India not dealing with this type of a problem and it is becoming out of control.............very difficult for females to go alone anywhere.........it is very frightening. No point India economy good when females not safe. Just forget we living in present time and our history not good.

India is doing what it can but the idiot people do this kind of acts. They have not shame when they are caught people treatment is very bad.The police very courrupt and not helping the victim gets blamed. It is alsways these idiots that go and harass the females. Big problem still.

Is India the Rape Capital of the World?

We're horrified by news reports of rape in India and feel lucky we don't live there. But the country with the highest rate of sexual assault isn't India—it's us

Americans are reading with horror as sexual assault after sexual assault unfolds in India. It’s easy to wonder, “What’s wrong with that country?” But we should be asking what’s wrong with the United States, too.

Rape and violence against women are a massive problem in India. According to the country's National Crime Record Bureau, crimes against women have increased by 7.1 percent since 2010. The number of rapes reported has also risen. Nearly one in three rape victims in India is under the age of 18. One in 10 are under 14. Every 20 minutes in India, a woman is raped.

And yet India only ranks third for the number of rapes reported each year. What country ranks first? The United States. In India, a country of over 1.2 billion people, 24,206 rapes were reported in 2011. The same year in the United States, a nation of 300 million, 83,425 rapes were reported. In the United States, every 6.2 minutes a woman is raped.

Even if sexual assault in India is dramatically underreported, which most likely it is, the statistical difference is still striking—as is our uniquely American inclination to dismiss such monstrous human rights violations as problems that other countries face. Not only is violence against women a global pandemic but the United States may be leading the pack.

Oh, but you think, women who've been sexually assaulted in America are better treated. Rape victims in India, especially in rural villages, are often subject to shaming and considered unfit for marriage. But meanwhile, in Steubenville, Ohio, two young men who were convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl too intoxicated to consent continue to be defended as upstanding football players while the reputation of the young woman is smeared. When the verdict was announced, a CNN reporter came close to portraying the rapists as passive victims: “These two young men that had such promising futures, star football players, very good students, literally watched as they believed their lives fell apart.” Other media coverage seemed equally sympathetic to the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the victim was blamed. Early on, one of the 19 coaches of the Steubenville High football team said the victim was just making up the rape. The victim and her family had to get police protection due to the level of threats against them. Two weeks ago, a prominent local activitist in Steubenville spoke about the “alleged victim” (even though the allegations had turned into a conviction) and suggested, according to a reporter, that the victim “might have been a willing participant”. Meanwhile, the woman who broke the story of the rape—she is a local blogger—has been harassed and threatened.

Isolated incident of smearing and shaming the victim? Afraid not. Just weeks after the Steubenville story broke, two high school football players in Torrington, Connecticut were accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. The response? Dozens of people from the town took to social media to berate and blame the 13-year-old accuser.

Don't worry bahan, you have us sikh brothers looking after you. You are right the hindu men are shameless. None of the braggers have bothered to comment because now they know the reality of who they actually are. They are a bunch of morons showing off about their past and not facing the present. They are just living in the past like one billions others in India. Hindu culture is predominantly concupiscent which is further exibited in their famous bollywood movies. That's why this kind of behavior is rampant in hinduland. Filthy braggers.

You are right. Sikh religion teaches us to see every woman like your sister, mother or aunt. Sikhism also teaches us to respect women.

So don't worry bahan. You have sikh brothers here to help you.

Sure, my grandmother tells me great stories about your respect towards moslem women in 47.

I love bollywood movies and hollywood movies. Don't like punjabi movies though - jatt de mustang starring binnu deol, babbu mann and of course neeru bajwa.

And enjoy the Nobel Peace Prize award nights and look on with envy. Even the pakistanis have broken through.

Is India the Rape Capital of the World?

Your attitude is very offensive. Is there a competition in progress to see which country is the 'Rape Capital of the World?' If there is one no one is aware of it. In India there have also been rape incidents involving western tourists and it is not a nice to thing to say lets have a competiton to find out which country is the capital in this crime. Instead of showing sympathy towards the victims you have chosen to be insulting and derogatory in all your comments. Your bad attitude can be sensed by reading your posts. Your comments are enough to tell me what kind of a horrible person you must be in real life. You have no decency to treat the whole matter with sensitivity or kind words. The reason rape incidents are so common in India against those poor helpless women is because of people like you who lack sympathy and insight into what a serious crime this is. You are suppose to accept this problem first then do something to stop it from happening so regularly in India. If you keep making fun and ignoring it you are not doing anything towards stopping it. For this you need strength of character and courage. You don't seem to have either. Why do you need to blow your trumpet about your great history whether it is authentic or not if you can't even sit down and think about the seriousness of this crime? What is the point of having knowledge about your past history if you have not learnt anything from it? Education is suppose to teach us how to deal with our problems and not brush them under the carpet. India needs to sort its problems out and there is no need to show off and compare it with the world's number one country whether it is in terms of its economy or social mobility. I do think India is not what you claim it to be.

Why don't you stop it from happening in the US of A?

It's not competition but statistical reality as the article says. And you still have not pointed out where I joked about rape?

And where are the creators of this thread now? No answer for the United States (sole superpower) being the rape capital of the world? And I

have not even gotten into the sexual deviancy epidemic in jolly ol England.

While I'm at it the US of A has the highest number of people locked up anywhere in the world. Not to mention the fact that

people of colour are disproportionately represented.

A fact completed ignored by the professional protesters on this site.

These people are traitors and house-niggers of the British. They are good for nothing. They are cowards who sit at home making youtube videos listening to songs glorifying their past and often hiding the fact that more rajputs have died fighting than all of sikh history combined and when compared to Hindus, sikhs have a very minimal role in india. the 90% of fighters against the British is an absolute lie thats based on acting like 1857 was not a rebellion (biggest joke of the century). Udham Singh and a few others killed a handful of british officials and their credited with freeing india single-handedly... the rajputs killed over 10 military officials...how about those jodhay? These losers are of no importance whatsoever. They live in england as losers and in canada as well.. no one cares about them. have you seen the MPs they elect here in Canada? who here is from brampton? i know theres at least one coward from brampton here. and if there is someone from brampton here, then he or she should intervene when black/white narratives are mentioned. Everyone who knows sikhs personally, knows that cowardice and stupidity is strongly present in sikhs as in all communities.

Loser where do you live? In Canada so why don't you fcuk off back to your slums in India and try and hook up with the proud Rajput yodhay there. Chances are these Rajput are working as cyber coolies of the whites in call centres getting sworn at by low class whites and having to take these insults to keep their cyber coolie jobs.

I believe Udham Singh was Kamboj. From what I'm told so were the Shahis. Famous Jat historian Professor Babbu Mann

says that Ranjit Singh was Jatt, and so was Porus. So, it must be true

Interestingly, if you go to Pakistan and talk to the Moslems they will point out a HINDU temple from where Ranjit Singh held

court and gave judgments.

Isn't that what you do in England?

Invite me to one of your protests or "meetings" in your basement with other 14 year olds to decide the future of the panth and the masle da hal.

The difference in the Rajput and Jatt are obvious in the two similar battles - Operation Bluestar and the Siege of Chittor.

One lasted nearly 8 months, the other just a mere 2 days.

Not to mention the outright surrender in Operation Black Thunder.
