Wing Tsun - Hand to hand training

Recommended Posts

Wing Chun is similar to the Platha technique that Nihang Niddar Singh teaches and also to one of the "avtars" (name now escapes me) that he demonstrated on the shastarvidiya website.

Wing Tsun is a modern offshoot of traditional Wing Chun, I'll leave the politics aside, but it is simply a case of more focus on the famous Wing Chun "chain" punch than any more serious deviation from core Wing Chun principles.

Very similar to hand to hand training in Shastar Vidya (less the stances), can't think of the Punjabi term for this training, anyone?

There's some very subtle, soft and natural movements that have obviously come after years of practice...

Its smiliar to Bhuj Kohl in Shastar Vidiya as Maha Singh pointed point. While doing Bhuj Kohl your not meant to use strenght (if you do it'll make your shoulder muscles hurt), the idea is to stay sensitive, this is also similar concept within Wing Tsun (Wing Chun). What is interesting is that Wing Tsun was invented by a women and Bhuj Kohl relates to the Chandi Pantara but Bhuj Kohl can be appliyed to other pantaray. In tradtional Wing Tsun, kicks are limited to waist.

"In tradtional Wing Tsun, kicks are limited to waist"

This is actually not true and a common misconception. Kicks are typically aiming at the knee as as a means to "pop" the socket, however the three basic variations practiced are to the knee, from the side and straight up to the hip and/or armpit/exposed ribcage area.

These can all be found in the three main forms of Wing Chun.
