  1. I knew that was the reason!!!! Trust me there are many awesome great Amritdhari guys :). I married a Singh from Srinagar Kashmir and he is missionary college trained. We are both Amritdhari. He was before I met him and we took it together when we married at the same historical gurdwara. He respects me as his equal (not inferior) and does not expect me to serve him or be his subordinate or his families new maid, as can happen in *some* Punjabi families. He follows Gurbani on marriage and equality. Trust me when I say you might have less to choose from while looking but you will end up with a higher quality husband! As for your hair it's easy to keep it especially if you learn to tie a dastar. It will always be protected and covered.
  2. Guest Ji it's already been decided on by panthic decision when Sikh Rehet Maryada was created. What it will take is for people to follow it. Intoxicants have been already banned. So have interfaith marriages by anand karaj. There is no agreeing or disagreeing on it. Either someone follows Rehet or not. We can force anyone to. Meat that is killed the Muslim way is also banned. Some personally disagree and eat no meat at all. This is ok because it doesn't go against panthic Rehet Maryada. Jasjot Ji I like the idea of coming up with a separate ceremony for interfaith that way we don't alienate people and still allow them to be married in gurdwara while not doing the lavans. Someone should suggest this through SGPC / Akal Takht!! Then no rules would be broken! as I was just married in September I can vouch that india is very much following Akal Takht rule on marriages! I had to change my name to Kaur BEFORE being married!!
  3. ^^^ hahaha second pic just above... wondering is he having a boy or girl?? LOL
  4. One reason I have heard parents not allow their daughters to is that some sampardas disallow any jewellery, or makeup at all after Amrit. Your Dad might be scared you will have harder time to find a husband. (trust me you can! I am turban wearing, no makeup though I do wear a necklace once in awhile or my gold bangles and I found an Amritdhari man who is sweetest in the world!) Also if you still live in their house, there are other implications like not sharing food with your family if they are not Amritdhari as well, or if your parents have alcohol in the house. Just have conversation with him when he is at home and tell him the reasons why you want this. Maybe through soft words you can win your parents to the idea and maybe they will take it too someday because of your example!
  5. Lack of physical activity doesn't aim fat at just the gut. They would be large all over not just their stomachs. The fact that their bellies stick out like pregnant women but rest of their body seems not as proportionately fat, it looks more like beer guts / beer bellies.
  6. Yikes! THOSE HAVE to be BEER GUTS in the photo!
  7. It's kind of difficult to be between us when I have blocked him. I can't see anything he posts unless someone else quotes him.
  8. @KAuR P A good way to start with nitnem is listen by MP3. Then even if you are distracted you are still listening to it being recited. There is no excuse because even someone who is busy can listen to it. When I took amrit, the words used were, "recite or listen to recitation of..." MP3 just makes it much easier. You can of course follow along in your nitnem gutka and recite along with it. I specifically asked before if it was bad to listen WHILE doing something else, for example if you already have to get up extremely early for work etc. And Panj Pyaras said that as long as you are listening or reciting it, it doesn't matter where you are of what position you are in, or what you are doing. The key is just doing it. So if you happen to be a security guard or something (just as an example... no thats not what I do for career haha) you can listen to the MP3 nitnem at your desk or something and it's ok. Waheguru Ji knows your intent and knows its sometimes difficult in modern world with careers like shiftwork etc. As for rehets, make sure you know where you are taking Amrit, and what the implications are for you as a female, as there are more than one Rehet Maryada and some sampardas place extra restrictions and limitations on Bibis that the males don't have. (for example, seeing husband as God, exclusion from certain seva etc) while the Panthic Rehet Maryada (Sikh Rehet Maryada) treats male and female the same as far as rights in Sikhi.
  9. I actually had not even realized chatanga had started in again as I have blocked him. btw I actually took your comment as a compliment, though I do not have a problem with anyone defending anyone as thats what we are all supposed to do as Sikhs. (male or female). But in this case, guest ji I don't know who you are, but trying to reason with someone who can't understand reason is futile. Guru Nanak Dev Ji said: ਮੂਰਖੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਲੁਝੀਐ ॥੧੯॥: Moorkhai naal na lujheeai ||19||: Don’t argue with a fool ||19|| (sggs 473) btw I am on the management committee for Maritime Sikh Society, if there was a wedding coming up that was interfaith, I would know about it. It's not us...
  10. Not saying I agree either way personally but here is that hukamnama...
  11. Hey don't bring me into this! As for western feminism, I am against putting men down too! The ONLY thing I want to see is equal OPPORTUNITY in regards to Sikhi for both Singhs and Kaurs! The only things I am against are seeing women as 'subordinates' to men and putting restrictions on Kaurs that Singhs do not have with regards to seva. I would be happy if only two things would happen: 1. Singhs and Kaurs have equal opportunity and rights to do ALL SEVA. In other words, gender should NOT come into seva at all, rather only their merit should. This is according to Panthic Rehet Maryada! This has nothing to do with western feminism. It's humanism. It's seeing the Divine Light equally in ALL. This is in Gurbani!!!! Treating every Sikh the same. Kaurs are not somehow 'less' Amritdhari than are Singhs. In the same light I hate seeing men I know treated badly too especially with divorces etc. But just because some mem are treated badly in divorces etc in the West, doesn't mean women should be kept from doing seva in Sikhi just for being female!! Two wrongs don't make a right! Point blank, if a Singh can do seva, a Kaur can do it too. 2. Stop this idea that wives are subordinate to their husbands. Gurbani teaches that husband and wife are equal. Cultural influence *while acknowledged and practiced IF the parties choose to do so* is not actually part of Sikhi. In Sikhi, husband and wife are equal and are ONE. There is no wives must be obedient thing, while the husbands get to dictate and control. There is no wives must see husbands as God. At least not in the religion... So why try and teach it as part of Sikhi? Just acknowledge that SOME Sikhs are ok living like that as per their cultural upbringing. Others are not. But it's definitely NOT part of the religion itself. So in summary the only things that P*SS me off are women being put into a subordinate role as if we are supposed to be under male control / authority. We are human beings with same rights as you. ---- As for interfaith marriages, just as a note: I had to change my name PRIOR to getting married in India! As per that hukamnama from 2007. I didn't have to make any sort of statement that I would follow Sikhi, because of my story in the news etc everyone knew I was following it already. But they DO enforce this in India. At least in Gurdwaras following Sikh Rehet Maryada, and who follow Akal Takht. As I mentioned before it was a Historical Gurdwara (Chatti Patshahi) in Srinagar. It's not run by DDT or anything. Maybe DDT since they don't follow Akal Takht don't follow that rule about interfaith marriages... I don't know.
  12. There is a much cheaper option for women which is also good for the environment and can easily be produced so that every woman and girl in India would have one at virtually pennies per person!!! Instead of disposable pads which produce tons of waste, Instead of women dealing with having bloody soaked pads against their skin which leads to bacteria growth (and men thinking and calling women 'unclean') Instead of having something feeling like diapers No chance of infection etc at all because the blood has not yet come in contact with anything outside the body. One of these will last a woman several years, costs almost nothing to mould from medical grade silicone, creates NO environmental waste, is easy to use, does not leak, contains everything inside until it's removed to empty, can be rinsed, disinfected and reinserted easily, can be worn 12 hours continuously and gets rid of any need for external products! The cost per item can be literally less than 1.00 USD maybe even less in huge runs. Every girl in India could be given one easily! Obviously that man empathized with what his wife had to deal with (and all women in India) and we need MORE men like him!!!! Maybe someone should give him the idea of producing these in India... This is the miracle item! It resides completely internally until its removed and any fluid remains completely inside the cup. It can't physically leak through the cup! Its impossible! (wearing these, nobody should have any issue with women doing seva either!)
  13. It's hard to hear from the above recording... but her voice sounds really great! Just the recording itself is hard to hear.... but yes from what I hear I like her already :)
  14. Did you read the article posted above?? For me the history is a bit confusing... But it seems to suggest that the CURRENT Damdami Taksal is NOT the samparda that was called taksal from Guru Ji's time. It suggests they usurped the title even though they don't have direct lineage back to the original and even though the same group ( chowk mheta?? ) How they never even called themselves ddt till only recent history...By the way, It also suggests heavy Brahmin influence by Giani Gurbachan Singh Bhinder who was educated in Udassi and Nirmala backgrounds...
  15. So, what the article is saying is that even though there may have been a Taksal established in time of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the CURRENT Jatha who calls themselves Damdami Taksal, is not actually the direct lineage of the original? Then why do they say so?? Meaning the original Taksalis might have different thoughts and RM? I did find out there are two distinct different groups right now calling themselves Damdami Taksal... and even between them there are differences in practice and RM. So is either one the 'real' ones with direct lineage? If so which one??
  16. Really? Are you sure physical is more important than mind? Also on a different note... are two exact copies of the same thing, in fact one thing or are they several things? Let's say they did have all ten saroops separate and each in their own space, are they really ten 'different' things? Or ten copies of ONE thing? I agree that SGGSJ always should have respect, but in case like this are they really different Gurus? Or are they all the SAME Guru?? In any case....I don't think they really meant disrespect....
  17. Anyway back to the OP. Any time we have seen in history an entire country based on religion, it always seems to breed extremism and not in a good way. And evidence already exists of extremist and militant views surrounding Khalistan. and anyway before Sikhi could even try to achieve something like this it has to figure out what version of Sikhi would be enforced there... There are so many Rehet Maryadas and even though the panthic one accepted by Akal Takht is Sikh Rehet Maryada, can you see the Nihangs or Taksalis following it? How about AKJ? etc.
  18. I've seen the usage of the word along with tribal...as in Tribal Pendu thinking... so I assumed it meant backward thinking. I didn't know there was a place associated with it.
  19. Making a country based on religion opens up that area to become extremist in its ideology too... Just look at Muslim nations with sharia law.
  20. If Khalistan ever were to become reality, which version of Sikhi would be imposed on everyone?
  21. Just remember the end result for ALL is the same... and its only by his grace that we get there. But in the end ALL of us will go home. No matter how many times we come back here, or what paths we take in mean time. Eventually ALL go home to ONEness. In fact, from point of view of Waheguru, time itself is irrelevant. Looking at it that way we already ARE home, we just don't realize it. The clues are all around us, in science, in our dreams, in our intuition... don't ever lose faith. Btw this concept applies to ALL because there really is only ONE to which ALL are part of.
  22. Pls dont say you think like some of those on SPN, atheist version of Sikhi where this world is it?? I am not afraid of death... because lets face it, if the atheists are right, then what is there to fear? Once we go unconscious, we won't be 'conscious' of what happened or our state. If the atheists are wrong, then we realize our physical bodies were only transient and that our consciousness is what's real. It's win win all the way. I do not fear death, though the process of dying is a different story as we very much do process pain that the body feels. But thanks to modern science we have ways to deal with that too or at least make it less painful. I am completely convinced that the times I had OBEs they were not dreams or just hallucinations etc. Though I don't believe they are the culmination of everything we can possibly know, but they do give a perspective that lets you know, YOU WILL exist beyond the physical, in a very real and conscious way! Subjective evidence of MANY people who have had near death experiences also give us a glimpse of this. Same with people (children especially) who remember past lives. There is much evidence to be found for those who look. Then of course, the fact that quantum physics shows us that even matter itself is not 'real' in the sense we think it is. It's not SOLID. It's actually just energy vibrating slow enough to manifest in a way that we experience it as solid. But even the matter that makes up our bodies is part of this! Including our brains! So, if reality is not solid, and our brains are just energy vibrating at a slow rate of vibration, and all matter is affected by conscious thought / conscious observers (google the double slit experiment and the follow on experiments) then what exactly is our consciousness? It can't be merely an emergent property. Consciousness / Conscious awareness just IS. THAT is the basis of reality. That's what is real.
  23. When one realizes they are the divine within (and not the physical body) death becomes irrelevant.
