Gurmat Tradition Of Recitation

Recommended Posts

Listening to the below recitation of Shiva Sahasranama (it made me think of Jaap Sahib) I wondered what the reason is that Sikhism does'nt have a tradition of recitation like we see in the Islamic and Vedic tradition?

Is it because Sikhism came in en age of litteracy which means that the purpose of oral traditions etc. was not as strong a need as it was in the two other traditions where litteracy was uncommon.

I did hear a recitation in the vedic style on Sikh TV on Guru Nanaks sanskrit salokas.. haven't been able to find it on youtube though

what irony .I have that exaact clip saved to my computer. I find listening to it quite 'cosmic'.

If you do ever come across the SGGS saloks recited puratan style, please point it out.

If akhand paths were recited in a similar fashion it would take days to complete. WHo would be able to do that?
