  1. When I do Rehras it ends with "Mahala 5" beginning "Rakhe rakhanhar ap ubarian", and thats how ive always understood it to be, as thats how my parents have done it, how ive heard it at the Gurdwaras and how it is in my Gutkas. But recently ive seen some people end it short with the Mundawani and the salok Mahala 5 beginning "tera kita jato nahi", which means they dont do the Pauree, salok Mahala 5 and Mahala 5. Why is there this variation? Gurfateh!
  2. If I remember correctly, i think I heard it in a diwan of Sant Baba Isher Singh Ji Rara Sahib Waley.
  3. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! These were the shabads of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, which were probably compiled into the Shabad Hazare by Bhai Mani Singh Ji after Guru Gobind Singh Ji. One of these shabads starting "Mittar Pyare.." is said to be compiled by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in the Machiwara jungle. Ive also heard that when Bhai Daya Singh Ji was leaving this world to go to heaven, Guru Gobind Singh Ji said to them to give this shabad as a message to Waheguru from Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
  4. In essence if you play a shabad without the Raag Guru Ji wrote it in, you are ignoring the first two words of the shabad. For example, "Raag Asa Mahala Paihla". Its not right to ignore what Guru Ji has said. Do you think Guru Ji spent time organising and writing Shabads in Raags for no reason? It obviously was done as Guru Ji felt it was important, and playing the Shabad in raag develops the mood and feeling which Guru Ji thought was best for the shabad.
  5. I went to a Nanaksar Gurdwara and their was a golak their to put money in, which I did at the time. But upon leaving the Gurdwara I remembered that its against the principles of the Nanaksar Maryada.
  6. The cause of twitching eyes is stress/anxiety/anxiousness.
  7. Does anyone know a possible source where I can get the rehat that the panj pyara give at Rara Sahib, when u take amrit?
  8. It was Guru Gobind Singh Jis Hukam that we belive in Guru Granth Sahib Ji as Guru, after they left their physical body. It was also Guru Gobind Singh Jis Hukam to keep the 5 K's and to live as a Khalsa, to his Sikhs. Guru Ji appointed Guru Granth Sahib Ji as Guru. People are willing to accept and follow this. But the same Guru also told us to keep the 5 K's, but people keep questioning this? It doesnt make sense, how can you follow one important message of Guru Ji and totally neglect the other?? Hence a Sikh should follow or at a minimal try to follow all of their Guru Ji' hukam. All that call themselves Sikh should always be working towards making themselves in a spiritual and physical state by which they are working towards achieving Khalsa initiation. You cant pick and choose what you like and what you dont like out of the teachings of Guru Sahib!
  9. Quite easily The Chaupai Sahib could have been put at the end of the wrong section. It doesnt match the theme of the rest of Charitropakhyan. Lets not forget, the Dasam Granth wasnt compiled under Guru Gobind Singh Jis supervision or via their instruction. It was done by humans, whom can make mistakes. Them wrtitings could have easily been of the 52 poets of Guru Jis court. A Guru whom gave equal status to women would really write so many bad things about them? Men are equally as bad as women so why didnt they write about men in such a negative way? Additionally, those that say the writings were to help the Khalsa to stay away from women... when i read the writings they didnt seem to serve that purpose. The best way to get rid of ur Lust/Desire for women is via the repeating of Gods name with sincere devotion or to read devotional hymns/prayers.
  10. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! I have a few questions too relating to some of the things touched in this post... i am unable to attend the Snatan Sikhi talks so il just ask them on here.. Guru Ji whom gave the Khalsa Panth everything, would not keep a text that they have written secret. If Guru Gobind Singh Ji had written or wanted Sarbloh Granth as 'Guru', they would have shared it with the entire panth. Do u not agree? Rather than just the Nihangs. Secondly i dont even know how people consider Dasam Granth and Sarbloh Granth as Guru.. It is a known fact that Dasam Granth was compiled after Guru Gobind Singh Ji, so how could have Guru Gobind Singh Ji given it Gurgaddi? If Guru Ji wanted Dasam Granth to be Guru they would have compiled it themselves and given us the hukam. I belive the Bani of the Dasam Granth is much of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, but we cannot give Dasam Granth, "Guru", status cos Guru Gobind Singh Ji appointed Guru Granth Sahib Ji alone as Guru. Another point is the factor people telling me Singhs needed Sarbloh and Dasam Granth for "Bir Ras" to be able to fight. During Guru Hargobind Ji's time, Sikhs had a few battles where they were vastly outnumbered, but they still won the battles. Hope i havent offended anyone. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  11. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! The Damdami Taksal rehat Maryada has the following quote: "The following five K’s are the mark of Sikhi. These five can never be parted from the body. Kara, Kirpan, Kashera, Kangha, recognise these as four of them. The fifth is Kesh, without which the other four are useless. There are also four H’s which must be avoided. Understand this without any doubt, no lies have been told. Hukka, taking tobacco (including any other type of intoxicants). Hajamat, removing of hair. Halalo, eating meat. Haram, adultery (sexual relationships outside of marriage). These are the four H’s. Dyeing of beards (including any other body hair), and the wearing of mehndi (including other types of make up) are strictly forbidden." (Sri Dasam Granth) In which section of the Dasam Granth is this in? Also, the Swaiya and Doihra of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, in Rehras just before Anand Sahib.... where are they from? Thanks for your help
  12. Nope, Nanaksar isnt a sect. Just like Rara Sahib isnt a sect. Nanaksar ardas is just longer than the 'normal' ardas. Lets remember only the first part of the ardas is composed by Guru Ji's. This is the reason the ardas is slightly modified by a lot of people. Obviously you cant change the ardas at the beginning cos that is Guru Gobind Singh Jis writings. Hope that answers your question.
  13. Obviously some adjustment has to be made when treating the Guru Granth Sahib Ji on computer rather than in their usual book form because of the situation. You should treat Guru Ji with as much respect as you can from your own goodwill, and love- whether rules are laid out or not. Upon your computer, you should treat them with as much respect as u can! So, yes, take your shoes off, always cover your head when reading Guru Ji or listening to Gurbani, make sure u r clean and not consuming food/drinking at the same time. Also since desktop computers are designed for one 2 use whilst sitting in a chair, it may be harder to sit cross-legged or on the floor, hence I would presume Guru Sahib Ji would understand that you are doing this out of situation not due to disrespect. Sorry, am not 100% sure on your vaak question, because I dont have Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj at home! Hope that this has helped you in someway. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  14. There has been a lot of discussion about the RaagMala on this forum, so if you do a search you'l probly be able to get all the info you want. Additionally there was a Damdami Taksal article on the RaagMala which was excellent but I lost it when my hard drive died, maybe some other Sevadaars of this forum maybe able to help you with that. But here ive just given a basic, and breif explanation to ur question, u can expand on this by searching the forum and readin the article i mentioned if u get hold of it. It is about Raags in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The Guru Granth Sahib Jis writing are poetic, and almost all of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is written in Raags. To sing Guru Ji's hymns to the actual raag they were written to makes the feelings of the shabad come across to us better. And when Gurbani was first written by Guru Sahibs I would think it was highly important to be played to Raags. Hence the reason why Guru Arjun Dev Ji compiled RaagMala, it illustrates the importance and helps preserve the importance of Raags as ages commence, such as in todays world. I remember reading the RaagMala is found in the Kirtarpuri Bir, hence I belive Guru Arjun Dev Ji must have included it Some people debate it is not Gurbani, I am not going to get into that, this is my personal view. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
  15. An Amritdhari Sikh is one who follows what was laid out by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699 when they created the Panth Khalsa. Ancient Brahmins treated men and women unequally, different religions unequally, different castes unequally, different materials unequally, etc, etc. Guru JI told his Khalsa to be good, honest people and to treat everyone equally. Wearing Kirpans and keeping beards is not an empty ritual, their significance can be readily found anywhere. Just because you dont understand them, doesnt mean a Sikh who has them is narrow minded. Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the Khalsa in his own form, and criticizing an Amritdhari Singh who genuinely follows what Guru Sahib Ji laid out is wrong. I humbly suggest that you read through Sikh History, Sikh Teachings, and then the Rehat Maryada before making a comment such as "The AmritDhari Sikhs are more narrower than Brahmins of ancient India." 16. The reason to why the Guruship was kept within the family from the third Guru onwards: Daughter of Guru Amar Das Ji, Bibi Bhani would do much seva of Guru Amar Das. One night as Guru Ji was absorbed in deep meditation, she noticed that a part of one leg of his couch was broken off. She got scared that Guru Ji might get disturbed beccause of this broken leg, so Bibi ji put her hand under the broken leg to keep the couch level. Guru Ji awoke from meditation and saw the torture endured by her. Guru Ji was much pleased and invited her to ask a favour. Her request was that the Guruship should remain in the family. Guru jis reply to this was, "Thine offspring shall be worshipped by the world. From the offspring of thy womb shall be born a universal saviour; but thou has damned the clear flowing stream of Guruship, and consequently great trouble and annoyance shall result".
  17. Sukhsingh i dont know where exactly from within the Dasam Granth Ji the quote is from, I got it from a BOSS (British Organisation of Sikh Societies) poster, and have also heard a very knowledged Giani mention it during katha. I agree sexy_singh that it does cut both ways, that people who do wear the 5 K's can neglect the messages of ours Guru Jis. I know many people who do this, and am saddened by it. I just think its more likely somebody who wears the 5 Ks is likely to follow these messages. It is true though that all messages of the Gurus should be followed. Its not easy to do this, especially in todays world, but we should always try our best. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Gurjit Singh
  18. I think Jassa means this quote in some of his above posts: "This is my commandment to you my Sikhs, if you do not keep your hair as well as your arms (weapons), do not appear in my presence" Siri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Dasam Granth If a Sikh cannot follow Guru Jis message of wearing the 5 K's, what chance do they have following Guru Ji's messages of being a good person? It is much easier to wear the 5 K's, than to mentally disicpline yourself and align yourself with Guru Jis message. Hence those that do not have enough love and faith in Guru Ji's simple message to even bother wearing the 5 K's, i wander how much these people are actually going to follow the other messages Guru Ji. These are my opinions devised from my own experiences, am not participating in any arguments. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Gurjit Singh
  19. How long ago was this? When u saw them clean shaven? I saw them last year and they werent clean shaven
  20. The current Sant at this place is Sant Bhagwan Das, i think!! Sant Ji stayed at a friends house for 2 weeks when they came to the UK last year. When i went there they had a photo of Sant Delal Singh Ji to which everyone was doing matha take, and then they played a DVD of Sant Delal Singh ji... folllowing this I thought Sant Bhagwan Das would do katha in person, but 4 some reason they showed him on a DVD as well. He only came at the end for a few minutes. I asked my mate if i could get a DVD of Sant Delal Singh Ji and they said no, they dont give out these DVDs. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
  21. In reponse to one of the earlier posts in this.... The SGPC wasnt born out of nothing, it was in my view born out of the Singh Sabha movement which had earlier helped Sikhism in a big way. Plus it worked to take control of Gurdwaras many of which were having activites done within them which were non-Sikh. When I say non-Sikh I mean against the teachings of our Guru's. I have read many comments made against the SGPC and Singh Sabha movement over the internet. I think this is wrong. For those that don't know... the Singh Sabha movement massively aided in reviving Sikhism with Waheguru Ji's kirpa, when people were turning to Christianity, Arya Samaj, slipping back into Hinduism, etc, due to their lack of understanding & knowledge of Sikhism. The Singh Sabha movement done loads to make people aware of the beliefs of Sikhism in many ways. The British had predicted that Sikhism as a religion would eventually become extinct, as in one of their census only 700,000 people classified themselves as Sikh after the fall of the Sikh Empire. It was due to the Singh Sabha movement, with Waheguru Ji's kirpa, this number was increased, and today there are more than 20 million people who consider themselves Sikhs. Also great Sikhs such as Baba Atter Singh Ji (Mastuana Wale) helped revive the way of Sikhism. Baba Ji baptized over a Million people into the Khalsa during their lifetime... now thats amazing! So please could people in future refrain from comments such as "the SGPC was born outta nothing and will return to nothing", and any comments against the Singh Sabha movement. I didnt mean any offence, or anything to anyone and if I have made any mistakes please forgive me. Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
  22. I was just wandering whether someone could provide with some info about Bhai Nand Lal Ji- i kno very little about them. Also, where can I get hold of their writings, either in Panjabi or English? Thanks! Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
  23. Maybe Orchids wrote that, cos Jesus said that the only way to God is via him, which basically means u cant get to God unless your a Christian.
  24. The segregation within Sikhism because of these jaats is very wrong. How can someone call themselves a Sikh if they belive in this, this is more of a Hindu belief. Our Guru Ji's taught us against this. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was asked by some high caste Hindus to give them different amrit from normal amrit, but Guru Ji obviously said no. Could someone provide me with a source where I can read about Jassa Singh Ramgharia Ji, because I only know about him in a general way.
