  1. Hi People, just wanted to know if anyone can tell me how Aarthi came about? Is it Baani? Why do we do it? Should we be doing it? I noticed that some Gurudware do it and some dont, and some people disagree with the throwing of flowers on the Guru Granth Sahib & that thing they do with the candles on the tray when they wave it about infront of Guru Ji, i'm a bit confused over this, someone please explain...
  2. BAD is BAD no matter how you look at it, what you need to look at is the act of taking Guru Granth Sahib Ji to a hotel which has the same goings on as a standard panjabi household, the period of time here is really irrelevant, keeping Guru Granth Sahib Ji for a cummulative amount of time is no different from bringing it to a hotel a number of times, they are as bad as each other in my eyes, both need to be stopped.
  3. definately, it is just as bad, the pande and glasses they use to serve langar at home has at one point been used to serve meat and have had alcohol in them. Whilst the Guru Granth Sahib Ji is being recited in the living room, in the kitchen cupboards you'll find bacardi bottles and in the other rooms you dont know what you'll find. Guru Granth Sahib belongs in a pure house this is the reason we have Gurudware, if people want to do Akhand Paats, it is here they should be done.
  4. I think, when your in the gurudwara, doing ardas in the presence of sri guru granth sahib ji and sadh sangat, one should stand up, doing ardas sitting or lying down wouldnt be as respectful in this situation. We should follow the Giani Ji’s movements here as a show of respect and ‘Nimrata.’ This situation is similar to when people hold one minute silence, they get up and take out time to remember, i think by getting up shows your making an effort to remember and i think its in a Sikhs nature to be as humble as possible. I came across the following lines from Guru Granth Sahib Ji: P1152 With my palms pressed together, I offer this ardas. du-ay kar jor kara-o ardaas. p55 In the Court of the True One, you shall sit in truthful ardas. saachee dargeh bais-ee bhagat sachee ardaas P994 Stand and offer your ardas, to the One who cannot be moved by force. jis naal jor na chal-ee khalay keechai ardaas. I dont know if the third ones translated properly, but if it is i guess it says it all really.
  5. This may sound like a silly question, but when you do your ardas within the comfort of your own home, do you have to stand up and read or listen to it as you would do when your in the gurudwara or is sitting down and doing it acceptable?
  6. I think its pretty simple, tying your dari up should only be done when necessary, for example if your line of work requires you too for health and safety or when your doing something and it could get in the way, in these situations you have to protect it, especially if its quite long. Sometimes this can't be helped, and Guru Ji would understand this. However, when not necessary it should be left down because tying your dari up gives it the effect that its been cut, leaving it free flowing shows you are proud what Guru Ji has given you. Its also a psychological challenge to everyday people to accept you for what you really look like rather than having to tie it up to fit into society because your afraid of what they might think, leaving it open shows your strong in character. We should aim to look like how Guru Gobind Singh Ji wanted us to look like when he created the Panj Pyare. When he gave us our identity Fixo wasn't one of them. Why would you want to tie it up anyway? Personally I think Singhs look much better leaving their dari's open than tied up, they look more warrior and lion like, when tied up they look like them little cute ceaser dogs off the advert. No offence to those who tie it up.
  7. They say he died in Paris by drinking too much alcohol, some Singhs have told me that he was poisoned by the British government as he wanted to return home to Panjab to become Maharaja of his people once again.
  8. I agree, there is no such thing as Sikh extremists, sorry Bruce Lun but you are wrong.
  9. No thanks. If Guru Ji created Holla Mohalla because he thought Holli was pointless, what do you think he would say about Bhangra dancing, i'd rather Naam Jap instead.
  10. I'm not comparing the people together nor saying they are only the same level but only their act and intent.
  11. Its all about Chips with Thurka Beans. Yumm.
  12. My point is that Bhangra has no relevance with Sikhi and the kids could be doing something far more constructive with their time at a camp, bhangra you could do anywhere at any time and dont need to go to a camp to learn it. However, its not everyday your with such a large chardi kalla sangat, like the people at the camp, and that should be taken advantage of as much as possible. If their looking for something fun to do for the kids, there are many other activities they could be doing. Also, why would you want to be dancing and listening to bhangra, which promotes everything sikhi is against, especially at a sikh camp, when you could be listening to kirtan and what guru ji gave you instead....
  13. I think hype can be a good thing, can you imagine the amount of hype there was in Anandpur when Guru Gobind Singh Ji first initiated Amrit and created the Khalsa. On that day people must have came from all types of backgrounds and taken their Amrit, most likely without preparing themselves for it. In comparison with what Baba Ranjit Singh is doing is exactly the same, whether people take it out of hype or have prepared themselves for it is exactly the same in my eyes, in both situations the individual has become inspired in some way to become amrit dari, one step towards guru ji and he'll take a 1000 towards you.
  14. great camp, disgaree with the bhangra part though, not necessary.
  15. Alot of people took amrit in the same way after hearing bindhranwale ji's katha, would you say they just took it in hype also?
  16. Good Message, but Guru Nanak is already here and always has been, its just that people dont try to find him.
  17. If the whole album is as good as his first track, then yeah please upload it.
  18. by the way how do you know he wasnt n30 singh?
