which he carries, as a nihang, all the time)!!!
  8. P.S pheena, i agree that people will be inspired if we ourselves are a reflection of the wonders of god. Its just sad that even the gurus, who were those transformed beings, were subjected to such harsh realities..sikhs who would sell their clothes to pay for langar (such love) whose heads were severed for money..simple folk who died for the kingdom of the sikhs, at the hands of so called allies..then our own hindu brothers, turning against us in recent times..seems even those who have had the privalege of meeting these transformed souls, in the end, succumb to their vices. But i see where ur coming from..ultimately, youre right. Its just hard to follow i guess. Life goes on!
  9. I thought ganm was just being funny cos penji mentioned transformation. Anyways thanks for your post all1..much appreciated!
  10. No worries bro! (sorry for the inconvinience!) Gurfateh
  11. The mughal empire and its attack on "hinduism" and the hindustani people; As we all know, the sikhs were subjected to the most horrid of ordeals, and the gurus themselves (along with their family members) were victims. Severed sikh heads were rewarded with money!! Such was the regard mughals had for the sikhs. The period of maharaja duleep singh and queen victoria is quite a fascinating, and rather heart breaking period during which the punjab was raped of its riches, and the sikh kingdom was occupied by the foreign rulers, christian missionaries flourished, and non educated white men took responsibility of government positions. The partition of india; as we all know, the sikhs suffered greatly at the hands of muslims (however the sikhs were also guilty of bloody retaliation); arguably this was because of the division the british raj period had stirred in the minds of the people. Then the khalistan movement/period..the akal takht was attacked (irrespect of its size) and the sikh people were treated in most vile ways; murders, raping, looting, etc was prevailent in most hindu populated areas. Sikhs were labelled terrorists and prior to all the events above, they were provocated in many instances. Then of course we have modern legislations which completely disreguard the relegious identity of the sikhs (despite it being integral to their faith,) the communal tensions (moreso amongst the youth,) the common (however expected) racism, which is prevalent in most countries (towards sikhs,) the disrespect or lack of respect shown towards sikh holy shrines/places of importance (such as the upkeeping of gurudwarai in pakistan) etc etc. Although im at that often occuring period of bhagti/spirituality (where naam is ever satisfying to the heart and soul) i cant help but become anxious and full of so many thoughts when reading the painful accounts of what sikhs as a people have had to face, and continue to face today. It seems there is an ongoing struggle for the sikhs as a people..what are we missing..what can we do to stop history repeating itself? What can we do to stop this trend (or so it seems) of being treated like second class citizens? And is it wrong (in light of gurbani) to turn a blind eye to obvious traits in the universal society and focus on our spiritual lives, within our own little communities?? As a general observation, it seems, in general, the sikh community has lost the balance of bhagti with shakti (shakti being a metaphor for socio-political activeness) or finds it quite natural to fit, extremely, in one of the above states of mind (with few exceptions of course.) Shouldnt we strive to make changes in the world?? Or is this drama out of our power?? Couldnt/shouldnt we push more sikh youth into political fields, since the pen IS mightier than the sword?? I cant help but be extremely frustrated at this moment in time..what can i do to help this struggle?? How can i contribute in making the sikh community move forward?? I guess i pose these questions for everyone in my position..because its all fine and dandy leading spiritual lives and being cosey in our communal gatherings, but what is this doing on a world wide scale?? For me, nothing. I want to help us move forward..i need some direction!! I think as a community we need direction. (Looks at drawof and lalleshvari, btw gurfateh singh, sorry i havent been in touch!)
  12. singh man..lol u need to learn how to take pictures! or next time let drawof take them!

  14. dont go cos theres loadsa women there..makes u think lustful. also theres alot of ego cos theres people ur age..who might be trying to throw their weight around. not forgetting the older lot (the odd few) who end up doin ur besti (and make u feel angry.) and its bad cos u end up feeding a bad mans pocket (usually.) and the music takes u away from god (not that u can hear it, cos everyones talking.) no one has their mind on god really, so why go there?? sound familiar? thats the local gurudwara..f-in club..dharamsala..park,etc..does it matter..conquer ur MIND!!
  15. A true warrior fights against his mind on a daily basis and becomes victorious! Im not implying im one of those blessed souls, but as a point, i lived in a pretty rough area all my life (much more rougher than derby 8) ) and i never had any problems from any thugs..any criminals..etc etc. However, in hindsight, i wish i had learnt a martial art for self defence..JUST incase. I think its mere stupitidy to say we should shun violence in the age of kalyug. Avoiding it is one thing..but trying to pretend it doesnt exist or saying it should never be resorted to is ridiculous. I think its sickening a man would rather watch his family be beaten and raped just for the sake of avoiding violence..being a witness to such acts is a sin in itself. I guess thats why the gurus mocked the jains and brahmins (and where we as sikhs, hopefully beg to differ.) Similarly, i think its immoral to use relegious war (which was justified at the time) to feed our vices. Too many "relegious" people hide behind their relegious garms, only to feed their vices. I think its a personal battle only the said person can answer for themselves, and ultimately fight themselves. If ones intentions are pure, then there is nothing wrong with learning the art of shastar vidiya, or any art of combat for that matter. If its to feed any of the vices..i.e. anger..ego,etc..then it should be avoided. GanM i agree with some of your views..but i think its too simplistic to apply in todays day and age. Violence isnt a good thing..the gurus never said this. Im not certainly not saying this. However, it exists. We shouldnt embrace it, rather we should learn how to use it as an effective means of protection. And your point regarding the kirpan..the kirpan IS beautiful..it is one of countless gifts the guru gave to his disciples..nothing more nothing less. Please dont lesssen the worth of these priceless gifts with your insensitive views (in some parts.) I dont particularly have a thing for long hair or keeping everything natural i.e. not cutting my toe nails or not cutting the grass in the garden..but this doesnt lessen the love or meaning the kesh has for me, as a sikh. Similarly those who love the guru sincerely will take all of his gifts as tokens of love..your posts disrespecting the kirpan, a gift which he bestowed on us mortals (one of five physical gifts), is rather offensive..and its sad youve confused the virtue of compassion with non violence..my dear friend, you may not be one to carry medieval daggers..and practise martial arts..but your approach to the sentiments of other human beings is poor..you may not cut the flesh of living creatures..but brother, your words have pierced my soul. Whats worse? I think rather than trying to mould the conscience of other people..we all need to self reflect. This is where the modern relegious man is failing..he preaches and preaches..but he hasnt realised the truth for himself (this applies to everyone including me, who likes to think they have the answers!)
  16. lol@drawof, u shouldnt have told everyone that!! i can just picture a small singh with a little joora cutting up poo with his croyola pen

  19. i agree with sexy singh! who cares man..why are people so insecure..if punjabi gurls find monai attractive then good for them..most singhz i know dnt find singhnia attractive, so its pretty much the same thing..both parties are "descriminating" based on looks.
