dalsingh101 Posted March 15, 2011 Report Share Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) my kids and most of other canadian born kids seem to be unable to say letter ਝ. maybe due to too much exposure to english and not enough to punjabi. neither can they say ਭ, instead it is pronounced ਪ. ਭੰਗੜਾ is spoken ਪੰਗੜਾ, ਭਾਅਜੀ is spoken ਪਾਅਜੀ. ਚੱਜ is mostly spelt ਚੱਜ and sometimes ਚੱਝ. If I recall rightly the predominant language we learn seems to practically acclimatise our ears to hear sounds in certain 'ranges'. Different languages have different ranges and becoming accustomed to one seems to make it difficult to hear and replicate what appear to be super subtle differences in another. For example I struggled with and still struggle with some of the following: The difference between "ਧ" and "ਦ" and these two babies: ੇ ੈ These two seem very close too: ਢ ਥ There are a whole lot more but I don't want to embarrass myself. lol Edited March 15, 2011 by dalsingh101 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
