Computer Game Sikh Versus Mughals

The new Punjabi independent Raj is ruled by a Sikh dynasty. Even if they're a minority on their own lands, Sikhs have a firm grip on Punjabi society. They have strong military traditions coming from their religion (every Sikh is a warrior at heart) but are also opened to modern warfare technologies and techniques. They have adopted the discipline of western armies and hired european officers to train and modernize their small but excellent army.

IRH The Sikhs have developed their own battle formations for line infantry and in many cases they're the Prussians of India. However, they didn't renounce the traditional indian warfare involving melee combat. Every Sikh adult male is a Lion ("Singh") trained in the art of the Saber. Their skills and courage makes them superior to Mughal and Hindu Swordsmen.

Sikh Musketeers waiting for battle. Note the mix of modern equipment and traditional war gear such as breastplates and sabers used in melee.

However, like the Marathas, the Punjab army has a majority of Hindu soldiers. Punjab can line up Bargir Line Infantry and all kinds of Indian cavalry, from heavy lancers to light scout raiders. They also have access to modern artillery, especially mortars.

Next article/update: strategic situation in the LE campaign (+tips) and if you're interested more details on the Punjab Sikh Army (screens, roster, stats...) just let me know ~BP

Ahh, I remember this game. It's called Empire:Total War. The total war series is a set of computer games where the player gets to play as rival factions in different historical periods. There have been games set in Shogunate Japan, imperial rome and medieval europe. Empire Total War takes place during the 18th/19th century but the only indian factions that are playable are the maratha empire and the mughal empire. Mysore and Punjab are not playable unless you edit some code for the game's starpos main file (which is what i did when i first got it B) ). This was a few years ago so if anyone wants to buy the game they wont find it in the shops but only through Steam ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/10500/ ). I can help anyone who wants to unlock the Punjab to make our faction playable.

Having said that there are only 2 sikh units in the game; Sikh Swordsmen or Sikh Musketeers. Both of which seem to reflect the sikh military pre-1799. There arent even any Akhali units, which only adds to the disappointment. But i recently came across this:

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=390817&highlight=sikh

A bunch of die hard fans who still play the game have set up a thread where they are trying to create a mod that will give the sikh empire a bit more historical accuracy (and some more god damn units!). A mod is a set of files that replace original files in a game in order to change certain features of the game. Most of the kids on that thread arent sikh so dont go too hard on them but they would probably appreciate any historical information that the wise old men on this forum can provide them.

read a little more history about  feudal and semi feudal punjabi society. learn about the janjua rebellion against sikhs and how the lahore durbar betrayed them and hari singh nalwa tortured two rajput chieftains to death as they refused to stop rebelling. the janjuas rebelled because the lahore durbar tried to usurp their lands right after the janjuas had helped them in fighting foreign muslims. janjuas were vastly outnumbered and gave sikhs a formidable fight.

jamwal rajputs under mian dido were also outnumbered and defeated sikh contingents numerous times.

sikhs allied with bharatpur lost to an exclusively rajput army of jaipur.

raikot rais (rajputs who were gifted ganga sagar) were betrayed by sikhs. sikhs forgot the benevolence the rajputs offered their guru and led by the bedi at amritsar came to a gurmatta that they should attack raikot for imposing jiziya tax. rajputs fought sikhs 4-1 and almost won until the leader was shot.

later sikhs attacked raikot again and patiala and ghorewaha rajputs came to their aid and pushed the sikhs back beyond sutlej and received titles of mansur-i-zaman.

so dont try to say sikhs were better soldiers than hindus.

also:

1. original sikhs were hindus.. read your sardars' histories.

2. based on the sikh sardars lives, its easy to see how gurbani was really interpreted before singh sabha.

3. sikhs have often almost lost battles even though they outnumbered their enemies as i just mentioned a few stories above.

but its good that you have majority of punjab army as hindu here, because thats how it actually was. sikh was just a section of hindu society.

as sikhs left shiv shakti, they lost everything. their flags of shakti/devi have been stolen and they no longer know why the khanda is their symbol... a truly subjugated peoples.

Admin note: We obviously don't agree with your ridiculous stereo typical post above. We are only approving this message so that your post gets rebuttal from historians here.

Awww... look at Mr. Purshuram defending his Rajput retainers... "Brahminism zindabaad!?"

1. There is no mention of "Bajjar Rathore" or "Alam Chauhan" in any credible contemporary source.

2. Janjuas are a Muslim tribe of the "salt range" with a relatively recent "Rajputized" history - most of the stories of their "ancient Kshatriya Rajput heritage" were invented in the 20th century. It's the colonial obsession with Rajputization/Kshatryafication of anything/everything. This allowed them to mobilize groups against stronger post-17th centuries sovereign groups that actually held tangible military power like the Sikhs, Jaats, Marathats.

Lord Lake defeated all the Rajput kingdoms in 3 months. Until he arrived at Bharatpur ruled by "mleccha" (or so-called "shudra") Jatts. They also struggled against the "shudra" Marathas. THe British struggled against the Sikhs AND the Mughals...

BUT NOBODY STRUGGLED AGAINST THE "Kshatriya" RAJPUTS. THEY WERE TOO EASY.

3. Raikot "Rais" were basically self styled "Rajputs" who invented an ancient past. They were a bunch of highwayman of the "Manj" tribe who came to power when their chief was offered the Faujdari of Jalandhar Doab alongside the Qasur Afghans of Jalandhar - to DEFEAT THE SIKHS.

4. The Rajputs of Jaipur one against Sikhs + Bharatpur because of their exclusive alliance with the Mughals - hence they also had additional Turkish/Central-Asian/Mughal troops and Afghans help them out by the masses.

Rajputs were only good at lower and mid-level command of Mughal forces, higher level command was always with the far superior Mughals and Afghans... whom the SIKHS and the JAATS defeated.... Rajput were too busy trying to make deals to promote their self-aggrandisement agenda.
