  1. https://www.thenationalnews.com/world/asia/2024/01/05/india-somalia-navy-liberian/ The INS Chennai, a guided missile destroyer and part of India's maritime force to protect shipping in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean, was sent to the scene of the hijacking attempt, along with maritime patrol aircraft, the navy said on Friday. It said its aircraft had been monitoring the ship's movements while the INS Chennai sailed towards it. “The aircraft overflew the vessel on early morning of January 5, 2024, and established contact with the vessel, ascertaining the safety of the crew,” the navy said. The crew of the Liberia-flagged MV Lila Norfolk notified the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations of the attack on Thursday. The UKMTO said “five to six unauthorised armed persons have boarded a merchant vessel in the vicinity of Eyl”, a town on Somalia's coast. The vessel was destined for Khalifa bin Salman Port in Bahrain, according to British maritime security company Ambrey. This incident took place during an increase in pirate attacks and an alleged deal between extremist Al Shabab group and Somali pirates in which the militant group will provide protection in exchange for a share of the ransom for captured ships. The group has yet to officially confirm the agreement, but it has threatened an end to a lull in pirate attacks.
  2. Looks like this member https://www.sikhawareness.com/profile/2591-pal-07 with a new account, decided to return and share wisdom with us (for 5 minutes). Well, good while he is/was here
  3. I think critique of Vedas and Devte would be more as that was culturally relevant whereas Christianity was not really present at that time in Indian culture
  4. Well, we at least got @PAL_07 (briefly) in return!
  5. The sellers profit from supplying it repeatedly to same clients, so why are they making it a deadly product ?.
  6. @PAL_07 - do you think the Feds got to him?
  7. I highly advise anyone suffering with aches/pains in muscles and joints to try stretching regularly, I have been doing it semi-regularly for a few months. e.g. neck, thigh, and it has relieved some issues noticeably
  8. Actually, he didn't . My point is that is an unusually high amount of change to give a stranger, most people would not give more than 1 or 2 bucks
  9. These 'Sikhs' in the US are misrepresenting Sikhi, they are no good and possibly 'feds' as @PAL_07 would say. It definitely is NOT allowed. Our Gurus or Puratan Sikhs never directed us to mix our faith with others I believe images are allowed but not involving other faiths. You cannot straddle two boats to make your journey, there is no place in Sikhi for Christian or any other religion's imagery in our Gurdware. No place. If 'targeting' Hispanics they should do street parchaar and do it outside the Gurdwara. We are not supposed to be some hippy 'new age' faith.
  10. Screen limiting thing will be difficult for me for next couple of weeks but definitely after that I will have a look at the screen time-limiting thing. Two hours on the phone is too much unless it includes listening Gurbani
  11. That’s a shame if you start an interesting thread and then we cannot learn more
  12. What is your theory on what happened to Bhai Avatar Singh Khanda - poisoned at a restaurant? I avoid eating out personally, even though I am vegetarian I have had disproportionately high number of food poisoning from the times I have eaten in restaurants Do you have any predictions for Sikh issues, geopolitics and domestic issues affecting UK, Europe, N America and Indian subcontinent for 2024? Thanks
  13. You don't absolutely need gym for exercise, but I know its difficult for exercise in the cold outdoors in winter. Running is good and I am planning to start this again soon. Have you made a plan for these, how you will do each one? 'Control my diet' is very vague For me, it will be reducing my screen time outside of work. Anyone got any advice on how they have done that successfully?
  14. What do you think about me and other members here, posting on this site? Obviously can be monitored by Intelligence but we are not doing anything too serious here Can a VPN connection not be tracked too?
  15. Are you for real? Some of this stuff seems a little 'out there' Definitely agree with many of the points though
  16. Southampton mother and son jailed over wedding money plot https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-67806957 A mother and son have been jailed for conspiring to steal £8,000 that was collected to pay for a wedding. Women from the Sikh community were counting the money in September when an armed man burst into the Southampton address and took the cash, police said. One of the women - Kalwant Kaur, 41, of Union Road - pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle and was jailed at Southampton Crown Court for 15 months. Jung Singh Lankanpal, 22, was jailed for 30 months for the same offence. Lankanpal, of the same address as his mother, also admitted possession of an imitation firearm. Police said a getaway car, which was used in the raid in Clovelly Road on 15 September, was traced to Kaur, leading to the pair's arrests. Det Con Jess Swift said: "Kaur and Lankanpal made a cold and callous decision to steal such a large sum of money from people they knew, money which was meant to help people in their community. "Despite Kaur trying to present herself as a witness to a crime, it was quickly established she had used her knowledge to help orchestrate this burglary. "I hope this provides the local community some reassurance and gives them some justice for what happened."
  17. I agree, it's not good. But a lot of people from India seem to cause problems with in-laws or leave their marriage quickly because they were not committed to start with Paks are a lot worse than our people with 'honor killings' etc though. Italian court jails parents for life over 'honour killing' of Pakistani teen
  18. https://metro.co.uk/2023/12/21/man-strangled-estranged-wife-ran-escaped-20010142/ Man strangled his estranged wife before running her over when she escaped Comment Sarah HooperPublished Dec 21, 2023, 2:12pm A man who was caught on CCTV strangling his estranged wife before running her over in his car has been jailed for six years. Varinder Singh, 28, was caught on camera strangling his ex-wife into a ‘semi-consciousness state’ in the car park of a shopping centre in Bradford, West Yorkshire. His ex-wife was seen struggling with Singh, who had his hands on her throat, before she fell on the floor and stiffened. Singh then bundled her into the backseat of his car before making a dash from the Broadway shopping centre. In a second CCTV clip, the woman is seen trying to escape on the car park ramp before Singh turned his motor round and ploughed into her, knocking her down The sickening attack only came to an end when fellow shoppers jumped out of their car and intervened, restraining Singh until police arrived. Singh could be seen strangling his wife before running her over (Picture: SWNS) Singh was detained by a group of men before police arrived (Picture: SWNS) Singh was held by police after a group of young men detained him at the scene of the incident. Recorder of Bradford Bryan Cox KC said it was ‘pure good fortune’ that the woman didn’t suffer any serious physical injuries, and jailed Singh for six years. He said: ‘The reality is that this was serious violence committed in the context of a relationship in which you sought to control and dominate your wife. ‘It is self-evident from what you did and indeed from your victim’s statement that these offences will have a lasting and profound effect upon her. ‘The CCTV shows you driving your motor car at your victim at some speed. You plainly intended to inflict serious injury. ‘It is a matter of pure good fortune that you did not cause much greater physical injuries
  19. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html Family who 'doused bride in chemicals' and 'force-fed her pills' that left her in a vegetative state because she 'failed to meet their expectations' after coming from Pakistan for an arranged marriage are convicted of abuse Ambreen Fatima Sheikh, 38, can breathe unaided but has suffered 'irretrievable' brain damage that has left her with no consciousness of the world around her. The court heard the probable explanation for her condition was that she had unwillingly swallowed tablets prescribed to her diabetic mother-in-law that resulted in a hypoglycaemic attack. Such tablets are extremely dangerous if taken by non-diabetics and have been dubbed 'one pill killers' to small children. The prosecution case was that the tablets were not taken voluntarily and by then the socially isolated and vulnerable Ambreen had suffered a 'pattern of violence' behind the closed doors of the terraced house in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, she shared with her husband, parents-in-law and brother and sister-in-law.
