  1. All 5 prayers consist of a certain number of units called "Rakahs". All the prayers have a certain number of rakahs to them. The obligatory number of rakahs for each prayer is as follows: 1) Fajr (dawn prayer) - 2 rakahs 2) Zuhr (Noon prayer) - 4 rakahs 3) Asr (afternoon prayer) - 4 rakahs 4) Maghrib (just before sunset prayer) - 3 rakahs 5) Isha (Night prayer) - 4 rakahs This link give the english to the prayers and how they are performed: http://www.islam-usa.com/pray7.html Praying 5 times a day in this ritual prayer is supposed to help keep ones mind on God and to remind that He is always present. It is written that Salaat (5 times ritual prayer) is meant to keep us away from shameful acts while zikr (simran) is supposed to build love for God in our hearts.
  2. Amazing.. and here I was thinking that kids were the meanest creatures on the planet
  3. I honestly believe that religious warriors either need to be saints themselves or be guided by saints because in war it is too easy to give into ones anger and fear and hatred. For me Hazrat Ali is a good example of a Warrior Saint. Once Ali, the son-in-law of the Prophet, was fighting on the battlefield with one of the most powerful champions of the enemy. He finally managed to strike the warrior's sword from his hand. As he raised his sword to take the enemy's life, the man spat in his Ali's face. Ali stopped and sheathed his sword. His enemy said "I don't understand. You were about to kill me, and after I spit at you, you spare my life? Ali replied: "I was going to take your life in battling for God's sake, but when you spat at me, it angered me. Had I killed you then, I would have been a murderer, for I would have struck in anger. I will fight for God, but I will not murder for my ego."
  4. I think the Gurus should be kept in mind the whole time. Would the Gurus have approved their Sikhs of saying things like "INDIRA KUTHEE... MAARO JUTHI" while other Sikhs were repeating "Satnam Sri WaheGuru"? The Gurus are the perfection of the Sikh faith and I think Sikhs should use them as an example on how to live their life. If Bindrawale’s dying words were “Tell Indira she is a bitch†(Indira kuthi di dhi hai) do you think these would be the dying words of Guru Gobind Singh Ji also or do you think his last words would have been something different? Im speaking from a muslim mindset here. Some of us muslims may have a lot of love and respect for our saints like Baba Farid Ji but even Baba Farid Ji looked to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as an example to follow. For us our Prophet is the perfection of our faith so we look to him as an example. Christians should look to Christ and Sikhs should look to their Gurus. If we all did this I think the world might be a better place than it is now.
  5. LOL Harry! I forgot about Mr "Oh Yes"... Im sure he would love to give the martial stare to them. Anyway, I think that is awesome that these girls got into Sikhi. A lot of hispanic people are converting to Islam also. I know when Indians first came to America many of them married Mexican women because they were not allowed to bring Indian women over and were not allowed to marry white women. Does anyone know of any articles or photographs of these early Indian/Mexican couples? Im sure many of these Indians were Sikhs and Punjabis.
  6. I think anyone who intentionally targets civilians to get at their government is a terrorist whether this person is a Sikh or Muslim or whatever. It is the dark nature of man that comes up with excuses for targeting civilians and this dark nature of man is soaked in anger, hatred, pride and ignorence. Many muslims make up excuses for suicide bombers and their targeting of civilian Israelis. They say that because every Israeli must serve one year in the military there are no real civilians and everyone becomes a legitimate target. So they use this to justify the blowing up of israelis riding the bus or standing in line at a pizza shop. Being a muslim myself I have heard many "uncles", born muslims and even a couple of convert muslims use this as an excuse to justify the methods of suicide bombers. What Israel is doing to Palestinians isnt right either but 2 wrongs never make a right. With that being said I would say that the biggest terrorist act was done by America with the biggest weapon of mass destruction against Japan. A nuclear bomb is meant to target civilians and is the greatest terrorist weapon in the world. A true freedom fighter should never be a terrorist. Terrorists will call themselves freedom fighters because they believe the end justifies the means. A true man or woman of religion who is in touch with his or her true spiritual core would never be a terrorist while being a freedom fighter. Religious warriors need to be saints or be led by saints. If they are not there is a danger that they will be lead by the whisperings of the devil or by their own ego and lower self.
  7. The 70s and 80s were a difficult time for those of us who lived in England. But at the same time when I think back it always brings back fond memories and in a way Im glad I went through the hardships of racism because it ends up making you a stronger person. The first 10-11 years of my life were spent on St Johns Rd in “puraana†Southall. I remember the Southall riots well. We moved to Jallandher 1983 and moved back to England in 84 after the Golden Temple incident. We moved to Greenford which was quite a horrible place (Golf Links Estates… why to the biggest dumps always have the poshest name!?!?). That place was full of NF and we experienced hardcore racism there. Still went to my old school in Norwood Green though (Wolf Fields Middle School). Moved to Wolverhampton in 85 to Whitmore Reans which was another pretty desi area. Less racism there. We had a “Auntie dhi shop†across the street where we used to take our spending money to buy monster munch crisps and choc-dips.
  8. OMG this brings back some memories. Especially the auntie in the corner shop! I remember the big purses and the kottees that all bibis wore. Ahh Southall... I miss my old pind in some ways. By the way, this guy is stylin! --->
  9. I bet this widened the eyes of some young Singhs out here
  10. Its true that many muslims believe that drawing a physical realistic representation of a person or animal is considered by a lot of muslims to be against Islam. Shia muslims dont seem to think so though from what I have seen. Some take this really far and say that photographs are against Islam too. I dont know about becoming a designer for games.. Im actually trying to not spend so much time on the computer and I am working on making money without being on the computer so much. As much as I love art and design I would rather be in a pit of 300 crocodiles catching them with a rope and a stick or taking blood samples from Komodo dragons in Indonesia. I do crazy things like that to keep my sanity. Plus I would like to get into traditional art with real paints and pencils again... just have to find the time. Hey nice work. Cant wait to see the rest of your work. Be sure to post a link up to your art site once you have it done
  11. Akali Singh it is my career... Im a graphic designer. Thanks guys
  12. photo I took of "drawrof" and made it look old: Something I did with colouring pencils back in 1993 when I was just a young lad
  13. Ill have a xtra large triple triple with a toffee glazed donut please. Timmy walay babayo... altho I cannot be there with you in person I am there in spirit Just place my order on the table by the empty chair as an offering haha
  14. Should have had me there! I would have slapped him up and I am muslim! Saala neech bandha. I dont think you would need additional security at a gurdwara. The reason you wear the kirpan is to remind yourself to defend you faith and defend the oppressed so it would be a religious duty to defend your faith against people like this young man. Defending ones faith or using this as an excuse to beat the snot out of someone are 2 different things though. If the first blow is to defend your faith is the second blow for this also... or is the intention for the second blow coming from anger or ego? I suppose that is between that person and God.
  15. Is it a childish argument? I suppose Baba Bulleh Shah was being childish also when he said "If you get to God by bathing (refering to the Ganges) then fish and frogs would become God realised. If you get to God by roaming in the jungle then cows and calfs would be God realised".

I see you are in NJ. Im sure you can find a way of getting into it there. Just google search it. I kow in America it works a little different and you have to become an apprentice of a falconer I believe to get a license.

In this zoo tigers are only handled for the first year of their life. When they come close to sexual maturity they can become unpredictable and will try and test you or become territorial or confrontational. The training works on a reward and punishment basis. Claws and teeth are a problem at this age too and you do end up getting scratched and bit from time to time. One technique of stopping an animal from biting is that when it first does that u always have some tabasco sauce on your hand and you put that near their nose or on their lips. This way they know that if they bite they will get something unpleasant coming their way. The only big cat that can be safely worked with into adulthood is the cheetah. Emperor Akbar had cheetahs that he used for hunting like people use dogs. Actually he was the first person to breed cheetahs in captivity.

  20. I took an intro to falconry course a couple of years ago and this summer I am going on a week training in July to learn falconry in depth at a centre north of Toronto. Anyone else interested? It is from Monday to Friday from 9 to 5 and costs $600. Will be working with and training harris hawks and red tailed hawks. They also help you get your falconry license after you complete the course. If you want to buy a hawk or falcom or eagle they sell them at this place too. its a breeding centre. Check out their website: www.falconrycentre.com A couple of pics from the weekend course I took 2 years back:
